If you want full x16 support for your graphics card, do not install the m.2 where he installed it. This lowers top pcie slot to x8. The second m.2 slot is connected to the cpu instead of the chipset so there is no reason not to use that slot

@@Josey2crazy4u yes you should keep the first pcie 5 nvme slot open. When pcie gen 5 nvme drives come out it would make more sense to use that first slot. You would be giving up x16 support though for your graphics card which shouldn’t be a huge deal but I prefer to have the full bandwidth for my graphics card since gpu speed is more important to me than ssd speed

When I say don’t use the top pcie nvme slot I mean the first m.2 slot btw, not the actual x16 slot. Definitely wanna use the x16 slot for your graphics card

Except when you populate all 4 RAM slots and turn on XMP. When you do that, you'll get BSODs. Not sure if its a BIOS quirk or a limitation of the CPU or chipset. I tried several DDR5 kits (G.Skill 6000mhz (4x 16GB), Kingston Fury Beast 5200mhz (4x 16GB), Adata Lancer XPG 5200mhz (4x 16GB)). Same thing happened with each kit - when all 4 RAM slots were populated, turning on XMP1 and XMP2 caused BSODs and crashes. Funnily enough though, when I only populated 2 of the motherboard's RAM slots I was able to run XMP1 and XMP2 without any issues at all. No crashes, no BSODs. Several other Asus Z690 motherboards have been reported to suffer from the same issue. The Apex, the Hero and this Strix-E.

@@0perativeX Hmm, what CPU are you running? Also did you try a mainboard from another manufacturer? I heard that Ryzen for example often limits the speeds when populating all 4 slots because the memory controller can't handle speeds over 3200mhz, but it's been long ago since I have built my PC and things might have changed already (just looked it up, Ryzen 2nd Gen supports speed up to 2133mhz when you have 4 slots populated in single channel) :D got an Asus x470 Prime Pro right now and before that an Asus Strix x370, both never failed on me when tweaking some clocks/voltages/speeds/temps, thats all I can say😅

When I did my build I used the included driver disk to get up and running . After Armory Crate installed the final updates were pretty much automatically installed with the bios update only needing manual install .. Great vid also and awesome setup . I went with an Asus AIO . Wife uses it for casual browsing PC is on easy street .

If you install an nvme drive that isnt pcie 5.0 in the top nvme slot, it forces the top gpu slot to run at x8 mode instead of x16, i'd relocate it to the bottom two.

I was reviewing the specs on Asus's website, since the z790 is coming out in a week or so. You mention PCIE Gen 5 speeds for all 5 m.2 slots and I could be wrong but I don't think that's correct. Not that many people probably have gen 5 .2's x5 yet but this is what the specs list on their website. 3 x M.2 Slots Onboard 1 x M.2 2242-22110 (PCIe5.0 x4) 1 x M.2 2242-22110 (PCIe4.0 x4) 1 x M.2 2242-2280 (PCIe 4.0 x4 & SATA) 2 x M.2 Slots on ROG Hyper M.2 Card 2 x M.2 2242-22110 (PCIe4.0 x4) I'm not too concerned with pcie4 for all of those m.2's as I probably won't buy more than 1 m.2 but they also note that if you have a gen 5 m.2 in that first port with the heatsink, that your PCIE 5.0 x16 slot is limited to x8. Should I not use that pcie slot for my GPU then?

I enabled the AI Overclocking on my MB and it caused major problems. Mostly when I trained neural networks using the GPU I constantly got blue screen with CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIME_ERROR. Once I disabled it and switched it back to normal I got correct functioning, at least for now. I can't be sure 100% that this was the cause for it but i am like 95% sure of that. Have you heard about this problem? Anyway great video, TY.

@@TheProvokedPrawn Thanks, I have a kraken Z73 aio and I'm using 10 lian LI SL120 fans. Also have an Evga 3080ti ftw3 gpu. I ordered a deciflex filter kit aa well and even found a seller on Etsy who 3d prints a shroud for the hdd cage that holds 2 60mm fans to help keep the drives cool.

I still use disc, nothing wrong with using disc. They last longer than storage drives as long as you never badly scratch them. I have CD disc from way back in 2002 that still work like new. lol now find me a Storage drive that still works that good from 2002 that was used in 2002 up to this point. Bet it doesn't work, and if it does work it's probably painfully slow compared to when it was brand new while CD disc will always run like new no matter how old they are as long as you take care of them. Plus I'm not a fan of digital only drives, that's why I own a PS5 Disc version and not a digital one.

Hello, you skipped explaining how to connect the front panel connector on this. The problem I have with this motherboard is the power switch and reset switch don't list what is positive or negative. It just says ground and power button. How do you install a 2 pin connector on to the power switch and reset when positive and negative are not listed on the motherbaord

Yeah my second stick of ram is not working. Read the directions and put them in the correct slots but every time my pc fails to post with both sticks in. And I have used both sticks individually so they work. Just not with both.

You can mount the cooler in the proper way if you remove the vrm plastic cover. Unfortunately in this way you'll remove also rgb ROG led....

He didn't show Windows installation. I'll be building with same MOBO and multiple SSD's, the fastest in that first M.2 port. I will want to ensure that Windows offers that first port (the PCIe gen 5) for installation, but it's only gonna say "disk 0", "disk 1", etc. How do I check for sure that that is the SSD in that first M.2 port?

Have to RMA this board. First, it made my second M.2 disappear and now the Q-LED’s aren’t lighting up at all (clearly the board isn’t taking on power anymore) I’m not sure why or how this happened, but it died after less that 2 months of use. I can’t find anything online about the LED’s not lighting up either which is odd. I checked the cables repeatedly and use a 1000W 80+ Platinum EVGA PSU.

1st Question. Would the 4090 make more sense to be on the top gpu slot or bottom slot (g5); since I plan to take full advantage of nvme 5.0 gen when the right time persists. 2nd Question. When I do install the 5.0 nvme on m.2 (slot 1), would it be smart to also use my hyper card, and if so, assemble the hyper card on gpu slot 1 or 3? Long Last Question. I need to transfer my win 11 OS that's on a 4.0 nvme on m.2 (slot 1) Should I transfer it to another m.2 slot (i.e: M.2 slot 2 or 3?), with the same nvme that has WIN11 OS installed? Or, should I wait and clone the WIN 11 to a 2 tb 5.0 nvme on M.2 slot 1?

Am in the middle of building my new setup with this motherboard. You had better look into it first as I've just scratched the surface, but if you install a SSD in the m.2_1 slot, and you install your GPU in the top (first) ("G5") slot. It drops the (g5) spot to x8 instead of x16. Looking through a bunch of forums it doesn't appear to effect gaming much or at all. But if you use your GPU for rendering etc is where you would see your restriction. Also only the bottom (G4) spot supports using 2x m.2's in the Hyper Card. Middle (G3) and top (G5) will only recognize 1 drive not 2 even if 2 installed in the Hyper. (page 1-8 in manual).

Not with this model no. Though I think there are DDR4 compatible versions as well. But the ram is not interchangeable.

I have a extremely similar build I9 12900k Z690-e Corsair vengeance rgb 64gb ddr5 5200mhz Lian li 360 radiator Rm1000x psu With 9 lian sl fans I still have seen my cpu spike to 66C sometimes dont have a gpu yet if that makes the difference. Not sure whats going on also as well i cant get L connect 3 to work either if u have any tips, videos or anything would appreciate the help. I did try under volt as well

66c is not very hot really. Unless you're doing nothing at all? You can hit the high 90s with that CPU.

@@TheProvokedPrawn typically I would agree but this seems to be the only z690 mobo that had a x5 drive on the actual motherboard without an add in card. At least in the asus stack. For some reason this was the only one I read about that this happens to. Doesn't happen to the A, F, hero, maximus, etc. Thanks for the reply!!

It happened to me as well so don’t worry. Just remove your ssd drive and everything it will work as it should. I couldn’t managed to find a fix for this even if i set the gen drive to 4 from bios.

Hello! Can I ask you what is your boot time? I have the same motherboard and I have 20 second black screen until BIOS logo appears at every boot. Is this normal? Also I have Kingston FURY 2x 16GB DDR5 6000 Mhz (KF560C40BBK2-32) which is on the supported list and XMP 6000 or XMP 5600 does not work at all, I got BIOS crash, boot loop or Windows crash.

For some reason, this mb is giving me error code “55” and based from Google, it says that it could be a RAM issue. I’ve tried a different set of RAM and installed it properly (yes I hear the click), but still got the same error 55. I checked for any bent pins on the cpu socket, nothing. Looks great! I’m putting the same mobo into. Lian Li O11D Razor. I’m having trouble making an EVGA FTW3 3090 Ultra fit. The chipset heatsink or the PCIe release button riser are getting in the way of allowing the video card to completely seat and lock. Ideas?

It's hard to say without seeing it, but it's your machine and you can jerry-rig it to some extent. I would focus on the release button and the casing around it. If it's just the casing, modify it or remove it

@@kpv123 I got the video card to stay seated...but it needs another 1/2 mm of clearance to really get that clip attached on the rear of the PCI slot. It's unfortunate that video cards are so huge now as it's covering the heat sink for the chipset with it's own memory heat sink...so they're warming each other up needlessly. I have heat issues...working through them now.

@@syrioo yes I also see those random numbers. Anyway, I play a lot of dota 2 which is very light for this pc. I get 230 fps on all high settings and they never drop below 180 no matter how intense the animatioms are. So to test I cap my game to 170fps and after every 5-10 seconds there is going to be a dip to 169 and back to 170 and I can feel a micro stutter at every dip. So Im not sure what can cause this. There’s so many things in a pc and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out whats up
