Did you disable Performance Boost? The hidden option in the Power Plans? You lose 1.3Ghz since it caps the CPU at 3.0Ghz, but you gain substantial heat loss. With Boost on I was hitting 90C in games. Now it’s mid 60-70C range. You can always turn it back on. r/ZephyrusG14 has all kinds of fixes for Temps, black screen, idle power draw, and just making the laptop a beast.

I would luv to buy this laptop but I wanted to know since hot air dissipates on the screen over a long time period wouldn't it ruin the laptop .... I mean the screen would get warm and won't that effect the lifespan of the laptop?
@little_tofu4 жыл бұрын
While it does dissipate hot air towards the screen, it also has 2 vents on either side of the laptop. Also, there's some vents that allows air to escape beneath the screen from the back too. I also never noticed that the screen was alarmingly hot to the touch so I'm not too worried about the longevity. 👍

Having my G14 since May, I can tell you that it has some very serious quality issues and ASUS will not honor the warranties for the device if you happen to have a lemon. A lot of users are complaining that the the CPU fans are very cheap and are known to have winding noises due to faulty bearings. I did not have this issue at first but after a month of use it was a glaring problem that increasingly got worse over time. Also there are a number of driver issues with the device. Several users have simply returned the device for re-stocking due to ASUS failures as this has been reported multiple times on multiple forums. Updates have fixed some issues, but others still remain such as the speakers not working correctly with netflix sites, wifi connectivity issues, and fan controls being stuck at max spin speed even with no CPU or GPU load and temps in the mid 40's (idle temps). I have also noticed a small sputter on processes at times, especially when it starts to get hot. It's typically only half a second but it's definitely noticeable when playing games. Lastly with the CPU fan issue, ASUS refuses to admit its a hardware issue and wants to charge you nearly 300.00 usd to ship it or they try to shove it off to best buy geek squad support which is not available at all since launch of the product. Be aware, there are issues with this laptop and it was rushed

Good review! Thanks for pointing out the obvious about the screen tearing and the response time "issue". Yes its there but you'll only find it by actively looking for it. In normal usage its not noticable. Happy G14 User (4900HS, 1660TI, 1TB) here ;-) P.S.: Its useful to grab the 1 TB version since its running with an Intel m.2 NVME PCIe x4 while the 512 GB is only PCIE x2. Back then I ordered 2 different machines (couldnt made up my mind :P) and on the comparison it was noticable like booting up games such as GTA5 or programs like Sony Vegas with an bigger active project).

Video editing and production value are some of the better I've seen, well above your sub count. I do think your recording could be a little better, as your voice occasionally sounded a bit muffled (could be louder in general, especially next to the music test), and volume was a bit inconsistent between various recording clips. I also think that having a compact suite of games/software to run quick tests on (even like 3 games and 2 professional apps to benchmark on) would be helpful info, along with some temperature readings. I know this stuff can be very time-consuming while you're clearly already spending a lot of time with editing/production, and there are already other channels that have the time and manpower to do things like noise-normalized testing with a host of hardware across different games, but having at least a few numbers to throw around would make this a more valuable resource. Overall I'm really impressed by this review though, and I hope to see more stuff from you.

I’m tied between the g14, the razer blade 15, and the MSI GS65/75/66. Overall, the g14 does the best job of performance and portability, and it looks great, but it doesn’t have a built in webcam and I prefer a larger screen. Battery life is fantastic. The MSI laptops are great; solid performances and good battery life, but I’m not a fan of some of the build quality on them and I don’t have a lot of faith in MSI’s driver updates. The Razer blade is a gorgeous machine, the performance is perfect, it has a webcam, but the battery life is abysmal. If there was a way to upgrade the blade’s battery life to the g14’s standards, I’d get it in a heartbeat. Overall, G14: best battery Blade 15: best performance/build quality MSI GS 65/66/75: compromise

What I believe you didn't cover is the chassis build quality. I come from a 2015 MacBook so I'm accustomed to great chassis stiffness and build quality. I am happy to say that the G14 is, in my perception, no worse. The chassis is very stiff, keyboard deck flex is nonexistent and picking it up with one hand feels as sturdy as a brick. Also, I believe a magnesium chassis for this price point is exceptional, it's something that not even all of it Zephyrus siblings share. The display hinge is a bit wobbly, though, if you keep it in your lap or on a soft surface.

Nice edit and review. Hard work deserves a sub 👌 Seen every single review of this laptop so far and what I find Is that its a game changer. Due to its unavailability in the UK thus far (HD 120hz model), I'm deciding whether to save up for the razer blade 15 advanced 2020 instead (i7 10th gen cpu 8 core 16 threads with 2070 super/2080 super max Q) or to pay an extra £400 on top of the G14 US Price just to import and deliver the Asus G14 lol 2 entirely different machines and specs. But they suit the same target audience. For me it's content creation, aestheticly pleasing to look at without looking too bold or being too heavy and both laptops have the most portable to performance ratio. A decent battery life and future proof for next gen gaming... With good thermals. 2 entirely different perspectives when choosing between these laptops. Pricing being the number 1 factor. Either way I'm sure either of my selections will give me a comfortable computing/gaming lifespan thanks to portability becoming a more viable option for PC gamers and creators alike.

Thank you! I was also contemplating about the Razer, although in the end went for the G14 because the Blade isn’t readily available in my region. I would say until the 10** series laptops released there was no such thing as a "Gaming Laptop", most of what people considered in that group were actually desktop replacements given the fact you could kill someone when thrown and shear size. On that note the Asus G14 is an excellent piece of engineering blowing away anything Apple has achieved since the Apple 2, but obviously doesn't sufferer the affects of being a really bad Apple Product with painfully below average utility for the size and weight.

My spec is: R7-4800HS/16GB/RTX2060MQ/120Hz. That’s annoying! 120Hz is the better choice imo. But I’ve seen that different specs have started to appear at different stores in my region. So fingers crossed that you will be able to get it with 120Hz and 2060 soon! 🤞

hey man, just wondering, is the fan noise too loud to bring to a library to do work? or is it fine
@little_tofu4 жыл бұрын
Not at all, as long as you're not gaming or doing some intensive tasks it's a quiet machine. 👍
@harryw31884 жыл бұрын
littletofu thanks, also do you think this laptop would actually reach 10 hours of battery life while doing work?
@little_tofu4 жыл бұрын
Harry Wilson I haven’t tested it precisely, but from I’ve seen it seems to come close to that 10 hour mark when doing light web browsing. It’s pretty impressive how powerful and efficient that Ryzen CPU is!

First of all great review ! I am planning to get one of these but I read in one review that it gets really hot when playing, did you, or anyone here, please tell me if you experienced any issue with heat ?

Hello! :-> Do you think that a G14 unit with a Ryzen 9 + GTX 1660 Ti would perform nearly as great? Hahaha I'm planning on buying one soon owo thanks in advance, sir!
@little_tofu3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Based on the benchmark comparisons I've seen the 1660 Ti MQ is around 10-15% slower than the 2060 MQ: www.notebookcheck.net/GeForce-GTX-1660-Ti-Max-Q-vs-GeForce-RTX-2060-Max-Q_9832_9631.247598.0.html I would definitely go for the R7/RTX2060MQ combo if that is available, but still the R9/1660Ti is going to be very capable for such a small laptop. =)

Where can we buy the 1049$ model from? I can't seem to find it anywhere...
@nocturnal101ravenous64 жыл бұрын
Best Buy in the US. Europe has a different main vendor, and not all models were available at launch so you may have to wait till supply chains catch up.

Any idea how long this will last? My last gaming laptop was a Lenovo Y50 2014 which struggled in its 3 year. It has shit batteries and weighs a ton
@little_tofu4 жыл бұрын
I think gaming laptops has moved a lot since 2014. So not just the G14 but most laptops you can find on the market these days are much better built and optimised for "gaming". So I think you will have a more enjoyable experience with a gaming laptop from 2020. 👍

@@little_tofu any idea how long they will last, though? Like how many years until it becomes outdated

What model do you suggest for me? G14 or G15? I'm a graphic artist / gamer.
@little_tofu4 жыл бұрын
As I don't have the G15 I can only speak on paper. As the G15 has practically identical specs, I would expect the performance to be quite similar. The G15 does have a higher refresh screen at 240Hz, although based on the specs I'm unsure if it will be able to hit those frames to really take advantage of that higher refresh. If you value build quality, the G14 uses more premium materials such as magnesium alloys whereas the G15 has some plastic panels. I would personally pick the G14 and consider a monitor for working or gaming at home. 👍

Great video So this is the best value laptop I can get for 1500$?
@chillywilly95894 жыл бұрын
I don't think it is the best value. It is a very well rounded laptop, super portable, powerful, and ok for gaming. Also it looks good too!
@little_tofu4 жыл бұрын
I agree it might not be the best value if you’re just looking for straight performance. But I haven’t seen many laptops that looks as attractive as the G14 nor do they cover so many bases so well.
@alfyashraf88184 жыл бұрын
@littletofu could you suggest which laptop is the best below $1500? Thanks in advance.
@little_tofu4 жыл бұрын
Sorry about the late response, completely missed your comment... I think it all depends on what you value. If build quality, battery life, portability is of high importance then the G14 is an excellent choice. (I've seen some models that have R74800HS/GTX1650TI/16GB/512GB/120Hz for a few dollars shy of $1500 after tax) As I haven't tried other laptops, I don't think I can accurately give my opinion. But I recommend taking a look at the MSI GS66 Stealth and Asus ROG G15. 👍

WOW This was one amazing review. I have a question though. As of now I can only find this laptop with an RTX 2060 Max Q online and there's little to no information as to how big a difference it is compared to a normal rtx 2060 or a 2070 max Q. I want this lap top mainly for 3D work. Rendering, simulations animations, etc. Is there anyone who could give me any information on this? thank you in advance!
@little_tofu4 жыл бұрын
Check out this comparison by notebookcheck. They show a bunch of different metrics and benchmarks which could help you decide which is right for you. 👍 bit.ly/3eUBQlo Also, the highest end GPU that the G14 is available with is the 2060 Max Q. So you may need to consider an entirely different laptop if you need a more powerful GPU.
