It's nice sometimes, but in this case it appears that it was simply a lack of testing the simplest things first, he noticed the computer turn on then didn't go straight into plugging a display in to confirm, I mean, I don't see how you could waste 2 hours on this otherwise. It's very easy to overthink what the problem can be.

I’ve done similar repair attempts using a rice bag. Basically just fashion a long piece of fabric or even an old sock and fill it with rice. Tie the end somehow. Then just heat in the microwave for about a minute or so and you have a heating pad. It also works good when you have muscle aches.

The mat is fine the way it is. Some laptops use the quick release pull strips to free the panel from the frame but as we know those do not always work all the time.
@DanielsGameVault2 жыл бұрын
I think disconnecting the internal display connector doesn't necessarily force the graphics chip to output to the VGA/HDMI ports - it probably depends on the interface: if it's a dumb LVDS cable, I doubt the chip even knows there's a display there or not - it just outputs to that connector anyway, even if a display panel "listens" or not. It probably shows up in dev manager as "standard PnP monitor" or something similar, even if the panel is not there. If it's a DisplayPort (eDP ??), then yes - it might actually know if it's physically there or not and default to the external output...
@Adamant_IT2 жыл бұрын
Modern laptops are eDP, or Embedded Display port, so there is communication and hot-plug detection between the display and motherboard. I'm not sure if all laptops actually implement the detection, but theoretically at least it should make a difference. If nothing else, it reduces the chance of Black Screen - where the laptop _is_ outputting to HDMI, but because it's treating the built-in display as primary, you don't actually get a picture at the login screen, making it hard to tell if you have any output or if windows is punking you.

Easily after the first heat and first pry point on the screen you can use adhesive desolvers like 530 sprays or some types of liquids. Just spray on the outside of the plastic card NOT directly to under the panel. And no need to more heat.👌❤️

You said no backlight could be caused by 3 different causes, but actually it is 4. The LVDS cable could be not properly seated in the LCD connector, thus having no backlight, it happens all the time, even if the cable has been properly secured with tape.

I had to remove the vertical screen off my frends apple i-mac to replace the hard drive. I used a couple of old feeler gauges to slide under the glass. The gauges that were used for points or sparkplug gapping. Each gauge set have the rounded end and a selection of thickness. My old paint stripper gun on the very first setting was just hot enough. Never stopping in one place. No damage 😀

I'm no expert but glass is melted and cast into molds so using a hot air gun to remove the glue shouldn't catastrophically affect it. To my delight, you did an excellent job of removing it intact.
