I am currently looking for a new laptop, but anything with decent specs either comes with soldered 16GB of RAM or is unbelievably overpriced. I don't get it in 2024. I want to keep my laptop for many years to come, I've had my last laptop for 8 years. So I won't settle for less than 32GB, unless it has SODIMM slots. I'm talking about 13 and 14 inch laptops.
@cameronbosch12133 ай бұрын
I agree. It's ridiculous, and I'd honestly look at the 2023 Razer Blade 14 with the RTX 4060. It's still on the more expensive side, but it has a full powered RTX 4060, it has two RAM slots, and it is overall great. If it drops below $1800, pick it up!

@MatthewMoniz3 ай бұрын
Ya same story here in Canada. $2600 CAD. The US prices are always so good compared to the rest of the world
Then convert the 2199 into US dollars, and it is even worse. I think the main reason is that Apple is so successful in the US that rivals try to break them with lower and lower prices. I believe the Mac market share is nearly 20% in the US but under 8% in Europe. OEMs do not have to be competitive because people do not buy Apple in Europe. Another reason why Apple is essential for the industry as proven with US pricing. It also works both ways, if Windows OEMs are not reducing prices, then Apple has less incentive to do the same--Catch-22.

I think what's happening with the performance is that the asymmetric CCD has core parking/assignment sorted out and you have only the four "big" cores running at full tilt for the game while the eight efficiency-biased "little" cores and their 16 threads are running Windows. By contrast, unless you manually reduce the minimum CPU power state in Windows, the regular all "big" core CPU will try to put as much power as possible into the CPU even when it doesn't help. I have the TUF A15 with the 6800u and 3060, and here's how it behaves on some games: I. GPU-bound : Total War Games 3440x1440p (external monitor via DP1.4; NIS at 70%), most settings on High but unit count is on Extreme, no AA; note that CPU behavior is standard for all these games but I'm only using the 3K battle bench for overall performance. a. 100% Minimum Power State, 15w/25w/35w PL stepping : MSI Afterburner shows CPU at 18watts to 35watts, four cores running at 4.5ghz while the rest are a little under; GPU still stays at 115w, no 25w boosting; CPU hits 95C within 2mins of staring at the campaign map. I'm not even scrolling around or ending the turn to process all of the CPU's turns. Three Kingdoms battle benchmark; roughly~90fps battle bench. b. 25% Minimum Power State, 15w/25w/35w PL stepping :MSI Afterburner shows CPU at 18watts to 35watts, haven't looked at individual core clock but if only one clock is shown it's at 3.0ghz, swinging between 12w to 21w; noticeable stutters on campaign map, will only hit about 88C after about 15mins of staring into the screen and very slowly creeps to 90. Same battle benchmark fps, but actual battle gameplay has slight but noticeable stuttering. No GPU boosting either but it's highly playable. c. 35% Minimum Power State, 90% Maximum Power State, 25w/45w/60w PL stepping : No stuttering on campaign map and battles, runs at around 3000mhz, 18w with some 25w to 27w spikes, same range benchmark fps. II. CPU-bound : CS2, same res, graphics settings high; no benchmark, same power settings as above - no benchmark, but the range where the fps is at when I can look at it (ie there's no active firefight happening within my FOV), the range doesn't change much. Roughly more around ~160fps at the lowest CPU settings vs ~185fps at the highest. Either way the CPU doesn't cook itself within the time each match takes. No noticeable stuttering when there's an active firefight on screen. Bring it down to 1080p and there will be noticeable performance differences but I don't play as a pro and at 1440p the fps is already at my monitor's refresh rate (165hz) anyway.

I know it's superficial and shallow, but I just can't stand the TUF name being branded on the lid. That's something I would expect a toy to be called. And that weird logo beside it is not helping either...

It's a shame that the second SSD in HX370 laptops is only PCI.E 4.0 ×2. A downgrade over the last generations

No soldered RAM, 🙄please! SODIMM is so functional. Is Windows trying to go the Apple way? No way! Don’t. That would be a disaster for Windows laptops, and it’s exactly one reason why people hate Mac Books-'for their lack of flexibility and upgradebility'. If Windows loses its biggest USP (i.e., future upgrades at the user level), it’s going to be a rough ride, as Apple’s current M3 chips are already better than Intel, Qualcomm, or AMD chips, and the M4 Pro Mac Books are just around the corner with an expected huge jump in benchmarks over the M3s....We'll soon be hearing Tim Cook - 'Our M4 Mac books are the best Mac books we ever made!!😁😁

Tell them to stop making 16Gb gaming laptops, 24GB and up makes more sense in 2024
