While the Z97 Chipset was not aimed as a performance upgrade, ASUS seized the opportunity to upgrade the features and usability of the Sabertooth Z97 beyond the addition of SATA Express. While there is no denying that the Sabertooth remains a bit of a niche board, its Z97 iteration is bar far the most mainstream friendly offering we have seen in the TUF line to date.

Upgraded military class components remain, including alloy chokes, Japanese black metallic capacitors and military standard MOSFETs, as does server grade testing for increased durability and reliability expectations. The Sabertooth Mark 1 retains the familiar Thermal Armor and dust defenders in the front, with the TUF Fortifier backplate increasing board strength and adding to overall heat dissipation. The fan and cooling control that the Sabertooth line is known for has been upgraded with a new TUF Ice microprocessor working in conjunction with enhanced cooling controls in BIOS and the revamped Thermal Radar 2. In what may come as a surprise, the audio section of the Sabertooth has been greatly upgraded using the same EMI shielding and left/right audio separation found on ROG boards, with a move to the ALC1150 CODEC at its heart. While the features may be more mainstream, ASUS still backs the Sabertooth Z97 with the TUF Series 5-Year Warranty.
