There's a lot of potential here with the Asus Zenbook S 16 (2024) and I basically love the fact that there are no compatibility issues with your apps, beautiful design, thin and light, good port selection, great 1080p webcam, clear internal mics, good battery life although not the best we've seen lately from the Snapdragon series of laptops, and nice internal quality from the 6 speakers as well. It's a great start from the AMD camp which will probably get even better as time goes on I'm assuming. Regarding the internal speaker quality, it's great for a Windows machine but still not a match for the MacBook Air. All and all and for only $1399.99 it's a terrific value and $300 less than the comparable MacBook Air at $1699.99. Great video once again Andrew!! 👍😁

Seems like the Asus might take the lead there, but you laid out their battery life completely different so it's hard to tell

Something nearly all the reviewers missing: It's a 28W APU, which can go up to 54 (in other systems), asus has restricted it here to 28 watts (sadly), because they wanted to go slim. But this thing has actually a loooot more performance if a manufacturer would use it the right way. Asus offers the lower priced new vivobook 14, 15 and 16 with a full 54w Ryzen 9 AI HX 370. So, that would be interesting.

I got one. There was no pen in the box and no dongle thing either but it was a touch screen, kinda useless without the pen. The screen blinked out and didn't come back for over 5 minutes - no HDMI output either but it was beeping away. The power limitations that are placed on the processor also give me pause. The processor is not really being allowed to get up and run. So it is going back. No doubt it looks great and is super portable but that comes at a cost.

Andrew, I respectfully disagree with your conclusion that the Ryzen 9 AI 365 in the ASUS Zenbook S 16 laptop is slower than the Snapdragon Elite X in Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge. First, your benchmark testing suggests that the Ryzen 9 AI 365 is roughly equivalent to the Snapdragon Elite X. I went back to your review of the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge. The Samsung laptop posts scores of 2712 (single core) and 14756 (multi-core) in Geekbench 6. The ASUS Zenbook S 16 posts scores of 2786 (single core) and 13070 (multi core). Thus, Geekbench 6 suggests that the Ryzen 9 AI 365 is faster in single core than the Snapdragon Elite X and slower in multi-core. The opposite is true in Cinebench 2024. The Samsung laptop posts scores of 120 (single core) and 709 (multi-core) in Cinebench 2024, and the ASUS laptop posts scores of 111 (single core) and 787 (multi-core). In other words, your benchmarks suggest a wash. However, I note that the Ryzen 9 AI 365 beats the Snapdragon Elite X quite handily in Cinebench 2023, whether single-core or multi-core. It seems to me that Qualcomm had some undue influence in the coding of the newer benchmarks. Second, the Ryzen 9 AI 365 is more power efficient than the Snapdragon Elite X. A laptop with the Snapdragon Elite X consumes above 55 W to generate the benchmarks you posted. In contrast, the ASUS Zenbook S 16 consumes only about 33 W, which is significantly lower. Thus, if the Ryzen 9 AI 365 were allowed to pull slightly more power (e.g., 40 W), it would outperform the Snapdragon Elite X. This higher power efficiency has important implications. Laptops are intended to be used on battery power, and when doing so, limit the power available to their CPUs. Thus, the performance on battery power is usually lower than when plugged in. Your testing of the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge shows that switching to battery power drops its single- and multi-core performance to, respectively, 2696 and 12819 in Geekbench. So what are the scores of the ASUS Zenbook 5 when on battery power? I believe both will be higher than the Snapdragon Elite X - which would contradict your conclusion. If a comparison is going to be made with the Snapdragon Elite X, I believe “plugged in” and “on battery” benchmarks need to be presented. I know that you will be getting other laptops for review with Ryzen AI 300 series processors in them (e.g., ASUS, HP, and Lenovo). Hopefully, you can find the time to complete both types of benchmarks.

Hi Andrew, wondering if you could help me out real quickly... I received mine yesterday and really like it for the most part. Having two issues. First, if I set the display at 120hz and then click on dynamic, it automatically defaults back to 60hz and no longer let's me make any changes unless I restart the laptop and then it's the same cycle, choose either 60 or 120hz and if I click again on dynamic same things happen again. Second, regarding build. With if I squeeze the front center below the touchpad, it makes a lied popping/clicking sound as the bottom cover caves in under pressure and literally leaves a gap big enough that I can slide my fingernail between the keyboard body and the bottom plate... I'm hoping you can look into that on your unit so I can determine whether there is a flaw with mine or if something else is at stake. Thanks a lot!

This AMD processor is far better than the snapdragon processor any day. Since there are virtually no compatability issues running Windows apps, it is by far the better choice. The snapdragon will always have compatability issues. Why would one want to spend so much money on a snapdragon device when we do not know how many new compatability issues could arrive in the future. Plus when Microsoft updates windows each month there are always some issues with these updates. Who knows in the future what unique problems could arise that are unique to snapdragon? It is worth the small sacrafice in running times of the snapdragon to stay with these new x86 processors whether it is AMD or Intel. Great review of this pc.

I own one. There aren't any compatibility issues in my experience. It's hard to even tell that I'm on ARM. BTW, it's not a small sacrifice to stay on x86. Not only is the battery life far better, but standby time is even better than that. And you get instant wake times.
