The ability to see the mistake at speed, and breakdown how to improve on it is what makes this coach so talented. Also he's so passionate and energetic

Also making sure the full backs are showing the attackers to their outside, preventing them from cutting in and having a shot. Thats what i think separates a pro defender from a pickup game defender.

Depends where on the pitch. If you are on the halfway line you would be more likely to show them inside where you have more players and can slow the attack. Also if they are very one footed you are more likely to show them on to their weaker foot

@@garethjones5853 i agree however that is a coaches choice. Some coaches use this technique to always push to help defense, some use it to always push wide and some use it differently depending on factors like which third of the field the ball is in or as you say, the opposite of what the player wants...but the point is to use good technique to apply whatever defending philosophy you choose

great session! why the switch though at 43:20 to do exactly the same exercise only on the other side of the field ?
@weeanderz
@weeanderz 3 жыл бұрын
There are no area restrictions in the drill beginning at 43.20. Best guess is that it was quicker to move to the other side than pick up the cones, or another coach was using the area to deliver the same drill.

I think the only thing he missed was anticipation. I think thats key with the small space drills he did early in the video. Watching the attackers eyes and body language is crucial!
@dawgyv72

You can't teach anticipation. It only comes from experience. Watching eyes and body language is exactly how I fake-out and pass defenders all day in tournaments.

Always look at the ball and think of your position. Looking at an attackers eyes or body language is more likely to bait you into a tackle when all you need to do is slow the game down and let them make a mistake

at 6:15 the defender already do the same techinque as coach ask him to do... to risky to stay open wide on 1 v1 situation..should bring the oppt 1 side only.. at 47:03 the coach should stop the session.. and coaching the mistake of the defender that allowed striker to shoot and get a goal.. he miss what is the MEANING of the masterclass coaching - Problem solving

A bit too much talking from the coach at times for me and I am surprised he never spotted how deep the full backs were when playing as a back four. Using the offside rule is a legitimate defensive strategy and also clears the space for the most important defender(the goalkeeper) to sweep up behind the defensive line. That said there were some excellent ideas in there for defensive coaching. Don't forget your goalkeeper though!
@ashgiri94
@ashgiri94 6 жыл бұрын
leontrotsky These guys don't correct everything they see. The best coaches see the game so well there are innumerable things which need fixing every few minutes, but the practice has a specific focus so that the coach can maximize the efficiency of his time with the players. If you fix everything, you end up fixing nothing. But if you fix one or two KEY things, the other 6-7 sort of take care of themselves (because they're all connected). I'm a coach & it took me years to learn this simple fact.

There is a mistake in this defending session! It's not the defence but the attack. The attack is predictable with only one move. No overlaps to creat 2v1. No Cris-cross to confuse the defence. Further more the striker should be back to CD back and attack with 2 wide players. Then the attackers will be unpredictable and the back 3 must cope with different and more complicated situations.
