I’m originally from Yorkshire, but I now live in Tasmania so I still see snow. You didn’t mention how snow smells, it has a distinct smell. As a child I could smell it the night before it fell. Great vlog!

Snow is condusive to walking fast and long to keep warm. Give me a snowy walk over a QLD walk any day, although I love watching you walk around Brisbane.

I lived in a hilly part of Kent, UK, for my first 30 years or so before emigrating to Queensland 20 years ago. When we got snow/ice there it was a major event, complete chaos, nobody knew how to handle it. The yellow salt bins by the side of the road were useless. Much entertainment was to be had hanging out of my teenage bedroom window listening to the traffic slide down our local hill and waiting for the metallic crunching sound. Enjoy the change of scene Rob.

That was fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed joining you on that walk without having to experience the cold!! That church and cemetery were magical! Hi Rob, Aussie here who grew up in Buckinghamshire. I do miss the walkability of living in England. I used to walk a lot, along roads and across fields and through woods. Don't miss the snow though. Good for playing in but when the buses don't run and you have to walk through it to school or work it's not much fun. You get there cold and wet and stay that way all day. Maybe these days with central heating it might be better. There is is something magical about fresh snow though. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
@FrothNinjaКүн бұрын
Thought you were back in Aus We had fresh snow just over the border in Lancs this arvo. Working at the Museum in York yesterday and there was no snow. Huddersfield had a couple of inches I believe. You need to go for a slide on the snow slopes of Yorkshire - bleedin' good fun. The grit is the reason why classic vehicles suddenly disappear off the road. The yellow flowers on the spikey gorse often smell of coconut oil - lovely, redolent of sun tan oil of the 70s/80s

With you on that one. I’d much prefer snow and cold conditions rather than multiple 30+ degree days In November which we are about to face in Ballarat, which is highly irregular. With no one around it, it kind of looked like you were on a film set or something. Amazing backdrop, and I’m glad you’re enjoying it!

I've got a friend up that way in Wick - we actually worked together teaching in China in 2005! She'd always tell me of the long polar nights and cold up there. It was always hilarious visiting her apartment in China, she'd be on the phone speaking the most insane Gaelic at lighting speed to family back home lol! She was only 21 at the time, so bloody impressive too!

First covering of snow is pretty, full stop. The novelty soon wares off. When you get a lot and can't work or even get to work, or the shops to get food, you soon get sick of it. Great fun when you are a kid, but less so as a working adult. As for dodging extreme temperatures. I am a builder. I grew up in England and necessity means you work in all conditions, if you can. I have since lived and worked in Queensland for 26 years. Necessity means you work in all conditions. Such as concreting in 42C. In the UK sweeping the snow off a roof to lay tiles in minus 5. Wet tiles frozen together. Earning a living as the sole provider is a hard taskmaster. If you work in an office, once you get there the temperature is artificially controlled. But for outside workers like dairy farmers and builders you just have to cope.
