Picked up a beater 89 Saleen a few years ago, we upgraded to coil overs all around, rack + pinion, power steering pump, bump steer upgrade, slotted and drilled rotors. My son is doing the work. Couple more days, it will back on the road. Can’t wait! 🏁. So cool seeing the attention these cars get.

So much fun can be had with a car that’s not perfect.

Wow, how heartwarming to have Saleens and Mark invited to this show. Now I AM feeling old/classic!

69 years old here and still have the 1985 Mustang LX 5.0 I bought new. I sent mine to Larry/Motion for the 427 Windsor install years ago. That guy knows his stuff!

I’m hearing more and more stories like yours from the 80’s buyers as time goes by.

Pebble Beach of Muscle Cars indeed. I was straight up salivating over the Regatta Blue 85 Saleen in the corral. I also enjoy some of the bluesy music at the end of the video too. I sure there was more eye candy there than time to film it all.

More to come on that car. 😉 it had an engine bay fire… twice!

This brings back memories. I designed and prototyped Saleen body and interior pieces back in the '80's. That black one at 12:00 doesn't have the speaker/amplifier panel that went where the rear seat backs were originally mounted. Did those ever get produced?
@PuristMotorsports9 ай бұрын
The 1993 SA10 didnt come standard with that speaker box. The 1989 SSC did. The SA10 was the only fox Saleen model where each car was custom ordered to the first buyers taste. So one SA10 did get a speaker box. But it wasn’t standard. A rear seat was actually the standard base option. A rear seat delete was chosen on this car by the first owner.

@@PuristMotorsports Yes. The SSC was my last Saleen project. Thanks

Watching now - great coverage! Muscle car was used to refer to any American, 2 door car that was a "high performance" offering. Could be a small block, could be a big block. "Can't swing a dead cat without hitting a hemi...." LOL
@PuristMotorsports11 ай бұрын
It’s interesting how the 80’s American performance offerings weren’t considered “muscle” for a long time. Maybe it was a generation saying it can only be the 62-72 era. Or maybe it was a generation not wanting to be classified as “an old man’s muscle car”. Either way, organizers of shows like this are taking note and bringing them in. There were also 80’s Monte Carlo’s and Buick GN’s there.
@michaelyount317611 ай бұрын
At the time - most of the 80's offerings were pretty anemic. Folks who grew up with 60's/70's muscle thought the era was dead. Cars like the Foxbody Stangs, Camaros and Buick GN's helped folks realize that "muscle" was morphing. @@PuristMotorsports

Bob, I observed on your SA10 you have stock aluminum valve covers polished. Did you do the work or a shop/friend do this work? I know this is a big ask, if you did do it yourself can you list the steps grades of sandpaper and polish used? Looking forward to more recent videos 👏👏👏.
@PuristMotorsports9 ай бұрын
Hey Mark, Yes, you’re right. Stock valve covers. I sent them off to someone who does polishing. I always try to find someone who can do a process better than me and I’m picky. Unfortunately the guy I used retired. He did work for Bobby Alloway, Boyd Coddington…etc. His work was fantastic but he was aging and ready to call it quits. Which he did. There are a few places around that can do it though. Gosh, thinking about it the valve cover polishing was done 6-7 years ago now. Time flies!! I think I would go chrome if I had to do it again. The maintenance drives me nuts. But it does match the supercharger. 🥴

Won’t be long. The last new edge was produced 20 years ago this year. 2024.
