This is a really interesting form of reintegrative shaming. Strengthening identity in native culture as a deterrent to future offenses against their people. Wonder if it will impact recidivism.

As an Indigenous man that has not been to the correctional system since, (over 15 years) I can attest that a lot of people in there have lost their identity into gangs and drugs. Its sad that truly, something like smudging helps bring us back to our roots but its hard being released back into a world thars infested with drugs.

Oh super cool. Lived on reservations. Lived with and loved with native Americans. This is a great story. But to this day as a white man. You do not drink with native Americans after eleven pm. They your friends will count 😎 on you. They are not a people you would expect anything from. You leave in the light. After dark. Just call yourself lucky. They are a awesome people. But never turn your back unless it is in the light.
