You gave the invaluable information that I critically needed. At my former home my turntable was set on the “phono” setting in the back of the turntable. When I set it up in my new home, incorporating it with my new Sony stereo and 5.1 Dolby system, I was not getting hardly any volume. It was because I needed to set the turntable switch to “Line” setting, due to the RCA input I am now using on the back of the stereo. Now I have LPs playing at full volume. Thanks so much!!!

One MAJOR omission on this instructional video!!! I had a similar problem that MANY others have as well, where my Windows10 recognizes the USB turntable, but Audacity doesn't recognize it. You show the switch on the back that is either Phono or Line, but you don't fully explain this switch. If you are trying to record directly to a PC, the switch must be on Line for the system to work. My guess is that Phono is for going through a preamp and into a stereo. Otherwise, I enjoyed this video.

Hi there, I have to say this is one of the best turntables out there, what you didn't mention was pressing the 45 and 331/3 rpm buttons allows it to play records at 78rpm. This is well worth the money! It's just ashame it's fully manual, and doesn't have an auto return, when the record finishes.
@MultiVinyljunkie Жыл бұрын
@the_hobbyist well, 78rpm records do have a much wider groove, and depending on how they have been cared for is reflected in sound reproduction. Some may sound really worn and hissy but, if you play the groove wall, you'll have a much clearer sound, ( I do this only when copying the record, but don't recommend for every day listening) even spraying the disc with water can improve sound reproduction. With later 78s' the groove is more compact but still require a larger needle ( the turn-over cartridge found on Danette's have a smaller needle for LP,(red) 16 & 33 1/3 rpm and a fatter one for standard play (green) 78 & 45rpm) ..Records made after 1973 tend to have smaller grooves and require a smaller needle (red) and with todays records the grooves are even smaller and much easier to damage, so a light weight Tone arm and stylus is preferred. In answer to your question, a 78 rpm record can damage your stylus, I tend to use a part worn stylus for this turntable, so I use a new one for vinyl and a part worn for 78s , unless you're 78s are mint condition (always mark the one you use for 78s) .. I've never experienced a stylus breaking through playing shellac but I wouldn't say it's not possible. As they rotate at twice the speed, a chip or deep scratch can 'chip' the tip of your stylus and therefore, will seriously damaged your vinyl. So, in conclusion, yes, it's possible 78s can break a stylus, and it's always best to use the right type of needle for all records but for shellac, it doesn't really matter. Tip, always hold a 78 with your middle finger under the spindle hole and the thumb on the edge of the disc. And hold around the edges of the record or use lint free gloves, because the oils from your skin can spoil the laquer finish and make the disc more brittle and encourage dirt and dust to settle in the grooves.

@AudioTechnicaUSA2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Leaving the dust cover open while playing prevents the buildup of low frequencies which can occur within it. This buildup can cause the turntable to resonate, creating feedback and distortion. Leaving the cover open also prevents skipping which can occur when the cover is lowered and raised during play. The point of balancing the tone arm is just to ensure that when you set your tracking force it is accurate. It isn't meant to stay in that perfectly balanced state forever - just consider the first step in properly setting tracking force.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the sound, except the volume isn't as loud as I'd hoped it would be. It seems that I can get more volume out of that speaker playing songs on my phone as compared to the turntable. I called BestBuy and they suggested flipping the switch on the back of the turntable to 'phono,' which had the effect of muting the sound completely. Perhaps I'll just have to get him speakers with cables, but any suggestions to get more volume using bluetooth is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi there! Please follow the following steps: Set the tracking force once the tone arm is floating. When the tone arm is floating, you will then turn the calibrations dial only to zero, then you add the correct weight and anti-skid value. Thanks! - A-T USA

What is the make and model of the device shown at 5:27 for the AUX in example? It looks like an FM/AM/internet radio, but I'm not sure why that would have an OSD out.

Does the arm on these lift back when a record is finished?..and can it play on repeat ?..
@AudioTechnicaUSA2 ай бұрын
Hi there! The AT-LP120XUSB is a fully manual turntable, so the tonearm does not automatically lift at the end of records, nor does it play on repeat. - A-T USA

Hello there, I have a question, I just bought one of these but I am having some trouble. So first i plugged it into a stereo and sounded ok, but since the speakers are a little old I decided to upgrade, So I bought a preamp (Behringer Microphono PP400), I connected to via RCA with ground and set the turntable on Phono. Then I connected the preamp to my monitor (Yamaha HS5) with a balanced cable (TRS to XLR) and the instruments sound great but the voice is lower, I do not understand why.

i am doing it now. i found the arm balance but the number is already zero. so i leave it like that right? looks it has a good balance and is already on zero. so i did not move the number dial as it is zero already then i adjusted the whole thing at 2 and then 2 anti skating. do u think is it ok?

I'm struggling trying to set this up, no matter who much I try it isn't working right, I think it's an issue with the counterweight no matter what it stays at the same angle and I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

Do you have to have a speaker or amp for this because I just finished setting my new one up and the volume is VERY low and I can’t find a volume dial
@AudioTechnicaUSA Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, you need to have a speaker or amp, as the AT-LP120XUSB does not have a built-in speaker. Thanks! - A-T USA

working. i just would like to be sure to have correctly done the set up and arm balance etc. now my old Gerrard a more than 30 years old semi automatic Gerrard is still functional but this is a present from my wife. Being an oold rock metal punk head (but appreciates all good music to reggae soul dark electro etc) but not that much of an audiophile. cannot really say if the sound with the new turntable or the bew cartdrige is so much better than before (also depends on the speakers I guess here too I use 2 old JVC from my wife when she was young but not that much money to spend and during Covid times even less) U just really want to be sure that I have found the arm balance in the correct way (as mentioned below when I found it the number dial was by chance already on zero so I did not turn it anymore) then I set 2 as you suggest and snti skating at 2. just to be sure that set up is good for the cartdrige and the vinyl so they last in time as it lasted (and still works my old super old semi autimatic Gerrard a friend gave to me). thanks for helping me out!

Also have this table and wanted to add/point out: i had to get a different headshell when i mounted my MC cartridge because the stock one wasnt long enough to allow proper overhang (a used Air-Tight PC-1). I needed about another 2mm. So just a heads up that some higher end MC cartridges might need this swap. Also, i ended up bypassing all the internal boards and installing better RCA jacks at the rear and wiring the tonearm wires direct. It made a huge improvement. Not a necessary mod for everyone but in my system it really opened things up. Wished there was adjustment for Azimuth and VTA but for the price, i guess we get what we get ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Been enjoying it since.

Question about routing: I have my PC connected to a Focusrite Scarlett Solo connected to two Yamaha HS7 speakers using their XLR primary input, which leaves their secondary 6,35mm Jack input free. How can I connect the turntable to the speakers? They don't have a RCA input, do I have to buy separate RCA-to-6,35mmJack cables?
@mattje273 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that there are two options: - Using a x2 RCA to x1 6,35mm Jack and plugging it in the audio interface line input - Using a x2 RCA to x2 6,35mm Jack and plugging it in directly into the speakers Can anyone help me out? Thanks
@AudioTechnicaUSA3 жыл бұрын
@@mattje27 Hi there! You may use a pair of RCA to 6.3mm TS adapters to connect the audio output from the turntable to the 6.3mm inputs of your audio interface. Thanks! - A-T USA

Just got this exact turntable. Set it up per instruction and used this video for reference. I also had a pro DJ friend help me set it up, level it properly, balance tonearm just right, etc. Everything works properly and sounds great. But after my DJ friend left, I noticed a smell of burning plastic coming from under the platter/plinth. I figured the smell is just because it's new. I've never owned a brand spanking new record player! But it's been a week and still smells like burning plastic when in use. It doesn't smell when not in use. It's not close to any sources of heat. I have it isolated on a table. Any idea, why it smells like burning plastic only when it is playing a record? I checked the balance of the tonearm and it is not too heavy nor too light. I smelled a record immediately after playing it to see if the smell was coming from the friction of the needle on the record. But I smelled nothing. Everything I play on it sounds amazing. I'm just concerned about the burning smell. I always close the lid of any record player I use to help isolate it and to keep dust off. Could it be because I close the dust cover/lid when in use?🤷🏾♂️ Please help?🙏🏽✌🏾

I have the lp120 I had to take it in to get a new stylus put on, when I went to pick it up from the repair shop the guy said when aligning the new stylus he said the anti skate does not work, I forgot to ask him if that is possible to fix. So I’m asking on here is it possible to repair the anti skate?

I am interested in this turntable solely for it's USB functionality. I want to sample records at high sample rates (196khz.) Is it possible to do this with the LP-120xusb? Thanks.
@AudioTechnicaUSA9 ай бұрын
Hi there! The highest sample rate that the AT-LP120XUSB will output is 48kHz. If a higher sample rate is required, you will need to purchase an A/D converter. Thanks! - A-T USA

When levelling the turntable, is it best to level the plinth or the platter? When I try to level it, I get a different reading when the level tool is on the platter than when I place it on the plinth. Does AT have a specific technique that is recommended for the ATLP120XUSB?

I'm considering upgrading the cartridge on this one to a VM540ML and I'm just wondering if there are things I need to consider, e.g. any potential issues with the tonearm height, or headshell, or if I can just go ahead and straight out swap out the cartridge?
