Considering how hard it is for metal detectors to work in or around salt water that AT MAX did really well ! Amazing actually ! I am very impressed ! I just ordered one , I can't wait to try it out. Good luck and happy hunting.

Thanks to all for Comments. What 'I like to do' in my videos is to imagine I am a first time user of the detector I am showing to show what a newbie person can expect to happen. I know "How-To" use them in other better ways but, my point is to show what can occur! I worked for a major manufacturer for years and designed many Top Seller detectors!

Saltwater settings for the AT Max ---> Drop the sensitivity down 1 (3 total), go into 'zero mode' and set your iron disrim to about 40-43, then lower your threshold to negative 3, auto-ground balance the machine; then, manually ground balance 2-3 down (in that order!), and you'll be in optimal saltwater settings - no chirping or distraction, and you'll be able to pick up on real targets running a negatively ground balanced AT Max. Don't forget to reset the machine when you go into new environments. Minelab is better in this environment, but if you don't have the $$$, try the above and it should work out for you. All other terrain, the Max is a solid machine. Happy hunting!

I TO BOUGHHT A GARRETT AT MAX FROM DETECTOR WAREHOUSE FOR A EXCELLENT PRICE INCLUDING A TON OF ACCESSORIES,THEY HAVE THE BEST PRICE/DEAL RIGHT NOW !!! BUT I FOUND OUT THAT THE MORE I WORK WITH IT,THE MORE I SPEND TIME WITH IT THE EASIER IT GET'S.IT JUST TAKE ME LONGER TO LEARN THIS COMPUTER STUFF.

Seems like to me the design engineers at Garrett would have included a saltwater mode that would auto input the settings in the post below. I just ordered an AT Max- after watching the demos that showed how great and improved this detector was over other previous models. Im not feeling too good about this new detector now and I have not even received yet! Lol!

If price was not an issue, would there be any reasons to buy an AT Pro over an AT Max? Im so torn on which to go for. I will be doing a bit of beach combing aswell as land, so that rules out the AT Gold. Other than that, I'm a bit stumped (I'm a noob though), Thanks
@DesDunne15 жыл бұрын
I'd say you might be served well for casual beach work and inland sites with the AT Pro. I loved it. The Max is a tad too wild and erratic to quieten but is the better of the two over wet salt, more stable. But,. as I said, the ATP is decent too!

@@DesDunne1 Thankyou, that made my mind up. I think I'll rule out the Max now :)

First put it in all metal then back the threshold down into a negative one. Run the sensitivity to 3 notches from full sensitivity and see if she quiets down significantly. But search the sand by itself, then the wet sand by itself then under water separately while doing a new ground balance for each area first. It should run so much more smoother

Good job on video, setting your iron reject up to 40, and a good ground balance around 15, with sensitivity just below max, seems to be the best salt water set up...glhh
@stevelamperta8654 жыл бұрын
These type of detectors dont work very well at all in or around salt water. Infact there AT gold model states it doesn't work around salt water. The salt water has to much conductivity and it really makes it hard for these detectors to verify between conductive metals and the conductive water... You can find this information on their website , Garrett.com

Gavin Gogo I agree, but the only drawback seems you have to dig almost everything with the Nox 800. I don’t own one, but want one. Once I find enough with the Max I will take that money, sell the Max and spend that money on a Nox 800, but that won’t be for a long time, because all I find with the Max is junk 😂

@@akaredcrossbow Then you're too dumb and don't know how to metal detect!!! Maybe you should get you an ACE 150 metal detector so you can start from the very basics and actually learn how to use one!

In Connecticut you have to turn in anything like jewlery you find on beaches which is why I won't do it. I'm not investing time and money to give back gold rings and bracelets. You must have different laws in your state. If there's identification or some way of me finding out who the owner is for a phone thats different. That I have no problem returning. Wallets the same I'd love to return them but jewelry should be finders keepers.

This is not smooth running at all. I get that all machines have their fans but if you want some ACTUAL salt water performance get a Minelab. I run both a Garret and a Minelab machine and they're beautiful machines, but both fill their own niche. However if you don't have the funds this is, of course, a good machine.
