Dahlgren Backpackers Campground (mi. 1043.8) to Raven Rock Shelter (mi. 1061.7) Another great unplanned day that worked into a plan. It was a pretty uneventful morning, and by 2:30 we had hiked 14 miles to a road crossing. The road went to Smithsburg, MD where we knew there was a great deli and a Dollar General, so we decided to hitch hike. Me, Yukon Cornelius, and Huckleberry & Wyatt 🐶 got picked up pretty quickly by the local pastor and his wife, we were so happy 😃. We hit the deli (see food below) then did a mini-resupply at the General. A gentleman named Kevin offered us a ride back to the trail head right away, so we were back on the trail by 3:30ish. There was a shelter there but I figured with all that fuel I could make the next one about 4 miles away. It was a harder 4 miles than anticipated, but at least I don’t have to do it tomorrow 😎
Todays menu: A cliff bar, licorice, 2 snickers, a pulled pork sandwich, quart of chocolate milk, package of Swedish fish, small container of broccoli & bacon salad, cliff energy bloks, salt & vinegar Pringles, Gatorade protein bar, package of pop tarts, and tons of water with Gatorade mix.
