As I am the first like and comment- way to go. That gap looks like a peaceful crossing. Grew up in New York but as a young boy, only hiked up in Connecticut backpacking. The old Eaatern forests are so different than the West's. You actually look like a man I saw training for the PCT out at a place called Rush creek in 2017, Modoc County, Weird huh?! 😵💫😱

Try the A.T. up in Vermont, New Hampshire and the trail leading up to Mount Katahdin in Maine. I did it in the late 1970’s with my buddy “Baker” . We did it in winters, camping in the snow. And canoed the whitewaters under Katahdin, before we started working at Outward Bound, Maine. The Jersey portions are easy, I grew up in Brooklyn NY. Jersey’s only good for the Shore, beaches and ocean. You wanna do some real hiking, start in Connecticut on Route 7, and start with the Housatonic River and State Park, climb up in the waters of Kent Falls for a cool refreshing, challenging wet rock climb up the waterfall. Then just take CT Rte 7 North. You’ll follow the mountains and see signs for the A.T. trail access.

That’s amazing! Thank you so much 🙏 I’m hoping to make it to Katahdin by mid September 👍🏻
