It’s like the South Park cable guy… “oops, did I leak more data? What are you going to do about it?”

My social security number was compromised through AT&T back in April 2024 due to being an AT&T subscriber in 2021.

A law that made it illegal for them to just keep this data would be nice

Any company that pays a ransom should be fined a minimum of 20 percent of their yearly income. And it should be illegal to pass that on to their customers.

Industry philosophy is that it is cheaper to get hacked then have security. Some companies have made money due to insurance after being hacked.

While I agree with the sentiment your proposal is nonsense.

Thanks. Our sons phone is through ATT and just changed to a long password.

I really wish there was a way here in the US that citizens had a legal recourse for companies exposing our data. I think it would be a better incentive for companies to take our data more seriously.

I'm mainly concerned with phone number issues. It's not like there's anyway to just secure a phone number like passwords "secure" your accounts.
@Jopn83Ай бұрын
What I don't get is why so many places uses your social security. They should use your driver license and if a breach occurs you can request a new number. Leave the SS number just for that or make a new number for use for utilities for everyone that is linked to your SS but can be changed if needed at the SS office

i think (am i non merican) that it is poor form the FTC or whomever should be making some huge steps to make sure these companies are protecting the data, i mean, at some point there has got to be a risk to the country, or to companies with countless amounts of sensitive data now open, and no telling the impacts for years to come

Great video of explaining this issue! The government delayed att releasing the notice, but still should have been reported sooner. Glad I’m not using att now

How in 2024 data brokers still a thing and data breaches still happening?! Capitalism needs to end and maybe just maybe people will be less greedy!

Does this breach change anyone's mind if the past million breaches didn't? 😆 Hopefully a couple.

Penalties are nice, but it's not security. It IS incentives, but we don't have them yet, and it may become a mott point if enough breaches happen in the mean time. At least Strong *unique* passwords will help stave-off account hijacking, BUT if SIM swapped, you only have *1FA* left. I wish that Banks and Cell providers would provide non-SMS means to have 2FA. -_-
