@@darlingfascistbullyboy You're absolutely right. I saw it myself when I went to a discussion with the Omar/Cedric team about how the last ATDI album suck, it can't even be ATDI without Ward, because Omar simply doesn't know how to play that punk that Jim Ward has in his hands and how the reunion tour is just a reason for Afro Twins to take a lot of money (more than the rest of the band) and that the band will then break up again.Everyone attacked me! Omar and Cedric don't have fans, it's an occult sect. Of course, after the tour it turned out that I was right. Long live Jim Ward - he's a punk in ATDI

Jim Ward looks so happy. I love this band. Always will
@LaceChaser3 жыл бұрын
It is great to see Jim happy, but I hate seeing Omar look so extremely bored... it’s insanely against his nature to go backwards in music. It’s why he releases tons of albums every year under his many projects. He has to keep creating new stuff to be happy. At The Drive In ended when it ended on his mind, even if he loves these guys so much that he’s willing to put that aside and waste potential creative time. It’s probably the reason he pushed to create a new album when they got back together. He couldn’t stand playing songs he played as a kid anymore with the insane amount of experience he had at this point. Only imagine what the new Mars Volta album is going to sound like. They’re my favorite band of all time and I love their early stuff the most. But, I know with Cedric not being able to sing like he did in 2003 and Omar being mush more creative now... It’s gonna be like an entirely new band. Partially why he loves working with Deantoni Parks as a drummer. Seeing as he created his own style of drumming and all. Very curious for what’s to come. With half the members dead and Juan with the brain injury. Might just see Flea on bass and John Frusciante come to stage with Volta. Who knows. These guys have always been amazing. A total mystery in the music world. I love it and will always love it. They got me into my career of music.

@@GlennSyndallius omg, that’s devastating. I’ve known most of my Hispanic friends to grieve really intense compared to most other friends and family. He is so professional. Just going out playing afterwards. Omar’s always loved music so much. Me and my fiancé rode some mountain bike trails nearby and rode by his grandparents home a while back actually. It makes a lot more sense now. Thank you for telling me that! Always wondered why he had such less energy than normal in this video. Damn, I have the feels for Omar too much.
@darlingfascistbullyboy Жыл бұрын
@@LaceChaser the only problem with that, while I do sympathize & empathize, is Omar/Cedric did the Noctourniquet tour during summer 2012 concurrently with their AtD-I shows. And if you watch those shows you will see an Omar that gets down just as crazy as he did in any Mars Volta show. While I do sympathize with his loss, he made it clear in interviews during that tour that he didn't connect with AtD-I's music anymore. Not to mention whatever beef/issue Omar seems to still have with Jim seems to be on display here. He certainly seemed to connect with the music 4 years later. Funnily enough after Jim was kicked out, after all the deception that he would be there. Despite having more than enough time to communicate that considering they made a whole new album to tour with. Guess that $50-$100 ticket prices were too much to contend with.

These guys don't give a fuck what anyone thinks or says. "His voice is whiney and he can't scream anymore", or "he isn't doing back flips"! NO SHIT. That was 15+ years ago! WTF!!! I'm 30. Ask me to do a backflip in 15 years and I'll tell you to go fuck yourself. They're artists. Criticize a painter and see where that gets you. Criticize a poet and see how that turns out. They wrote a whole album dedicated to a friend who committed suicide. The very idea of these guys playing together in the first place no matter what the capacity or the capabilities of each of them at the time, is enough to send a true ATDI fan into nostalgia. This was kind of the Led Zeppelin of our time. Relationship of command has been rated within the greatest 100 rock albums of all time. (50th I believe) OF ALL TIME. Did anyone catch that???? OFFFF ALLLLLL TIIIIIIIIIME (echo echo echo echo).............. Rick Ruben was working with them on that one btw. To any and all naysayers, haters, critics, negative Nancys etc.... I say this.... Return to your studio quality recordings if the live performance isn't your cup of tea. Live is supposed to be different. There's supposed to be some subtle differences between a live performance and a recording. If an artist was painting in front of you would you correct him and tell him that you didn't like his color choice or that his line wasn't exactly coming out the way you were used to it appearing? It's an expression created in that moment and time. How boring would it be to go and watch a band perform if they spat every song out I exactly the same way you heard it when you weren't watching them live? Whether that be the singers screaming or pitch, or the notes the instruments play. Think of a concert as an artists freestyle interpretation of pre written material and release your mind from any preconceived bias or expectation and you will allow yourself to live more in the moment and be happy and free. Now thinking outside of the ATDI box a little--- If you drove all the way out to Coachella, it's up to you to make sure you have a good time. Not the lead singer of some band. Anyone who was displeased enough to bitch about it later, could have easily moved along to another act and watched this video later if they had chosen to do so. The act of driving there does not promise anything in return. LMFAO!

Watch the Noctourniquet shows they did in 2012 concurrently with the AtD-I reunion. You will see an Omar that is just as crazy & dancing just as hard as he ever did. I'm pretty sure he lost his loved one merely a few days before the Coachella shows, & I don't think the Mars Volta Noctourniquet tour had kicked off yet. So I don't hold anything to him here. But as the months go by & you see his stagnant energy in one place, & then his absolute chaotic & passionate energy in another, it's pretty clear that it isn't just the loss that's keeping him from being passionate here, if not at least being able to express generosity & appreciation toward his lifelong bandmates, as well as the fans that traveled far & wide to see them reunited once again. Not to mention headlining opening day at night to a packed audience at one of the most massive & beautiful festivals you will ever see, at least in America. Either way, this show produced one of the most beautiful & epic performances of Quarantined. A moment I'm sure was a standout at the festival that year, & a moment I'm sure even the people in the audience who were there to see Jay-Z felt right in the heart. So I'm thankful for that.

Only because I know Omar was going through a rough time with his mom passing, and that quite understandably sucked the energy out of him. I think that also rubbed off onto the rest of the band, their energy levels are a bit subdued. With that said, their reunion this year is much better by comparison. Omar flies all over the place again, Cedric even screams a bit. The only bummer is that Jim opted out right before the first shows. @@chadwickwright2833 don’t listen to these guys. I’ve been in music over half my life and that’s how it is. People quit and people get booted. In a perfect world At the Drive In AND The Mars Volta would’ve been able to keep their original line up. But, then none of the great music would’ve came about. You never know what goes on behind closed doors. People don’t seem to grasp that. A band is like a relationship. You don’t tell the world about every fight or every talk you have. Jim was happy to play for a bit but moved on. Omar was bored as hell because he is extremely creative and these are songs from his childhood. The new album ended up being a bust because cedrics vocals weren’t there either. Many things came into play here. The Mars Volta’s new album is coming out with half the members dead and one fresh out of a coma. It’s gonna sound insanely different and people will be really upset. I myself will always love anything any of these guys do because of THEIR STORY and THEIR TALENT. As for the whole Jim topic... he was ALWAYS an issue in the band. He was a great musician but he was always bringing up the fact that Cedric and Omar got more attention. Which was kinda true, yeah. But, you can’t sit there in interviews and complain about the two leads in your band and expect things to last. I totally back your comment. Jim left after enjoying a bit of the comeback and they found a good replacement for the short time they planned to keep up the reunion. Band life is difficult. Even more so when you have the world watching. Imagine your girlfriend or wife talking crap on interviews about you. It’s like that. It’s not always peaches and cream and groupies on the tour bus. Joan Saag It is very taboo in the ATDI world to focus on their only mainstream hit. Good song, but never bring it up in ATDI conversation :) lol

andrew blank yeah, i know ... but the new fans want to know how actually sounds their mainstream hit on stage
@andy864209 жыл бұрын
That would actually be a good thing, because then it has the potential to weed out the members of the band wagon!

Whyt did they drop the key? there's no difficult vocal melodies in their music. Why did he whine in the screamed parts??? those parts sounded awful, but the instruments were awesome.
@LuizMGRamos9 жыл бұрын
Dude, he never sounded good live. The screamed parts were like almost always out of tune and full of flaws. I miss those times too, but we gotta accept that they got old. Maybe he gotta take ease on his vocal chords.
@sinjinbeatbox9 жыл бұрын
rockboy360 because screaming fucks up your vocals, dude. it's not that hard to understand. he's not going to risk his vocal chords for a short reunion tour.
@rockboy3609 жыл бұрын
man, he screamed for years in ATD and all the mars volta stuff was after all of that, there's old hard rock and metal singers in their 30s,40s and 50s still screaming their guts out, they just need to use the proper techniques

I think Cedric could be more respectfull about the ATDI songs and try to reach and get voice tune, i love the band but sometimes he and Omar act like they are doing something awfull when playing
@idonteatcheetos9 жыл бұрын
his voice actually changed. i noticed watching mars volta videos from around this time and he sounded very similar, like his voice lost all harshness and fullness/bass, if i recall correctly he had a lot of vocal training before they reunited too which might have something to do with that

+The Holy Father. He didn't want to be at ANY of the shows though. Cedric pretty much said that it was just something Omar didn't want to do from the start, and he was just being a huge pissbaby during the few months they were playing together again. He said in interviews too that it wasn't his mom, it was something like "I was a much different person when we wrote those songs and I didn't enjoy being back in that place again"

He saved it for the Mars Volta tour that started right alongside AtD-I's in 2012. No, seriously.... Go watch those shows..... He dances like a _fucking madman_. There was even one show where he hammed it up by twisting his hips and sticking his tongue out. This very same tour (Noctourniquet tour) in 2012 literally run concurrent to AtD-I's, and the whole time he played the role of plant with the latter, he would fly to Europe and show his real passion with the former. Let's not forget Bosnian Rainbows, which happened right after AtD-I's 2012 tour finished, and how he treated that (Like it was the best fucking thing ever.... I sometimes wonder what he was actually listening to when he played those BR songs live, 'cause he danced crazier than any of their songs' fucking tempo's). And last, but definitely not least, there was the time he gave that interview where he all but confirmed the 2012 reunion was mostly about the money; there was even an interview where he said he was doing the tour, but he, "just [didn't] connect with the music anymore," but I can't seem to find it, so we'll take that one with a grain of salt for now. Suffice to say, I'm not a fan anymore after all that. How he feels about this band is clear to anyone who isn't a blind follower, and that, at least for me, is enough to lose immense respect for anyone.
