Fantastic! I directed this, didn't know who at the drive in were at the time. All I knew was they must be important because so many record industry people turned up for this on Th Joint. Thanks for posting. Awesome flashback for me!

hehe i produced ''live'' studio videos like this too with emerging bands and some unknowns and though none became as big as them, still feels so great to have helped those bands and see them grow now for those that made it, perhaps partially thanks to the videos we loved making. Almost gave them out to them too.

for those who dont know, these guys split up, the lead guitarist and vocals (omar and cedric) moved on to create the masterpiece 'The Mars Volta' while the other guitarist moved on and started the band Sparta. both great bands and both worth checking out if you like these guys.

God I love this version. So emotional and weird, and psychedelic.
@MidKnightKid988 ай бұрын
I really like the live version. To me it almost sounds emo. The guitar riff sounds very medical, like an ambulance, or padded room. Also kinda makes me imagine/fantasize some oldschool car, throttle pinned, angry, roaring, it's lights flickering from all the vibration, accelerating. It feels like someone going bonkers and trying to crash their car and end up in an ambulance

Epic...I became a fan of The Mars Volta this year, and I didn't know that Omar and Cedric were once in a band called At The Drive-In, a band of which I had heard of before. I bought Relationship of Commandm and I was blown away. Especially by Cedric's voice: aggressive, loud and surprisingly better than his work in The Mars Volta. I love both band, and I know these guys evolved since At The Drive-In break out...but in my opinion they were at their peak in their last "At The Drive-In years".

When I first heard this song about 8 years ago, I immediately thought, "This is what I've been DYING hear.." It's my standard for anything I hear now. Good base, killer electric guitar riffs, great vocals and genius lyricism.

10 year old comment but I love the double sequiturs in the second verse. The net was flung over auditorium/the slave trade (‘em) - slave trade the weak, the weak no call to arms. What word play
I understand these guys don't like moshing/crowd surfing/anything physical towards heavy emotional music, but it's kind of hard when your music is so fucking sexy.
