And did you bob down and back up like I and my fellow naughty schoolboy choristers did in our humourous (at aged ten) homage when we'd just sung "Every knee shall bow" ?

I have always loved this particular hymn. Our music teacher at school hammered his way through the keys on the piano, I can still hear him everytime I hear this being played.

I used to play it on the piano at school assembly in the late 70's pmsl. It was very rousing. Sometimes we did it on 2 pianos at once, me on the bottom end and the other pianist doing the high stuff on the other piano.

Great words and tune! Lovely to hear the traditional organ music too. I do love contemporary worship songs and hymns, but these traditional hymns are amazing too and I love listening to them🥰🥰. Everyone will bow before Almighty God, the King of Kings when he comes again, what a glorious day that will be💖💖!! I do have to watch myself sometimes- that I am so busy looking forward to being with the Lord in the future that I am no earthly use right now 🙏😃

This setting is very close to how I play it, or try to. I suspect the whole idea is to avoid the “first two lines, pause then two beats of silence” to introduce the first verse. It works really well yet two recordings on KZbin have reintroduced the pause! By far the best way is without it!
