I was there in Chepauk, Madras to see Jimmy Mohinder Amarnath make his debut! This was the Christmas 1969 test in Madras. Long before the Boxing Day test began as an annual tradition at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. I was in my ninth standard. I was there for the whole test - D Stand. The stands were built with casuarina poles and wooden planks. It is Jimmy Mohinder Amarnath's debut test; wholly memorable for his two wickets that sent back Stackpole and Chappell.

Mohinder Amaranth is a great example for perseverance and determination. He neutralised challenges from fast bowlers at the time when many would prefer to be at the non strikers end. Dr. Jaishankar’s lessons from the game are commendable.

Very nice speech . I remember hearing live radio commentary of Mohinder taking out Keith stockpile and Ian Chappell!! And then he disappeared for many years, only to make a comeback ! I wish the photographer had shared Mohinder’s & Kapil Dev’s facial reactions , instead of focussing only on Mr Jaishankar . Kudos to him for doing this to Mohinder & showing his different interest. !

One point that needs to highlighted.Facing Holding n Thompson, our batsmen of that era includin Mohinder Amarnath did not have helmet, thigh pad n elbow gaurd for their protection.Yet they faced them n played well.Thank You Jimmy for the grit n determination you displayed. Our country won.

What stands out most to me about Jimmy Amarnath is how he fearlessly faced the furious and fast West Indies bowlers like Michael Holding and Malcolm Marshal and consistently scored throughout the tour. He was the highest run scorer with 598 runs followed by Clive Loyd with 407 runs.

Jimmy, you were always understated hero of the Indian cricket. You gave much more than you got back. You were truly inspirational for any youngster wanting a role model. Thank you Jimmy. You made your father and India proud as an all rounder cricketer and always putting the team & game before self. You showed true grit and determination many top class cricketers could be proud of. Thank you Jimmy.

Wonderful and interesting speech ! Apt and catchy analogies ! Jimmy do deserve your presence at the launch as you both are made of same "steel". The board and selectors played havoc with his careers and he had to prove over and over again to get back in the team, "bunch of jokers" as Jimmy rightly called, but I honestly pray for you to play a long innings for the country.

Sir, brilliant one, which is a surprise from you about cricket & foreign policy. Mohinder one of the greatest cricketers, considering his position & status of cricket in that era. But, he didn't get what he deserved!

Very True, Winning World cup in 83 was like winning World football cup by our today's football team. We won many cups after 83 and may win many in future...but 83 will always remain best of them

So many memories you’ve stirred, Anna… I was at Feroze Shah Kotla ground with my brother, your classmate in AFCS, for that 1969 test with Bill Lawry’s Australia and remember the utter disappointment of seeing GR Viswanath get out on duck. And I remember well that murderous 1976 series in the West Indies, and the Kingston Test where Mohinder Amarnath and the late Anshuman Gaekwad were the only two to stand tall amidst the wreckage of the Indian Batting lineup. That was the first series where there was live commentary over short wave from the Windies, if I recall. We were glued to the radio set in the wee hours… And who can forget 1983. Kudos to Mohinder Amarnath, the man overlooked repeatedly, yet invented, reinvented and brought himself back again and again, the rock around whom the Indian team built its maiden World Cup triumph 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️🇮🇳🇮🇳

Mohindra Amarnath has the guts to speak the truth which is why he called indian selectors as bunch of jokers for omitting him during selections. He was selected even after making that statement. That was his greatness He was a medium pacer who often was known for deceptive pace. He was known for breaking partnership. A new batsmen will take time to understand his pace. He has solid technique as a batsmen and a fine fielder. He is definately a jewel of indian cricket.
