Newly available in Australia, the ATA Arms Turqua series of bolt action rifles is a fantastic option for Australian shooters looking for their first centerfire rifle but wanting something a little bit different from everyone else's rifle. Available for an entry-level price but packed with premium features, it is hard to fault the design, and I've really enjoyed my last 9 months shooting with it. Update, first of all thank you for your professional answer, very nice of you, moving forward here in states we can purchase this firearm in 6.5 creed and 308 win. No 243 are available.Nor are the Walnut stock verison available They will have 18 or 24 inch barrels. You can also choose black synthetic, camo synthetic or dark grey laminated wood. I purchased a 6.5 creedmoor and a 308 with 24 inch barrel and black synthetic stocks. I pulled the pic rail cleaned and reinstalled with lock tite. I used Monstrum Rings to mount my scopes. I took the 308 to the range yesterday and after boresighting I shot a sub moa group at a 100 yards of .75 inches with Federal Non Typical 150 grain ammo. This is not the best ammo on the Market. The results were very impressive, just thought I would share my experience with your site, I will add these rifles are threaded and have an adjustable comb on the stock not bad for 500 american.

Do you have experience with the Winchester xpr? How do you feel they would compare? Here in France the ata, xpr, savage axis and mossberg patriot are the cheapest 243 options. The axis and patriot are out of the question for rust and accuracy reasons respectively. Thank you.

I'm afraid I don't have a whole lot of experience with new Winchester rifles, and I can understand your concerns with the Axis and Patriot, but the Turqua is definitely a great budget option for .243. While I haven't actually taken a synthetic stocked model out shooting yet, I would imagine that both Turqua models have the same recoil lug arrangement inside the stock, which is good for accuracy and consistency. So, while I can't really make a recommendation based on the Winchester XPR, (and I am only assuming that the rifles that are available in France are in the same configuration as those we get in Australia), the Turqua comes with an extra magazine and an optics rail fitted from the factory. That being said; @Winchester, we should talk ;)

Winchester XPR is a tremendous rifle... I own 2. One in .243. Incredibly accurate and bolt is one of the best. Here in Canada they are cheaper than the ATA

A 20 inch barrel., .308 168gr HPBT GGG never gets more than 0.4 MOA. A simple, decently made rifle.

Is 6mm Creed not popular in Australia? Its basically a modernized .243 Win so I wonder why they didnt choose to offer it in that chambering?

6mm Creedmoor is gaining in popularity over here, but not really in entry-level rifles. It's a less-common one to find factory rifles chambered in to begin with, but is common enough in custom and semi-custom builds. To make the most out of the cartridge most I see are found with 1:8" twist rifling too, rather than the 1:10" this one has (which is also easier to make). As ATA are fairly new to manufacturing commercial hunting rifles (I think they do their own barrels, too), it does make sense to me to limit offerings to the more common cartridges, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 6mm Creed being offered in their target and tactical rifles in the not too distant future. Either way though, I would still go with .243 Win over 6mm Creedmoor for a "mainly hunting" rifle, as there is a better range of factory ammo available at reasonable prices. My rifle does pretty well with one particular local factory load, but an equivalent Creed load would cost at least double and isn't as easy to get... I really need to get set up for reloading!

Two questions, I don't use pic rails, I always remove them and install Tally mounts, how and what is the reciever tapped for, for instance Weatherby Vanguard and Howa are tapped for Remington 700 scope mounts and two is the barrel pressed or screwed into the receiver. I cannot get an answer from anybody on these two questions. Thank you

Good questions! I don't think Tally do a mount for this rifle at this stage, and I don't know if it uses a standard kind of scope mount or if it is proprietary; I'll have to check next time I'm in the shop. Either way, I'm sure a competent gunsmith could adapt something that is pre-existing to suit this rifle. As for the barrel, it is threaded into the receiver, but specialist tooling is needed to remove it without potentially damaging the receiver, and said tooling is a bit hard to come by. I am currently getting some custom work done to my rifle and Beaton Firearms in Perth are actually building the tooling required for this, so there might be some more videos coming on this in the new year.

I ordered the black model with the synthetic stock in 308. IF I like it, I will order the 6.5 creed. ​@@rockylavigna5977 Thanks! The synthetic stocks on these feel really high quality; definitely the best in this price point that I have encountered, so I hope it works well for you! It's a shame though that you don't have access to the walnut models - I was looking at a couple of new examples on the shelf last week and they were looking as nice as mine, so their quality hasn't changed at all. You do get the cheek riser though, which should give you a bit more flexibility with scope choice. I recently had a bit of custom work done to this rifle, and it has gone from a nice looking rifle to one that is damn sexy, and I can't wait to take it out for a shoot. Threaded muzzle, blended muzzle brake with seamless join, hand polished and re-blued - it will definitely get another video outlining the changes soon. If you're into chassis rifles and you like your new .308, ATA Arms do a couple of different chassis models that might be good options for your 6.5 creedmoor. We can only get the ALR model in Australia, but it has the same action (wider magazine well for really nice double-stack mag though), heavier barrel with muzzle brake, and the chassis is a bit like an MDT LSS. Fairly well priced too. Anyway, thanks again for the feedback, and I hope your new rifle goes well!

That's awesome! I think this one is a great choice for a first rifle. At this stage, the biggest mag I think you can get is the included 5 round, and these are also available from NIOA. I don't think the 3 round mags are available for separate purchase, but I personally prefer to use my 3 round and would love to have another. That all being said, the magazines aren't that different from a Tikka mag, and I would imagine there might be some aftermarket alternative available in the not too distant future.

I think the Stevens rebranded models available in North America ship with fairly heavy triggers, but they are a user adjustable, 2-stage, 3-lever design with quite a lot of adjustability and a really crisp break. The trigger in mine is probably the best of any of my rifles.

Why would you pay this much when you would buy American for same price if not cheaper or better again sauer 100 or mauser,german precision and quality

The only answer that matters here is "because I like it", and I've had no issues with the precision or quality of my Turqua. Being German or American doesn't inherently make a product better. I sold Ruger Americans for years and they are "fine" and a great basis for custom projects, but straight out of the box they do nothing for me. Mauser M18 is priced at a similar level to the Turqua, and I actually plan on buying one for myself at some point (in a LR chassis package), but the trigger, stock, and metalwork finish are inferior to the Turqua. Sauer 100 is a very sexy rifle that tends to cost a bit more than the Turqua and doesn't come with the pic rail or extra mag. Another potential issue with both the Mauser and Sauer is that many of their more budget-priced models come with heat-pressed barrels, rather than being threaded into the receiver, making some gunsmithing and re-barrelling much more complicated. I'm not sure about the most recent models but I have seen past projects based on Sauer rifles that were needlessly complicated (and likely more expensive) because of this. Buy what you like. I like this.

@@blackstumpballistics5361 Especially when he seems to think that dollars everywhere have the same value. :) It's still cheaper in the USA, even with the current exchange rate taken into account, but then that's what comes of having a mass market that's closer to Europe. I'm an ex-pat aussie who's lived in the USA for 23 years, so unlike the poster I'm in an excellent position to judge the difference, and there's no question which is the better country to live in on any number of levels - Australia! I only stay in the States because of my American wife and kids, but I have a deal in place with the wife that my ashes get taken back home when I eventually kick it. :)

I think that your prices are slightly out of sync: both the Howa and the RAR are cheaper, much cheaper than you mentioned, and both are certainly capable of shooting

I might do a video on the trigger adjustments some day, but don't hold your breath. Being a 3-lever trigger you should be able to adjust both stages separately, but I don't really feel the need to at this stage. My dealer, Beaton Firearms, is in Western Australia, so my prices are accurate. It can cost $400+ to transport a firearm to Perth as we must use approved private couriers, so your local dealer likely has better prices. As for the difference in price between this and a Ruger American at Beaton's; being sub-MOA isn't the only metric here. After you've accounted for the additional price of a model with a heavy barrel, optics rail, and the second magazine, you'd be paying the same for a rifle that, from the factory, feels comparatively crude and has less adjustment in the stock and trigger. And sure, you could compare this rifle to a Howa, but as a Howa owner I can confidently say that they are nothing alike and should not be directly compared. I'll not be addressing your other comments. Thank you for your feedback.

Honestly, I've looked for an answer to this a number of times and haven't found anything yet. I have also seen it written as "ATA" and "Ata", so I don't know for sure that it is an acronym - it might just be a name. It might also be something that has a lot more significance either to Turkish people or in the Turkish language than it does in English. Either way though, I like their guns, and I'm gonna keep looking for an answer.
