0.12 Kirk gave James a WTF, pissed off look to say something was off. Kirk and James both looked like they were rushing to try and keep up to Lars, causing it to sound like crap. The timing and rhythm was off right from the start because Lars drank a couple Monsters and was running away from them. And of course there is no bass to try and keep time off either. The song is not as fast as Lars was playing it here.

Lars was carrying the beat at 230bpm though - that’s significantly faster than it was originally recorded, and even after it was sped up. Kirk and James were clearly lagging behind with James not able to keep up and having to resort to just power chords I don’t see how Lars can be so much faster with the arrangement you speak of. Perhaps somethings faulty somewhere? Or maybe they changed the setup since?

Remember when Metallica used to speed up everything live was not all on Lars 😂 track's like creeping death and Battery was insane live in the late 80's i dont think they have that attack and speed anymore but age and just making live performances more economical the tracks have changed a bunch over the years from relearning or just to make it easier even james is using less down picking. They are still a beast of a band live and really happy these guys are still playing shows. But It's not going to last forever if you haven't already, go and see them before you miss out.

i think what we're hearing here is the closeness of the camera mic to the actual drumset so we hear the actual drum sound from the kit in real time while the speakers that are playing back the guitars are far enough away that the guitars sound delayed. theyre still in time together in the vid they just sound off sync cause of the delay

They don't have the track playing in their ears. They hear a bit of each other. Sometimes there can be a click track but MOP fluctuates constantly inside the measures and the bridge is slower so I guess no click track for Lars on that one hence why he's rushing like crazy without care. It's James & Lars that are the click track of Metallica and if one is of them off, it fucks everything up.

But once he got to the top and established himself (Black Album era) he no longer felt the need to improve. He viewed drumming from a business sense rather than a musical sense which is to keep working and improving on your craft.
