I think that ATARI would've actually ported its vector arcade games to the 7800 back in the day had the system seen more success. Sure, they don't quite capture real vector graphics, but they capture the feel and look close enough in my opinion. For me, the great thing about the plus consoles is that a much wider audience is now going to play these games, which means many more new 7800 and 2600 games down the road. At this point, ATARI should consider launching the 7800+ in Brazil, where 8-bit consoles are still considered current. At the right price, ATARI could bring an affordabke 8-bit system to a country where the SEGA Master System is still king. Exciting times.

The original old school 7800 Asteroids is my go to Asteroids game. I did pre order Asteroids Deluxe and will certainty approach it with an open mind. Thanks again for the review.

Good video! and review of these games for the Atari 7800. I got Space Duel for the Atari 7800 years ago, when it came out! Don't think I need to pick up Asteroids Deluxe now!

Luckily, for those still wanting the original 7800 Asteroids, it’s a fairly common game and shouldn’t be too hard to find or too expensive. I personally enjoy that version a lot, however, I’ve been meaning to pick up a copy of the vector version for a while now. You can still get it on AtariAge, but having it be an official Atari release is very cool plus it’s slightly cheaper and you get the box as well.👍

Asteroids Deluxe is my pick because of the "hidden" game Asteroids included. It has all the same play options as Deluxe and I like the look of your ship better. It is 2 games in one. I would pick this over the 7800 version of Asteroids just because the shield is much better then unpredictable death-dealer hyperspace. Like the extra chase you enemies too.

Thanks for the review, I assumed Space Duel was very different than Asteroids. I somehow missed Space Duel at the arcade. But I wouldn’t mind getting one of these. Just not sure which one yet.

@@Jolt7800 personally if you already have the original 7809 asteroids I'd go with Space Duel. It's just different enough that it feels more unique. Asteroids deluxe feels like the same game except with a shield and vector style graphics. That's just my two cents though.

I posessed most of Bob’s Decresenzo’s Atariage games - all in museum quality condition. One day, I became concerned, that I was drowning in Atari stuff. So I sold off my 7800 collection. Included was an Atari Inc. 7800, (not Atari Corp.) with the box and everything, in perfect condition. I could kick myself!!

@@atarileaf based off everything I've seen to this point they'll be the original release. But there's a chance he could've touched them up. I'll let everybody know if I find that out for sure but I'm almost certain they'll be the original AtariAge releases...

7800 asteroids is still the best home port in my book. I own an original deluxe cabinet and the 7800 DX port looks solid.. Close on sound too

there was Meteorites - by Electra Concepts - on the Atari 5200, when Atari did not publish Asteroids on the system (prototype complete) the crash really changed things ... my guess is 2600 Asteroids sales where already declining (or saturating) by then, 7800 versions only got visual upgrades (no Pokey sounds) they should have moved on to Sinistar & the like (probably could not afford the Licencing by then tho)

Atari really should add stuff like the tethering to these official releases. Especially as most have been out for a long time.(It does include tethering on space duel. Thanks to a commenter here I saw they put that in.)

The Atari website says it'll be added back in for their release. So you may want to keep an eye on the channel as I'll do a comparison when I can get my hands on it!

I’m kind of surprised at some of the games they are releasing alongside the 7800. Including these two. Seems like weird choices. My guess is some heavy hitters are coming up for preorder around November/December and they wanted the sports cart and the weak m network cart and these out first? Idk.

I personally don’t care about those space shooters anyway. And there shouldn’t have been any astroid deluxe either since there was already an astroid game for the 7800, because the deluxe version doesn’t add much value to it. If i want to see a new space shooter game, well let somebody port radar scope to the 7800 because that game is awesome and unique in it’s own way. Also since nintendo don’t care about that game ever since.

I like Asteroids Deluxe the arcade version, same with Space Duel. I don't like these versions really, I would play them, won't be buying them.
