What a cool setup - thanks for showing the comparison to stock video.

thanks for the update mate. Good to see this. I got 6 ataris, haven't done anything to them yet - but s-video mod. So nice to see options.

The noise you get on the right can be removed in the geometry menu and change the max width / horizontal offset

Btw I’m just now learning about the Sophia 2 and now wondering if I might be better off going that route and converting the dvi to hdmi. I am happy with the rgbtohdmi but it has some minor random glitching and noise. Does the Sophia 2 have the same pixel perfect resolution? Would you recommend the Sophia 2 over the lumacode/rgbtohdmi solution? One thing to note is this is a laptop all in one build and I want the smallest footprint as possible to back everything inside.

@@sideburn Sophia is a nice solution and basically on a par with the perfectly crisp picture you get from Lumacode/RGB2HDMI, and will hook up to an HDMI port with a passive DVI to HDMI cable. Audio is the problem, since there's still no digital audio source to mix in with the Sophia DVI signal, although as I understand it, PokeyMAX 4 will provide digitial audio which I assume can somehow be wired up to a DVI in accordance with the audio over DVI protocol. Other than that, you can install a headphone jack to carry mono or stereo audio, or just pick off mono audio from the legacy monitor jack.

@@flashjazzcat no audio with rgbtohdmi either. I have a separate amplifier so that’s a non issue. Just wondering if I should fork out the cash to switch from rgbtohdmi to Sophia or not.

@@flashjazzcat this is a laptop build everything will be internal and a flat panel lcd attached.

Could you tell us later how you would have proceeded with the addition of sound?
@flashjazzcat7 ай бұрын
The owner didn't ask for any special provision; presumably he's just taking audio from the legacy monitor jack. Other than that, a 3.5mm headphone jack could easily be wired up and attched to a suitable spot on the motherboard at the rear of the machine.

Do you have a link to the RGB2HDMI device?
@flashjazzcat7 ай бұрын
Good point - thanks. I forgot the links on Sunday. I'll add the GTIAdigitizer links shown in the video, but I have no links for RGB2HDMI aside from what I just Googled, including the Github repo: github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI

On my channel I had lots of issues with an RGBTOHDMI and a STFM. I was trying to capture 12 bits for hi red mono. I had to drop to 3 bits and it was great. I got some additional boards from a different Atari fan source. Just worked. So sometimes one RGBTOHDMI is just "odd". But the video quality is great.

@@stephenhookings1985 I've heard a few tales of GTIAdigitizer and RGB2HDMI both being difficult to set up, but fortunately - or perhaps unfortunately - everything just worked in this instance. As mentioned in the video: I could really use a stock RGB2HDMI (despite the fact I don't NEED one) in order to make a comprehensive video about it.

In the USA Texelec has them. In EU there's the MCE2HDMI which is the same in an enclosure from Serdashop.
