The way the caps are connected (4 in series and parallel) they have in total 250 Farad at max 10.8 Volts (if voltage is higher will damage the caps shortly).Now, the total storage for this 250 F is 14580 Joules and that is Watt/second and that means it stores 14.58 KW for one second only. If you divide 14580 Watt divided by 3600 seconds(one hour) = 4.5 W/h watt per hour. So, if you power a LED of 4.5 W it will run for one hour. That's it. Not a lot of power :) But it may be able to start a car... you should try that

Yes I thought I was miss counting but it does seem a bit shy of the 12vs he was talking about, Also in an automobile you would want a some kind of extra value capability for any spikes that may happen from the charging system, without it I suspect but I'm no expert on these matters but without it, I suspect it could cause a burn out of the caps, which could do a lot of damage to any vehicle. There is another guy using 50v 4700 uf caps and only charging them to 12vs which would allow a huge buffer for his caps to operate, less likely to burst or over heat.

Capacitors will leak. The voltage would probably drop 1 volt each day. Although it can deliver large current for a short time, the voltage drops as current drains. So this setup can only function as a small capacity battery which cannot keep its voltage for a few seconds or a few days. You can use it as a car battery if you drive the car everyday. But if your dome light is left on then your car may not start the next morning. One more thing: you need 5 in series if you charge it to 12V, or 6 in series if you use it in car (around 14V).
@rathnamalasp10976 жыл бұрын
@Jerry Chu, I had the same doubt which you had explained here. Still I have no clarity on this. First thing is, is this setup will work? Will it produce 12V? Or it has the capability to store that 12v at least for a day? Second thing, can we use this to "jump start" our cars? When the car is standby in parking for one month. If it can be used in cars, then can we replace the battery??

You noticed that too!! There's one caveat: 2 strings of five capacitors drops the total down to 200 farads, allowing a maximum of 13.5 volts. Putting six in series to keep them within their ratings if used with a 6 cell lead acid battery, drops the capacitance down to 166.66666.... farads. That allows up to 16.2 volts, an appropriate margin for the charging range of a car battery.
@jerryfrcc6 жыл бұрын
@@rathnamalasp1097 For 12V you need to connect 5 of these capacitors in series, and be careful not to let the voltage to go above 13V. You better use 6 to be safe. Capacitors cannot replace battery. Except that Ah is NOT a unit of energy! 0.83Ah at 12V (which it will not be because it’s a discharging capacitor) is like 10Wh. An AA battery holds 2Ah. Is that a huge amount of “energy”? At 1.5V (pretty constant, cause it’s a real battery), that’s 3Wh. WHAT? Are we concluding that this rig only holds the energy of three AA batteries? No, it holds less (because of the decaying voltage of the capacitor bank).

The guy needs to take a soldering class. he "paints" on the solder, rather than letting the joint heat up and letting the solder flow. I also don't think he is using rosin core solder.

Honestly it hurt a little when he powered the motor with different numbers of capacitors. If he at least used them all at once all the time, they would have a chance to just loose their charge after a few days and balance out...

المكثفات فيها خطورة كبير جدا التعامل معها يكون بحذر شديد ممكن تعمل علي صدمة كهربائية شديدة

@engineer49066 жыл бұрын

@engineer49066 жыл бұрын
