I realise this is a different type of upload for me, so apologies for the unexpectedness of it! I wanted to tell you all about these game re-releases, just in case you weren't aware. When it comes to anything Gust or Atelier, I literally can't stop rambling, so this video was EXTREMELY difficult to make and cut down. I hope you like it!
NOTE: BONUS Soundtrack Review Video here: • Atelier Dusk DX Trilog...
DISCLAIMER: All game footage, art and music is the property of Gust, Koei Tecmo, Koei Tecmo Europe and Koei Tecmo America. I do not claim to have any ownership over it; this video is non-profit and purely for educational and informational purposes. Thank you so much to Koei Tecmo Europe for the free review codes.

Of course, please check your local digital stores (America, etc) as the price will no doubt be cheaper. And you can buy games individually, if you only want one right now! These games are art in my opinion and well worth the price.
There was also a physical Switch version available on PlayAsia, but it might be sold out by now.

After playing Dusk, Mysterious and Ryza (2 games) My favorite is still Atelier Ayesha, what a game !!! But I must say that Atelier Shallie's Synthesis system was the most easiest for me to understand. Great Review!

Now im on Shallie. This trilogy kicked off my adventure with the series and I plan to go back to Arland starting at Totori working my way through Mysterious and then Ryza as well once I'm done with Shallie. I've been interested in the atelier dusk trilogy games for a while and i was deciding which one to buy first and I've decided to start with atelier shallie first for the nintendo switch, then I'll get atelier ayesha and atelier escha & logy later on. I'm also thinking about getting the atelier mysterious trilogy games and the atelier arland trilogy games for the nintendo switch too. I also really love the art style of the dusk trilogy games too.

Thank you for such a loving review of the Dusk trilogy! I only dabbled in Atelier games here and there until finally finding Rorona Plus on sale one day and trying it out. I instantly loved and played the crap out of it, but it was a while before I took a chance on Totori, and from there...it was a landslide! Totori was good, and Meruru was just a grand slam, so I was very excited to get into Dusk, and wow....what a surprise! The complete change in tone, and the soundtrack that hit like Ghibli films just blew me away. Ayesha will probably always be my favorite Atelier game of all time. Period! Escha and Logy I didn't like as much, for a variety of reasons. Didn't like how Marion took on sort of a ball-buster role, and the Lincas story didn't really do much for me. I also just generally could not get into either of the main characters. I felt that Shallie was better, with better music, too, but the quickness of the rotating camera often gave me motion sickness, so I found that I'd have to limit play intervals, which kinda interrupted the flow....Now I've started Sophie, and don't like the rotating camera movement any more than I did with Shallie. I wonder if there is any control over this with the Ryza games (if and whenever I get to those...can't say I'm the biggest fan of the shameless selling out with Ryza's thicc-ness, so I'll likely wait it out until new versions are released or I can find them at a slashed price). That's another thing I really respect about the Dusk series - they didn't need to rely on T&A to sell the games. The characters are who they are, and they're lovable even without streetwalker garb and fat hanging out. I guess as a female player, that stuff is kind of a turn off. ;) Wonderful review of an excellent series! Thank you!!!

Not sure when I'd bother to buy my first Atelier game, but if I started somewhere, I'd want to start with Atelier Ryza 1. Do you think the story and characters for Ryza 1 fall significantly behind these games? Why, if so? And have you played Ryza 2? Seeing how good Ryza 2 looks on a PS5 really made me eager to buy it, lol. But do you think Ryza 2 builds upon Ryza 1 in such a way that it solves any problems you had with the story or characters?
@zoozbuh
@zoozbuh 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I haven’t played Ryza 2 yet, so I can’t comment on that (although it’ll be in my hands within the next few days, I hope). I don’t think Ryza 1’s story was particularly “bad”, just felt more serious and rushed compared to the Dusk trilogy in my opinion. In Dusk, for every major serious plot beat, there’s always a ton of character events and lighthearted scenes going on to balance out the tone. I felt that Ryza didn’t have that as much. There were sidequests, but only with random boring villagers, not the main cast! On paper, the story is better in Ryza but without the events to make me care about the cast, it carried less weight. I’ve heard that Ryza 2’s story is very hit and miss too. Basically the story in these 2 games tries to be more ambitious than what the Atelier series is known for...... but by focusing on that main plot, we don’t get to know the characters as deeply, so it feels a bit hollow and rushed. Just my opinion and you might feel completely differently. In fact, who knows, you might prefer Ryza’s storytelling! I hope everything I said made sense 👍🏽
@GlibbyGloyper
@GlibbyGloyper 3 жыл бұрын
@@zoozbuh Yeah, I really appreciate the input! Small interactions to build the the world really do make an otherwise simple story feel very satisying and emotional. The Atelier series isn't a priority for me (time reasons; I'm sure we're all adults here playing as little anime girls), but I would probably try Ryza first and if it blows me away -- well, actually, maybe specifically if it DOESN'T blow me away, I'll keep the recommendation for the Dusk series in mind. Thanks. Hopefully you really enjoy Ryza 2 if you get around to it.

Saying the 3 games in the Dusk trilogy have more character development than one Ryza game is a bit strange. It doesn't really make sense to compare an entire trilogy to one game. Especially since you're playing the DX versions of all three Dusk games compared to a vanilla Ryza game. I do agree that Dusk is fantastic though. Ayesha was my first game and it's been my favorite so far. I haven't played Ryza since at this point I just wait for DX versions to come out and get them on sale.
@zoozbuh
@zoozbuh 3 жыл бұрын
I’m glad to hear you love Ayesha and I strongly recommend you continue to play more games in the trilogy and series in general!! If you already liked Ayesha so much, you won’t regret it ☺️👍🏽🙌🏽 Thanks for watching btw! Re: the other point you made: I didn’t mean to compare the entire trilogy to the first Ryza game; I was talking more about the general style and approach Ryza took in terms of character events. I.e. there were VERY few of them and we barely got to know the main characters outside of story-heavy scenes. Now, after having played Ryza 2, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they changed this. There were LOTS of moments of character development for the main cast which made me happy. At the time of making this video, of course I didn’t know this… but I stand by the fact that Ayesha (first game in this trilogy) had a more character-driven approach and more “character” event scenes from the very start, even if we’re just comparing that one game to Ryza. Again, it doesn’t matter that it was “vanilla” Ryza in my eyes. Character development (for an Atelier game, specifically) is something that SHOULD be in the base game imo.

Regretting not choosing this trilogy instead of Mysterious - I have always ignored the Atelier series as the artwork to me comes off as extremely sexist "jiggly boob" crap - its pretty but no normal looking female characters or clothes. After finally playing a couple I do love the games but still hate the design of the female characters - I'd rather have a female with jeans and a sweatshirt than short skirts and bouncy boobs - that is just so insultingly designed.
@zoozbuh
@zoozbuh 3 жыл бұрын
Wow, this comment makes me really sad to read. Atelier has NEVER been focused on “jiggly boob sexist crap” and that only started with Ryza. (I’m not counting DLC costumes as that’s prevalent in almost every Japanese series and isn’t representative of the games themselves.) You seem to have a misconception about what kind of series this is. Having one or two characters with big boobs doesn’t mean the series is suddenly some gross perverted romp (far from it). The games overall, including their character designs, are pretty wholesome and sweet, so I urge you to take another look at the games BEFORE Ryza. Just sad to hear you have that image of the series!
@zoozbuh
@zoozbuh 3 жыл бұрын
P.s. “I’d rather have a female with jeans and sweatshirt” Well okay in that case I don’t think you’ll find a single Japanese game with those kind of character designs. These games are fantasy and the characters are designed to be vibrant and eye-catching. Hell, I can’t even think of a single western-developed game with those kind of character designs either because there... probably isn’t much of an audience for that. I don’t think characters having big breasts or short skirts makes it inherently sexist- a LOT of girls play these games and love the chara designs. Sorry if this seems aggressive, but I’m surprised that out of ALL game series’, you had these complaints about Atelier 😂 Is there also a problem with the male characters like Lent, Clifford or David (from Lulua) that have their six-pack abs on display?
@Raphtor13
@Raphtor13 3 жыл бұрын
@@zoozbuh You are right about the JRPGs but I still play them but tend to avoid those with female lead. The Tales and Dragon Quest games don't bother me as much. Now that I have tried an Atelier game, I found that I love the games except for the character design. I suppose the design of the male characters could be offensive to guys but they do not bother me. And yes I do get that it's a small complaint about a genre that I really love but it is the reason I have until now avoided these games...until now.
@zoozbuh
@zoozbuh 3 жыл бұрын
@@Raphtor13 Okay, if the character design doesn't gel with you, not like I can change that, so fair enough. My point was I definitely think you misjudged the series a little bit. I guess the big difference is Atelier has always featured female characters heavily, which is a refreshing change from the norm, for a lot of people (but I guess not for you.) ANYWAY I'm glad you love/enjoy the games, that's good to hear! :)
