@@user-qd1pb3lc6b Right? They really should just drop ryza and continue making the mysterious sequel. I was bored out of my mind in Ryza 2 because I really don't care about the NPC stories and the ruins 'puzzle' (the word 'puzzle' being a huge stretch because it's basically putting square block in the square hole etc). Sophie 2 (and all of Mysterious) has none of that BS and just focuses on the playable characters.

Atelier Iris has an "Atelier Iris 2" (and "Atelier Iris 3") and Atelier Ryza has an "Atelier Ryza 2" Usually the games are in trilogy, so Atelier Totori is the second game in the Arland trilogy (Rorona -> Totori -> Meruru -> Lulua being added 10 years after the last game in the trilogy), Escha&Logy is the second game in the Dusk trilogy (Ayesha -> Escha&Logy -> Shallie) and Atelier Firis is the second game in the Mysterious Trilogy (thus making Sophie the 4th game in the.. well not trilogy anymore, but chronologically it seems like it's Sophie -> Sophie 2 -> Firis -> Lydie&Suelle, but in the order of releases it's Sophie -> Firis -> Lydie&Suelle -> Sophie 2).

Wow I didn't expect someone would actually delete my comment to remove my reply, and then repost their original comment. But I'm also a bit stupid, so I'll relay my criticisms of their views: You don't have to put down another series to appreciate another. Especially if they have different atmospheres, stories, and purposes. Why not appreciate that we have two great JRPG series with different (but equally awesome) approaches to their music? Of course, you can make an argument why one sounds better than another--but granted that they deleted their own comment, I'm assuming they're not willing to discuss further. As for the song itself, I like how it maintains a whimsical feeling, all the while retaining a sense of epicness. I think this combination hasn't been explored as much in JRPGs and reminds me a lot of the Mario & Luigi series.
@ngikjegjangbiuea2 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, what was the original argument? I've seen two that seem negative (one to this OST, and one to another game) so I think I know which one you're on about. Still, my mind is just going to lock onto this until I get an answer, haha
@LegamSSF2 жыл бұрын
@@ngikjegjangbiuea It was just a single sentence saying this game's battle themes > Xenoblade's battle themes without much rationale / basis for such a claim. I found it offputting to blindly hate on something else in order to love something. But being a Xenoblade fanboy, I took offense and overreacted lol. Like, it's cool that they have an opinion; it's not cool that they aren't willing to back it up when confronted (and resort to "erasing" the conversation). So yeah hope I answered your question. Sorry for the long response :P

@@saitoXamaterasu I mean, that is only the problem in the original; DE, 2 and 3 all are much better in that regard. @StarMiners04162 жыл бұрын
@@kkm861 Ignoring people who have opinions different to yours is NOT a healthy way to engage with other people. That being said, I'm mixed on this OST tbh. It's mechanically very nice - there is nice sound balancing between the various intstruments, there's a very distinct level of "energy" in each song where it's needed, the world themes try to be very atmospheric, and the more specific themes (battle, alchemy, character motifs) are unique to each situation. However, if I look back and compare it to other Atelier games, I feel this OST isn't very memorable - the "effect" on listeners is not there. I cannot find a distinct identity that makes this OST feel unique to Atelier Sophie 2, and the themes are easily forgettable. For example, if you throw me a song like "Spring Wind Skylark" or "Scenery of the Town ~ Night" or "Spring Breeze Polska", I can immediately identify these with Atelier Sophie just by listening to them. If you throw me "Syphleed" or "Undine" or "Invitation Flower", I can recognize them from Atelier Ayesha. Take "Escaping from the Crowd" or "The Mysterious Paintings", and I can tell they're from Atelier Lydie and Suelle. They all left a distinct impression and identity that makes them unique to their games' setting, story, and/or characters. And vice-versa, many of these songs come to mind when I think about these games in my head. Granted, not ALL songs from these games are immediately recognizable and identifiable with their games, but a good chunk of them are. When I think of Atelier Sophie 2, I honestly cannot think of any themes except for maybe the main town theme (because I'm running through it half the game). The game doesn't give you enough time with these themes as well - battles get ridiculously easy after a while, meaning your exposure to the battle themes are limited; you're more likely to use the fast-travel to get to intended destinations, meaning less exposure with map themes. This is a problem of the game trying to seriously optimize the gameplay to be as quick and task-efficient as possible. There's no central theme or rhythm that permeates through all the songs either, meaning that there's no cohesion between the themes either (for reference, Atelier Lydie and Suelle as well as Atelier Shallie did these very well). Atelier Sophie 2's themes may have the technical skill and mechanical consistency built by prior experience, but they haven't exactly captured their ability to be memorable.
