🪴 Renovating in Italy? We are architects! Hire us for YOUR project: linktr.ee/maviatelier
We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.
Follow our journey as we turn this old stone house into a beautiful home 😊.

Oh my goodness, the pattern of the tiles is just gorgeous! The love that you two have for this emerging project - for your beautiful home - is so apparent 😊. Perhaps after complete drying and cleaning, a sealant to the tiles would stop the saltpeter bleeding through? Also the transition tile pattern separating kitchen from living room is just lovely! Absolutely love your videos 😊

We will protect the tiles but not seal them completely as water and vapour must have a way out 😉

If you find that your vinegar was unsatisfactory at removing the white film from the tiles in your kitchen I would recommend using Muratic acid. That is what brick mason's use to clean brick after they are done. It works amazingly well. I used it on my pizza oven. Sprayed it with the acid, scrubbed it with a brush and then washed it off with water. In your case you could just use a mop and some water after the acid wash and scrub.

Thank you for the tip! We will try if the vinegar doesn't show good results ☺️

I’d be afraid of mopping muriatic onto un-grouted tiles that the excess would go down in the cracks and effected the lime bonding to the screed. I don’t know that would happen…but I’d be afraid of it.

As long as you are not using a copious amount of water, but just a moistened mop. No problema.@@suzanneperron549

Efflorescence from the salts in the lime mortar. It roses up through the wet terracotta tile then the salt settles on top. Muriatic acid is the best solution and quite harmless to work with. It requires rinsing with clean water. Perhaps take it from your cistern which will not be so hard.

The pattern you chose expanded the look of the room and clever way of extending it into the kitchen was perfect. And the foreman just had to step into the glue as you were setting tiles. lol. A beautiful job.

Being that the tiles are NOT perfectly perfect, actually makes the floor look more authentic. It emphasizes just how difficult your job was making, how much you've done so far, all the more beautiful. All I can say is, STUNNING! I am a viewer watching from Ohio, US.

Beautiful! The transitional section is a really lovely way to separate the two rooms. It makes sense that this last room will take longer since it appears to be the biggest room in your house, and the pattern is GORGEOUS! You're both doing such a great job! Blessings and keep going! 🙏💞👍Thank you for sharing and inspiring us all ~

A bientôt !

That Herringbone pattern looks gorgeous! I am also a big fan of turning the tiles to a 45 from the kitchen to divide the space. Small details like that make the floor look more elegant. Be sure to seal the tiles after you finish the floor to prevent mold, there is a glaze and sealer available for that. As always, excellent work!

Bonjour !

Wow so cool! I particularly like how creative you handle spontaneous decisions and that you follow the logic of your materials rather than being confined to perfect solutions, e.g. 22:54 the transition not sitting in the center of the wall, which you would try to achieve if you had everything planned beforehand but this way it creates a liveliness together with the old stone walls which is extraordinary.
