📐Renovating in Italy? Hire us for YOUR project: linktr.ee/mavi...
We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.
Follow our journey as we turn this old stone house into a beautiful home 😊.

Please remember: You have to wash the grout out always in a DIAGONAL direction. If you do it straight, you will wash the grout OUT. And there will be different hights in your grouts and dirt can stay there much easier and it is much more difficult to clean. Try it out and you will see the difference. :O)

It's looking very beautiful! Yes, it is important that you protect the terracotta, as it is a kitchen, fat or oil falling on the terracotta will permanently stain it.

Adding color to the grout to blend with the terracotta tiles -- by adding terracotta powder -- is GENIUS! It looks superb -- so rich, earthly, and sun-drenched. Bien joué! Ben fatto!

It’s a lot of work to grout those tiles but they are so beautiful. When I watched old videos of other renovations people would apply the grout over the tiles let it dry but then it was almost impossible to get the grout out. They would need an abrasive machine to grind the grout and that not easy work. Plus the nest is ridiculous. So I’m glad you guys have a great technique. Well done. It looks really beautiful.

We used terracotta on our hearth but we sealed the tiles before they were laid. It was recommended to use boiled linseed oil, a very traditional treatment. We sealed the tiles again after grouting. Sealing first protected the tiles from staining and 5 years on they still look good. Love your grout solution. ❤

So nice! And of course you can use muriatic acid too for lime cleaning. Way more powerful than vinegar so a light touch is necessary. I've used it for many things, including spraying brick walls to remove efflorescence.

I am just wondering, why you have not cleaned the tiles before you layed it - outside. Concerning the mold: I recomend you to hire a " Ozon genaerator" for some days. This is the only save way to get rid of mold. A high ozon conentration in you home for mor ethan 3 day can secure the result. HAve experience myself with mold and ozon treatement. Regards Alex

I found myself wondering if a very thin mason's "pointe" could be used to press the mortar down into the joint. The joints look like they might be wide wnough. It might help getting less motar on the tile surface. But what you're doing iseems to be working well so perhaps not worth the extra effort. Looks really, really good. I hope you're taking a moment every day to step back and see how much you've accomplished.

Well, I am familiar with the hydrochloric acid treatment. I once used it to remove mortar and lime from tiles in a car workshop (1998). In Germany, this is called 'absäuern'. However, these were non-slip tiles that had been laid using the 'thick bed method', i.e. without joint spacing. The tiles were also sealed and not porous. This allowed us to 'acidify' the tiles with a high concentration of hydrochloric acid and then neutralize them with running water (drains were available). Of course, this is very different to terracotta. And .... we could/had to work with machines due to the large area (900m²).

Hello again, back to the tiles again 😂but you are almost at the end and you did have a bit of a break …. You really did a lovely job with them, and grouting colour is perfect, sets the tiles off beautifully so that the overall appearance is so harmonious. Quite interesting how the pigment is derived from crushed old bricks. Truly repurpose and reuse. It will be nice to see your kitchen take shape once you are able to put the fixtures in. There are so many pieces to a kitchen and as you said they do take up a lot of space when they are spread out waiting to be installed. Will you be doing the installation yourselves? Lovely view from your terraces at the beginning of the video. Have a wonderful week.

@ateliermavi
@ateliermavi Жыл бұрын
Ciao!!
