I like how UP and SP trains have that rrrr before the horn honks

The storage box as stated below on the CR unit is in fact a cab signal indication equipment box that was used on PRR lines. The other features are the difference in fuel tanks. The CR has the larger 5,000 gallon tank that gives away it's EL heritage that they utilized from non-stop runs from NY to Chicago, and have two extra braces on top. Also, the radiator fans are low-profile to clear overhead catenary lines when traveling the NEC and other electrified areas. The horn is low-profile also for catenary clearances.

One thing he missed was that the whole roof line is lowered on the Conrail unit as thats how the Erie Lackawanna ordered them. Its not just the fans, but the air filter hatch and the stack between the radiator fans and the dynamics. Thats the sort of detail that most companies say "close enough" to, and neglect.

The 6657 was a former ERIE LACKAWANNA 3672 them csx 8973 but the main reason to tell it was a former EL unit is the horn placement and the fuel tank the EL had all type of units from EMD or GM then GE ALCO and etc but the horns gives the railroad away but on this unit its also the the tanks and some details and i want you to know the fun history of the unit and keep up the great work!!!

The storage compartment on the Conrail unit is actually a signal box from the PRR days.

Awesome review! It was so good that it impressed me well enough that I went out and bought two Santa Fe SD45-2's with sound. Very Nice!!

I remember years ago in a model train shop when one of the employees said sound will never sound that good for HO.

The box in the front of the engineer is a signal box which conrail used on the former northeast railroad lines they taken over bassic purpose was to indicate what the next signal be the PRR was the first to use this technology

Beautiful locomotives James! My Genesis Santa Fe SD45-2 dates back to 2011, just after Athearn switched from MRC to Soundtraxx and it's still one of the better running locomotives I have! That being said, the Tsunami 2 sounds WAY better! One last thing, even though it really goes without saying, if you decide to haul long trains with this locomotive, it would be a good idea to swap out the McHenry couplers for Kadees as the McHenry couplers just will not hold up under that kind of strain! Just a word of wise to any newcomers that happen to buy this locomotive! Enjoyed the video, take care!

Not to mention longer coupler, for sharp curves. Those McHenry's aren't great through any s curves, or sharp ones. It will turn a car on it's side. Not fun.

@chuckythedoll4815 plus they're prone to failure under high stress loads too, found that out the hard way!

Overall, gorgeous models. This BN guy might foray into MRL just to have a pair of these SD45-2 units. But I find it interesting that they put on all that road specific detail, but left off the lift rings on the long hood. I did a double take when you panned to the long hood and it appeared not to have them. Thanks for the video!

Great review James, I just bought a pair of the bicentennials, and for my first Genesis models, I am very happy. Take it easy. And best of luck on the house hunt.

Nice review! I have a couple of Athearn Genesis GP39-2s and I always tend to mute the loco when turning on the beacon, as well... Odd. Anyway, I like the Santa Fe details, you might have convinced me to pick up a couple of those! Thanks for sharing!

Nice review again James! Those are excellent engines, like you said the Santa Fe one just needs to be broken in. Also it looked like the bell was bent inwards on the SF unit.

Hello everyone. I am a new subscriber to this Channel. And I am looking to get into the train hobby. When I buy my first EMD train set. Will I be needing to buy a different control? It sounds like he has a control with so many different button for different sounds. Thank you so much
