Insert eye roll? Over a murder accusation? How is that a Christian way to respond? This is a serious accusation responded too with sensitivity. You should be ashamed of yourself.

This is an excellent example of the blatant hypocrisy among loud, proud Calvinists. It would appear their mindset is the end justifies the means, hence their support for political candidates whose character is reprehensible. Paul was very clear about this in‭‭ I Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭12, “And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you."‬ But, you'll typically find those who cling to Calvinism regard the words of men as authoritative -- not Scripture.

Servetus' view was actually nearly identical to pre-Nicene "orthodox" fathers such as Tertullian, Irenaeus and Hippolytus. It may have appeared to be subordinationist and even adoptionist or Nestorian, but then so did some of those earlier teachers. Servetus in the end corrected even that when he confessed the Word was coterminous with Christ. But both the Reformers and Catholics would only accept the post-Nicene (Athanasian/Augustinian, actually!) formula of perfect three-way symmetry of "Persons" (which was not recognized by scripture or the pre-Origen Church). Yes, the man sorely lacked tact (it's hard to even read his story), but the real problem was the corruption of power in the Church, and the Reformers were just as bad as the Catholics they had just broken away from! They just replaced the pope with their own lesser authority, and persecuted the anabaptists as well, and they were 'orhodox' trinitarian! But yes, Calvin did still want him dead, just for a different view of the Godhead, and actually, I see Christians condemning him for this (and his "limited atonement" and "unconditional election/reprobation") more than atheists! So atheist opposition is no excuse for justifying him!

Nope not at all - you are a believer in Arminianism - which is pure heresy. Calvin was a man of God - and he is with God to this day.

@@AllSven Calvin, in a 1561 letter to Marquis Paet, said "Honour, glory, and riches shall be the reward of your pains; but above all, do not fail to rid the country of those scoundrels [Anabaptists and others] , who stir up the peoples to revolt against us. Such monsters should be exterminated, as I have exterminated Michael Servetus the Spaniard. " He also wrote about Servetus "Let Baudouin abuse me as long as he will, provided that, by the judgment of Melanchthon, posterity owes me a debt of gratitude for having purged the Church of so pernicious a monster. " He doesn't sound repentant in either instance.

For anyone who has gotten this far a very informative read is the book by Zweig - The Right To Heresy. Calvin was worse that the Catholics when it came to anyone disagreeing on any point with him. He said that if Servetus ever came to Geneva he wouldn’t let him leave alive:/ Joseph Stalin had the same heart Calvin had - Calvin was a wolf in sheep’s clothes. May heaven spare us from treacherous and dictatorial pastors and church leaders who speak the gospel but don’t live it 😢

Then according to Calvin, the meaning of repent (Metanoia) = A change of mind totally is incorrect, what is the point of saying you need to change your mind which represents a free choice from unbelief to belief but according to point one of Calvinism total depravity that than nullifies what Jesus and John the Baptist was asking us to do, so than this makes Calvinism not make sense. What about Adam and Eve God clearly gave them a free choice if God (and he knew already) they were going to fall than did he already predestined them to go to Hell before they fell OR did God choose them to be saved and the rest of Mankind to choose who will go to heaven or hell???, I am really doing my head in just trying to think about this which would say to me Calvin was preaching heresy...Free Grace of Jesus Christ is indeed free and simple! “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day”. John 6:40

Calvinists aren't Christians, Calvinism is a Gnostic Manichean doctrine brought into the church by Augustine the predator. Of course Calvin being a murderer is important since he's the one that resurrected this ancient history. It's incredibly bizarre to see you defending a murderer with the "it was a different time back then" line. The bible has always condemned murder. John 8:44 "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him." Calvin was begotten of the Devil and you are begotten of Calvin.

Yes. Calvin agreed with the burning at the stake of Servetus. Deal with it Mr. Wretched and accept this fact. John Calvin was not perfect. The doctrines of grace are still true.

My understanding is that it is not atheists who raise the case of Servetus in criticism of J Calvin, but rather Christians who have seen through the horrendous doctrinal errors of Calvinism. The argument from historical context does not excuse godless behaviour in the name of dealing with so called heresy. By their fruits you know them.

Killing people for heresy/apostasy was quite common. Aquinas also believed in death for apostasy and heresy. Both Catholics and Protestants put people to death for heresy historically

No, his name was Saul before his conversion to Jesus Christ. He did those acts when he was still with the religious leaders who basically outlawed the Christians. When the Son of God called him to the faith in Acts 9, he became a defender of Christianity that he once persecuted in ignorance. Also, God changed his name to Paul after his conversion.
