I was in Athens a week ago and I visited the Panathenaic stadium. I absolutely love it (made of marble). Definitely worth visiting.

I was but a little kid weeks short of first grade when the Olympics came back to Greece. Needless to say, I was hyped. In my opinion, Athens 2004 was the best. Does anybody remember that special Vangelis promotional video? That was amazing. Somebody should commission Yuki Kajiura to promote Tokyo 2020.

Every Olympiad I get curious about what additional prizes are handed out to the medalists along with the medals themselves. Athens 2004 had laurel wreaths placed on the athletes’ heads (very Greek), Rio 2016 handed out these wooden sculptures of the Olympic logo and PyeongChang 2018 and Beijing 2022 both incorporated the mascots into the venue ceremony prizes. In PyeongChang, the prize was a plushie of Soohorang the white tiger with streamers attached to it while the Beijing prize is Bing Dwen Dwen with a laurel wreath around it. Now I’m curious about Paris 2024. Eiffel Tower figurines perhaps? The mascots haven’t even been picked out for those games yet, but a previous Olympiad taking place in France did. Keep in mind that this olympics ignited the greek euro crisis. Nevertheless, this olympics showed the best cultural presentation ever, even the Beijing 2008 one.

The olympics were just a drop in the ocean of our public debt. We joined the eurozone without meeting the criteria for it (and everybody in europe knew it and gave us the green light, knowing full well what was about to happen)

Oi? Você viu a olimpíada errado. O visual de Rio foi completamente marcante, eu olho as competições e o verde particular dos cenários construídos pros jogos ficam extremamente evidentes, aliás nenhuma outra olimpíada usou um verde tão vivido como cor em cenário antes

So the Greek Olympic ceremony was actualy planned in the UK?? I was always convinced it was put together by greeks and greek creativity..I was wrong..

Dimitris Papaioannou (Greek) was the director, choreographer and it was all his vision. What the UK offered was the technology to accomodate his vision.

It was done by a Greek director who also did the Baku 2015 games, Most of the work was done by Greece.

These Olympics were a mess. The olympics had started and the preparations were still underway and mostly never finished. And it basically helped add to the country’s financial debt.
