This ceremony was broadcast and recorded in both 4x3 standard definition and widescreen high definition, which is available in full on the Olympic Channel. Some scenes could not be broadcast in HD, so it's worth seeing both versions!

Salt Lake 2002 and Athens 2004 was the first Winter and Summer Olympic games of the 21st Century and of the 3rd Millennium. The year 2000 when Sydney, Australia hosted a Summer Olympics was the last year of 20th Century and 2nd Millennium.

I loved this ceremony so much! The placards during the parade of nations were stunning and the music fabulous. I loved how Australia, the USA, the Unified Korean team and the Greek team had cameras on their placards - but we only saw footage from the Australian and the USA placards. Would that footage ever be viewable? It would have been magical to see the Korean team from it. 😭
