Hello , Acron (Άκρον ) means edge , Polis (Πόλις) means city and is is also where the word police in every language comes from . Also the word Metro (the underground) it’s short from the word Metropolis which derives from the Greek word mitropolis (Μητρόπολις) and it means mother city . The athletic brand Nike comes from the name of Athena Nike ( Αθηνά Νίκη = victorious Athina ) and the sign comes from the wing of one of the goddess’s statue , most probably the one that was found in Samothraki , although it’s being said that it was drowned because the employee who designed it saw the goddess in her sleep . If I may , I would suggest that one day you would visit the small but very interesting museum of "Ancient Greek technology" in Kolonaki ( the "fancy" area of the center of Athens and where you could easily have your coffee-drinks or lunch later on . It is very possible! Yes, it is very possible that one of the most recognizable Logos around the world is inspired by the Victory of Samothrace and we will explain why. The Nike logo was created in 1971 by graphic designer Caroline Davidson at the request of Phil Knight, who had decided at the time to create his own line of running shoes for runners. Caroline had even been paid a paltry $35 for her creation, which - in the meantime - had not initially excited the founder of the current giant, but was more a solution of necessity. Yes you are right the name of Nike athletic brand was inspired by the ancient Greek statue of Nike. That statue has wings so he was inspired by the movement of the wings just like the athletic shoes move

That's right.. Poly is much.. but polis (in contemporary Greek is poli / πόλη) means city.. You can sea this in other cities in the world with Greek names.. Tripoli , Napoli (from Neapolis), Anapolis (in US), Antipolis (in France) etc

You can ask also for some toppings on fries.. The simple one is kefalotyri (or hard cheese) and oregano... or soutzoukakia sauce. Or cheddar sauce.. or smoked paprika sauce.. which of course are ton so traditional Greek ones but who cares..
