I do agree on having a deeper bucket. I would also recommend making the paddle out of material that the mice can't grip on, like metal.

put a thin coating of vegetable oil on the board, then the mouse gets a light oiling on its paws and it loses grip and drops faster and cannot grip to leap out via the greasy board and its greasy paws

You already mentioned the bucket not being deep enough, but I also believe the ply was too easy for the rodents to grip and as others mentioned, a plastic version should be more effective.

The concept is good, but needs a much deeper bucket for that length of board. Maybe board could be an inch or two shorter, but not too much shorter because otherwise mouse won't tip the board angle far enough to fall in. I agree a 7 gallon bucket would be better choice, or add water.
@sueneilson896
@sueneilson896 Жыл бұрын
Have used a similar trap with great results. The main difference is I used a plastic counterweighted disk that was a slightly smaller diameter than the bucket, so very slippery, and won’t allow the mice to jump out. Also some water in the bucket to stop jumping.

I'm curious how well it would work with a board that was made out of something they couldn't grab on to ... like some hard plastic. Also, I'd add a weight to the bottom of the bracket to prevent the board from ever point straight down.

Would it work if the board is fixed along the metal rod, not across it? Could still be enough for the mice to lose their balance and fall down, and then more difficult to grab an edge to climb back on top of it.
