Phenomenal lady! Goosebumps! Absolutely love this Queen, grumpy and evil old woman getting mad with the revenge. Don’t understand why everyone is so unhappy with the production. Don’t you getting bored with different beautiful fairies sprinkled with sequins. Just watch!

I love this version! The fact that she is confined to a wheelchair for most of the aria further illustrates how frustrated and helpless she is. She can’t kill Sarastro. For a person whose hatred is so deep, her frustration is at the level of wrath. I would not recommend every singer sing an aria as difficult as this from a chair, but she pulled it of. And for any naysayers, notice that she supports herself through her legs as she sings and her posture is the perfect balance for character and excellent singing. Bravo, singer! Superb job. I hope to see more of her work. Thank you, uploader, for this video.

This is a rare and unique voice for this Mount Everest of arias. Ms. Lewak is superb and the fact that she does it in a wheel chair with such big sound, dramatic heat and lacerating top notes is astounding. The voice is all of a piece, Best since Deutekom and Moser.

It´s long ago, even on records, that i´ve heard such an impressing Queen. Both arias (the other one from the same performance is here on KZbin also) were really dramatic with gleaming top. Don´t forget the difficult circumstances for the rendition with the stage direction. Great.

she is a great singer, and shame on the stage director who had her sing that treacherous aria in a wheelchair a ridculous stage conceit which made it even more difficult to sing - well at least she got to stand at the end

She is probably the only person who can claim to have done this entire extremely difficult aria from a seated position while ALSO wheeling herself around. Now that takes a lot of skill. Only Damrau has brought a similar level of character and stage presence to the role.

Kathryn Lewek is amazing in this video and in person. This coming Saturday April 16 2016, she is singing Maria in Maria Stuarda in Edmonton Canada. I just came from the dress rehearsal, and I have to say she is someone you should rush to hear in person. Her voice is rich and full thourghout a huge range and she can go from ppp to full throttle with astonishing pitch control and beauty. Her acting in the role of Maria is really effective, and she is just about one of the most musical singers I have ever heard in my 50 years of attending opera throughout the world expressed in her breathing, phrasing, tonal beauty and pitch. Ms. Lewek has a new fan in Edmonton.

Why did this performance remind me of into the woods? Maybe just me. Anyways, this performance really was spot on, although I would like to have a word with the crazy stage director. Adding that wheelchair was very stupid. Overall, Kathryn Lewek is a great coloratura soprano, her voice is so beautiful. Bravissimo

I just found this after hearing Kathryn Lewek sing the Queen of the Night on the Met Opera live broadcast. Of course she was excellent. The Met Opera rendition had a twist... it was sung in English. It would be nice if that version was recorded but I suppose that’s unlikely.

I saw Kathryn Lewek perform the Queen of the Night at Lyric Opera of Chicago, which was a light-hearted, modernized, "fairy tale" interpretation. What a challenge to move that wheelchair and still have breath support to manage the high notes. The tone of THIS production looks pretty dark. What was the concept?

Yes, but I don’t care. The acting is genious, she plays her ass off, it’s just out of this world. And the singing is still freaking impressive anyway. This is the way any opera should be played from now.

She reminds me of Joan Sutherland . Sutherland was superior but Lewek has a unique Voice. This role could destroy her voice

You are funny! In what way was Sutherland superior? She was never able to sing the QOTN in the key it was written in. Lewek hasnt destroyed her voice - if one has an excellent technique that wont happens.
