I'm sorry that happened to some of your books, Colleen. I can't imagine the same thing happening to my childhood books - they are not in my own bedroom but they are safe and sound in me and my sister's old play room. I think the notification for this video finally made me get some stuff done as well, haha. I dressed some of my Bratz dolls that were waiting for their outfits. I still have other Bratz dolls with more intricate hair styles waiting for their hair to be washed. They've been on display for a long time and I am bad at maintaining my shelves so they are very dusty. I think I am going to store them in a plastic bin after I am done and put them on display in rotation so they all get a bit of love. It will be more manageable I think. Today I did the finishing touches on my Maggie Raggies doll, they are a bit like Cabbage Patch dolls. I trimmed the ends of her hair and it looks a lot neater now. Sorry for the rambling, but I hope this motivates whoever reads it even more to get dolly stuff done haha. My doll projects will sadly be put on hold after today as I have my wisdom teeth removal surgery this Wednesday and will probably need to rest for a while. Hopefully I can work on my doll projects again soon. I think I'll be watching the rest of the video while I recover from surgery, it will keep me busy in a good way :)
@AThousandSplendidDolls4 ай бұрын
Colleen was super devastated, but at least most of the books survived without damage (and she already replaced the bad ones). I'm so glad that this video could help you get some stuff done. It sounds like you made some great headway with your own dolly projects. Sometimes it's definitely easier having less dolls on display because they are easier to maintain! I hope your wisdom tooth surgery goes well.

Interesting that you mentioned Baby-Sitters Club books. Baby-Sitters Club books started my love of reading (specifically the Little Sister books did), and I've been collecting them for years at various places secondhand. I was thinking about them the other day and went and grabbed the first five to read. Mine are kept in my doll room (AG books are stored there too as well as other childhood favorites like the Ramona books). Silica gel can help repel moisture. When I get new AG stuff, I always save the silica gel packets for this. I live in the South, so it's high humidity, and I put them into jigsaw puzzle boxes to protect puzzles I'm keeping (I build jigsaw puzzles as a hobby). Maybe put some silica gels with the books if you don't want them stored in air tight containers. You can have friends and family save them from things like shoe boxes when they buy shoes or from handbags or anything that comes with them. Activated charcoal also repels moisture, but silica gel comes in a lot of things, so it's like a little bonus.
@AThousandSplendidDolls4 ай бұрын
It's awesome that the Babysitter's Club books started your love of reading! I've tried the silica gel before with doll stuff. It doesn't work where we live...it absorbs moisture in a couple of hours ha ha. Such a bummer too because I bought a ton of it only to realize it was useless. Luckily the moisture itself wasn't a problem with the books. I think it was the little gaps in the molding around the ceiling and the small hole that let the bugs in.
@luckdragongirl4 ай бұрын
@@AThousandSplendidDolls Yeah, I've never had a basement (I've lived in 8 houses/apartments in my life since my parents kept moving, though the house I'm in now was totally me buying it a few years after my mom died). Basements aren't that common in my area, so I've never had large moisture issues outside humidity. Activated charcoal can be bought in large quantities and could help if you needed it for anything. I'm glad the books ruined for Colleen were the cheap ones. I've been searching for the last 3 books I need from the main series. They're all way too pricey, including the highest being $48 (no way am I spending that on that book). Glad it wasn't that one for her. If she has it, protect #120. That one is expensive. 119 is too.
@AThousandSplendidDolls4 ай бұрын
Around here the air is super humid--sometimes 100% humidity. I've actually used activated charcoal before, but it doesn't last long due to the moisture. I m supper sorry about the babysitter club collection! I've had a similar encounter. We had a paper portrait of my mother in a frame and the back seal of the frame was a thin cardboard, strange insects had gotten in and sadly devoured a good portion of the portrait. I am glad though you were able to fix the issue and I thing bagging the books was a great idea. its possible that it is the same insect we had dealt with a while back because we lamented what we had left of the drawing in a plastic covering and then sealed it in a better frame which saved it. hopefully those insects don't come back.
@AThousandSplendidDolls4 ай бұрын
I'm so sorry that your mother's portrait was eaten by similar insects. It's really devastating when something like that happens, because you just don't expect it. So far the bugs haven't returned to the closet after I repaired/sealed the ceiling and with the bagging system :)

Sorry to hear you had an experience of hair shrinkage with boil washing! I had it happen to a "sarah louise debenhams mini sindy" doll i found. Silverfish are bad and can damage a house like termites/carpenter ants (just not as drastically and quickly) and are more common in older house. The last two houses we lived in had them, very old homes, they will shred clothes books curtains a LOT. Here's some quick info because just plastering the ceiling won't get rid of them they live all over the house unfortunately. Silverfish can enter homes from outside around the foundation or be brought in by mistake. They can come inside on items like: Infested dry food products Boxes of books or paper Fabrics Firewood Clothing Christmas trees Furniture Once inside, silverfish can hide in dark places like logs and rocks, or in damp areas like basements, attics, crawl spaces, and laundry rooms. They are often found in bathrooms and attics when they come out to look for food and water. Silverfish eat glue, adhesives, and other items with high starch and sugar content. Silverfish can cause damage to property, including holes, stains, and damage to books, clothing, carpets, and wallpaper. They can also trigger allergic reactions in some people when they shed during molting, but these cases are rare. To prevent silverfish, you can try: Spraying a crawling insect insecticide aerosol in areas where you see silverfish Treating cracks and crevices where silverfish may rest during the day Sealing off refuges Checking for damp stains Ensuring water pipes and gutters are intact Managing indoor condensation, which may be caused by unventilated tumble dryers or cooking Placing bay leaves or cloves where insects appear, as silverfish don't like their scent
@AThousandSplendidDolls4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info :) I did some research when we discovered the books--we didn't just fix the ceiling no worries. The silverfish have been in the house for years--mostly in the pantry. It's not a huge infestation, just part of being in an old house as you said. The book incident is the only issue we've ever had, and there hasn't been a problem since we addressed it :)

You guys should totally try Shout Color Catcher sheets for the bleeding. I know there's also a cheaper knockoff brand as well, so u get it a bit cheaper. Regardless, they aren't too expensive and do work very well. I'm so happy to see u have comments on. I always have good things to say when I watch ur videos and am grateful not to have to try to communicate with u in a roundabout way, lol. Let's cross our fingers that everybody keeps it classy! Plz ppl!! Love ur videos. Thanks for all ur hard work! ✌️💜✌️💜 P.S. I refer to ur Flickr almost on a daily basis for help identifying dolls, so thanks for that! Quick question, we know the Ultimate Barbie Book is best, but is there a specific equivalent or close to it that u could suggest for from the time that Book ends up until about 2000-2002?🤷♀️🤔
@AThousandSplendidDolls4 ай бұрын
I always use those color catchers actually--there were tons of them in the laundry bins for this video! They totally work and are worth the price (especially because you can reuse them for years---I have some that are probably three years old). Thank you! I've definitely gotten some of those same nasty comments that scared me off KZbin before. But I'm in a better headspace to handle them luckily. Thank you so much--it means so much to me that you use my Flickr regularly! I wish there was a book that covered those years, but sadly there is not :( The third edition of J. Michael Augustyniak's "Barbie Doll Exclusives" books is pretty good for playline early 2000s dolls, but it's not comprehensive like "The Ultimate Barbie Book" is (it just shows store exclusives, but that's still very helpful).

@AThousandSplendidDolls It's too bad that they never came out with an Ultimate 2nd version for at least a few additional years. I love that book! U know what would be genius and so amazing, if someone came out with a reference identification guide that went by 1) Eye color 2) Eye Makeup 3) Number of Lashes Top and Bottom and 4) Shape and Placement of White Markings in the Iris. I would so spend good money on that type of guide! Lol, but that's wishful thinking and highly unlikely, but a girl can dream! Thanks again for all the hard work and ur response. I appreciate u and Colleen! Tell her thanks as well. God bless ✌️ 💜

I was candeling some lace about 3 weeks ago & one piece caught fire so of course I used my fingers to put it out. What I didnt realize is the lace also melted & was stuck to my fingers & I wondered why my thumb was burning. Yeah, I had freshly melted lace stuck to my thumb continuing to burn & I had a big white blister. I soaked my thumb in cool water for an hour just to get relief because the burning would not stop. That is what I get for being in a hurry & not paying attention. I am going on my 2nd week of moving rooms in the house, I have so much more space now in the bigger room & I love it. I just finished filling up the shelves in the closet with my fabrics but still have a long way to go. The longest & hardest part is going to be my dolls. All the Monster High I had on the shelving are in laundry baskets waiting for a spa day & to go back on the shelves. I am going to clean all my OMG's too but they do not require as much cleaning. That I am saving til last because that will probably be another 2 week process.
