@@brinac1.6.scaledolls the thing with Mattel now is it's trying to save the cost of production plus the inflation gets crazy high . Your $20 doll 10 yrs ago is like $50 now.. this means that if we want the same quality like from 10 or 15 yrs ago. Then we have to pay 50 or 60 dollars for a fashionista doll... Mattel wouldn't do that because its less profit margin and people will buy less.. they would rather decrease the production cost than. jack up the retail price.. if you want quality dolls, try checking Integrity toys dolls .. crazy quality but crazy price. mattel knows that the market of barbie is within the less costly range. They dont want to be like integrity toys who markets more on the mature buyers.

@@brinac1.6.scaledolls inflation is to blame. Mattel would rather decrease the production cost (resulting to lower quality) than increase the price of the doll.. i dont think many people would buy a basic fashionista doll (with the same quality from ten years ago) for $50..

"Bug juice"?? When I was in 4-H, we often had outings/picnics with the boys' 4-H and the Grange. There was ALWAYS "bug juice"...orange and pineapple juices mixed with either 7-up or ginger ale. Barbie came out in 1959. I was 9 years old. I already had a Ginny and a Jill doll. My father was amused at Barbie's exaggerated proportions. My mother was horrified. I begged for a Barbie. All my friends had one. Instead, I got a Baby Marie/Ginnette clone with a wardrobe. This went on, year after year until the Christmas I was headed for my 17th birthday. OK, I was still 16. I heard my father tell my mother to just get me the d*mned Barbie. My mother got a boot box from our Endicott Johnson's shoe store and filled it with an entire handmade wardrobe. A leopard corduroy coat and hat, short sets, capris, party dresses, ball gowns, day dresses, hats, gloves, peignoirs, baby doll pj's, hats handbags...name it, it was there. Eventually, that Barbie/wardrobe and the Baby Marie/wardrobe got passed on to two younger cousins. I still have Ginny and Jill. My birthday gift to me this year was a Made-to-Move Barbie, and I also bought on eBay the repro patterns my mother bought all those decades ago. I'm going to replicate that trousseau for me and my three grandgirls. Then I'm going to outfit three Kens...one for me and one for each of my grandsons. If I could figure out how to make the weaponry, I'd give them each a US Navy GI Joe/Ken. I'm a US Navy veteran and, yes, I have a US Navy Barbie from 2005 (a gift from my daughter who was then in the Navy herself, and a US Navy Ken from the 1960s I got in bits and pieces on eBay. Happy 65th birthday, Barbie...from one of your oldest fans.
