I do love the theme ! I only played Agricola from Uwe which I enjoyed but was not crazy in love with. This might be definitely more in my alley, a bit lighter, but still fun, I do like cozy puzzles and not too cut throat so I am definitely excited about it ! Thanks for the nice review !

Ok I just have to say, Nusfjord became one of my favourite games BECAUSE of the variability in it. All those different decks, I played that game with my wife over 40 times!! Hallertau similar, because of the decks making the games all so different (35 plays). I played this at Essen and was taught very badly and unenthusiastically, which has taken away my excitement for this a bit, but I will of course pick it up because I always love an Uwe game. But it does seem to have a bit less variability than those. Hope you guys will enjoy it even more on future plays though!!
@BoardGamingRamblings2 жыл бұрын

My even firster impressions are kinda similiar - the biggest draw for me is the income board and the flow it dictates. Understanding when to switch gears, cash in those trees and sacrifice income will come, but in my first game I did a poor job at that. Also, love that it is on the shorter end and somehow the color palette and art (aside from the ugliest cover since Concordia) are enjoyable. As per replayability, I do feel that if/when I get the timing on the income board might mark it's end in my collection. I mean there are the 6 tiles mixing up some of the actions and the territory cards will come at random, but I don't think it will be enough in the long run
@rafaturniak70682 жыл бұрын
Also, staying in the short range of Uwe games with a peculiar flow, I see myself picking this over Glass Road about 0/10 times :)
@BoardGamingRamblings2 жыл бұрын
That is always hard: Will I choose this over other games. If I had the chance to play a Uwe Rosenberg game, and I could choose freely, it would probably be Feast for Odin or Le Havre 9/10 times.
@69robtaylor2 жыл бұрын
I picked this up at Essen I do like the game but all 3 of my plays have felt identical. Not sure the replay value is there. But it is nice.
@BoardGamingRamblings2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know what you mean! I’m also not sure what you could change in an expansion to make it more variable!
@sadekhanna2 жыл бұрын
The board feels too open at 2 players, but I still enjoy the puzzle and the engine building. It's definitely better at a higher player count, so I want to try including a bot as a fictional 3rd player. There is some variability with the sliding worker spots and a good replayability with the different terrains and strategies. In german it's Kennerspiel which is a perfect category for it. It goes beginner/family, advanced, expert.
@jareduxr2 жыл бұрын
surprised the excellent way Hallertau was scaled wasn’t implemented here as well.
@sadekhanna2 жыл бұрын
@@jareduxr there are more spaces for 3 and even more for 4 players, but I guess I'm used to a little bit more challenge.
@BoardGamingRamblings2 жыл бұрын
It felt tighter at three, but as Sunniva said, and I agree, that the tightness comes more from having space on your tiles, than blocking others on the worker board! :) Makes sense that Kennerspiel is Advanced, it just sounds more advanced than it is 😅

I'm not familiar with Uwe Euro games, so I'm interested in trying one and since it is the easiest of the bunch, I'll probably get this one. Do his other games eventually get expansions? Maybe this one will also get some type of expansion to increase replayability?
@BoardGamingRamblings Жыл бұрын
I think this would work great as a first Uwe game! Some of his games gets expansions, some don't. Hard to say, hehe!

@@BoardGamingRamblings Honestly don't like his designs! The only one that someone might convince me is A Feast for Odin, but even that isn't something that I would be running.... I played a lot of his earlier designs and just found it either boring or claustrophobic. I might be biased, but I find his games not that fresh....

@brandbryson36162 жыл бұрын
I think a six rating is good for a game you enjoyed but don’t want to keep. I think an eight rating means you’re putting it into a higher tier of the designer. Where would this rank on your Uwe list?
@BoardGamingRamblings2 жыл бұрын
I went back to the document we made while doing our topical ramblings video on rating, to make sure I agreed with my own rating, and I do! 😅 A 6 on our list is: Above average. A game on a pile of games. Might be ok, and might play if someone really wants to, but no desire to keep in the colletion, or play again. And an 8 is: A great game. This stays in the collection. Might end up in top lists, and I will gladly play.

Nice overview. I really do think this game has some problems with representation though. I REALLY wanted this game but I feel like the local people and culture are esentially erased to focus on bat...if this was a farming game in europe they would never make the game about the cow or sheep. A shame.
