Ilyushin Il-86 / RA-86125
Atlant-Soyuz Airlines / 7B205
Departure: Moscow Vnukovo (VKO), Russia (Rwy 24)
Arrival: Simferopol International (SIP), Ukraine (Rwy 01L)
Date: 5th September 2010 / Seat: 13A
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Departure onboard Atlant-Soyuz' very heavy Il-86 registered as RA-86125 from Moscow Vnukovo (VKO) and bound for Simferopol (SIP), Ukraine. The flight took place on September 5th, 2010, a week before the last Il-86 service to SIP of the season. If you listen carefully, you can hear the airstarter at engine startup. The incoming aircraft is a ALK (Kuban) Yak-42. Upon departure, the Il-86 glided into the air like on rails, a very smooth ride and it felt like the Il-86 was made from solid steel.

Many thanks for this amazing video with great loud NK-86 sound! I hat the pleasure to fly from VNO to Antalya in August 2009. An awesome experience! Sad to know that I will never see and hear a civil IL-86 again.... Matthias Winkler

For an 80's plane, its surprisingly quiet. It is quite a step up from the Il-62

I keep thinking that the IL-62 should have had this engine layout - like the 707 and DC-8. Maybe there could have been a sister ship model by the name of IL-72, which would have come in various fuselage lengths like the DC-8. Imagine that! A "Soviet DC-8".

The Il-72 almost existed. It was meant to be a shortened version of the 62, and proposed about the same time as the Tu-154. But four engines on a medium haul jet was out of the question.

@longhauler2001 The Il-86 is statiscally one of the safest airliners in the world, having had no fatal crashes. There were only just over a hundred of them built which is a rather small number for an aircraft like this but even so its safety record is damned impressive. All that talk of Soviet aircraft being unsafe is just Cold War propaganda don't forget.

@Coaljet When the IL62 was designed only the US had studied & developed aircraft with wing mounted jets, which isn't easy to do.Boeing & Douglas used this military technology in their airliners. The Sud Caravelle, BAC111, Hawker Trident, VC10 and IL62 mounted their engines at the rear of the fuselage. This gave similar low drag performance but meant it was harder to service the engines. The interior of the VC10 was quiet as it left the noise behind. I would presume the IL62 similar

Great video and I think reengining the IL-86 with PW-2337 engines for the IL-96 would allow to fly the IL-86 into 2013 as opposed to ending them flying in 2009-2010

There was actually a follow-on design for the IL-86 with CFM turbofans. It was created during the early 1980s after the aircraft entered service and its range and fuel consumption were shown to be inadequate to meet its original specifications. Much like the IL-62M, the IL-86M would have featured reduced fuel consumption and increased range, not to mention it would have been far quieter. The Ilyushin factory actually tooled up a production line for the aircraft. However, the IL-96-300 was in its development stage at the time, so Ilyushin chose to focus on that project, rather than improve the IL-86.

thats because of noise law in the us and europe...these noisy aircraft are no longer allowed to fly over populated area...the b727 b707 dc9 etc back in the day were just as noisy

it has only one crash , in test flight , with no passengers onboard . no single passenger was killed by this beatiful plane . i and i flown it many times in childhood . you may continue fly boeings , if your life isn`t a thing for you . just check the statistics . it wouldn`t lie .

Apparently the VC-10 is even noiser on takeoff but only from outside. From inside the cabin both are surprisingly quiet gievn that they have turbojets
@brittsaunders4621
@brittsaunders4621 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, the thing the VC-10, IL-62 and IL-86 had in common was low-bypass turbofan engines. The VC-10 used Rolls-Royce Conways, while the IL-62 had Kuznetsov NK-8s, the IL-62M had Soloviev D30KUs, and the IL-86 had Kuznetsov NK-86s. The bypass ratio was about 1:1 and 1:2. With no noise attenuation, the IL-86 cabin was quite noisy aft of the wing.

What's the 2-tone sound to be heard from 0:52 to 1:08? Ive heard it so many times. Cabin crew get ready? Does it have any standardized name?
@Chefsalat76
@Chefsalat76 9 жыл бұрын
winni223 I think its the cockpit crew flicking the seat belt sign on and off. Depending on the airline they may do it multiple times to indicate to the cabin crew 'ready for departure'. Some airlines make a short announcement (something like 'cabin crew, departure in 2 mins'). Think this is part of the checklist.

Nah B777s have nice engine sounds; especially on start ups. This thing sounds like a hair drier. The planes that have lost the jet sounds are the B787s, totally quiet.

yeah you are right. Boeing has had many fatal crashes. but, it is the same thing as if there are more bananas in the world than apples, the bananas are more likely to be eaten. the fact that there have been 15,000+ boeings to ever fly compared to no more than 500 Tupolev and Ilyushins combined. not to mention that a large majority of the Boeings were pre-1970 when safety systems on aircraft were primitive. if there were as many of those in the air as boeing, there would be just as many crashes.

@launchsa it is in no way like the 707 you mug, they aren't even near comparable, the Il-86 was a wide body that can carry 300, the 707 was a narrow body carrying about 120 :L

@puerco911 you have no idea what you are talking about, you are so ignorant. The Il-86 is the words safest airliner, the reason only 2 are now flying is because they first flew in the 1970s, they are very old and out dated, what do you expect? The same goes for the 747, there are only a small handful of the original 747-100 models flying. There are less flying because the Soviets have ended up with the older equipment because the Western countries have monopolised it all.

@puerco911 Stop being so ignorant about things, seriously you have no idea what you are talking about, you might also want to know that the Russians and Ukrainians are actually starting to do a lot better than they have been doing. Like i said Boeing and Airbus have the duopoly on the industry, along with a few smaller companies, of SIMILAR sizes to the Russian and Ukrainian companies.
