Dear RA85535 That was the best engine start up i have ever seen. I love Russian aircraft. I admirer all the design innovations that are developed throughout the cold war We were always told that Russian aircraft were inferior to US planes I can tell you that they were wrong. I am so glad that we have the internet. Thank you for posting the videos. Wishing you best regrades from us here in the states. Max

The Tupolevs have always had an awesome engine noise.
@bEEBO178
@bEEBO178 6 жыл бұрын
Thats the inefficient turbo jet engines. Modern engines are high bypass turbo fans and less noisy/more fuel efficient. Also meet noise regulations. These are 1950's/60s designs from a byegone era. Most airlines got rid of jet engines in the 1970's and 80's.

Skilled engineer. There is a great document for the startup procedure for this plane in the flightgear docs, does this and all the gyro / autopilot alignments. Good read. The navigation system in this thing is actually unbelievable in a modern age of gps, had to read it a few times and I still don't understand it fully. I can see why this cockpit had a dedicated navigator in these planes, in addition to the engineer.

Missing screws is a way of life in an in-service airplane, western, or otherwise. Really each instrument needs only two. That blue color, oh, that was also McDonnell Douglas paint scheme for the DC-9 fleet, and even some DC-8s were painted that way out of the box. If you were ever a DC8 flight engineer, you flip almost that many switches, and knobs. Only the switches didn't "click" that load. LOL!!

AFAIK this is a sound of a device which equalizes fuel consumption from the tanks (автомат розхода - awtamat razhoda), so the plane center of gravity wont get shifted to one side or front/back. If you have MSFS, go download the Project Tupolev Tu-154 and try everything yourself. The startup procedure may seem complicated, but is rather logical when you know what you are doing.

Good question... Once in the air I think there should be the same procedure for inflight start using the natural fan autorotation... Actually you should focus only on the deffective engine. I think you have just to move the start-master, crank and the respective engine start selector to on (up position) providing continuos it ignition, ensure you have the right forward speed and... pray! ;p

honestly wtf is up with your dualism. I love both automatisation and manual control In most aircraft you fire up the APU with 1 button, attleast in the Tupolev you still have control over all it's functions. In the airbus you have that too but it's digital.

cause he shuts the apu. and for tu154 each engine has individual power generator and hydraulic system, so unless all engine shut in the air, there are at least one engine can generate power for others to start. I don't know if tu154 can fly with one engine, but yak42 can fly safely with only one operated engine.

yea its true that it give alot of help but if the two pilots that were accepted to work for the airliner after years of heavy training can do almost the same as what the 3rd person would do, every normal airliner pilot is an engineer itself. today a pilot has to know everything about the aircraft that he is flying, pilots know how to avoid and detect every mistake that has been done in the past.
