Atlanta is one of my favorite cities for freeways.

Great video! I live right on North Marietta Parkway and as of August 2010, I work right near Cumberland Mall, so it was kind of neat watching my whole commute zip by within a couple of minutes. :) Loved the music choice, and I think the sign photos are a great addition to your videos. Thanks for the effort, it makes for a very enjoyable video to watch!

Downtown Atlanta! Ya know, I had always wondered where that 15 lane section of I-75 was located (the section around 4:55). Never did get a chance to drive it. I've always found that stretch pretty neat, considering the high number of lanes, the wide grassy/tree-lined median and the hilly nature of the area. Damn, even as you get up north past Exit 260...toward 270, the number of lanes and traffic remains pretty high. Shows how sprawling Metro Atlanta has become. Awesome video!

@CosmoPhotography Thanks! the 23 Lane plan may be on ice but that road still needs some help, plus there is a flyover stub at the Cobb Cloverleaf from I-75N to I-285W, things could get interesting depending on what "Revive285" plan gets used.

That skyline view you featured in the beginning has always been awesome to me. I keep wanting to get on top of the Pryor Road bridge at 0:44 to photograph the skyline but always forget when I'm in town. While it would have encouraged further sprawl and auto dependence in Cobb, I kind of wish that 20 something lane proposal from GDOT had been built in Marietta. THAT would have been something! Anyway, superb job again, Jim! Loved the song.

Ahh yeah. Windy Hill Road and the Cobb Cloverleaf. Been around in there many times because I have friends who live on Windy Hill near where it ends at Austell Road.

@NordikFilm The Welcome centers are nice. There are no rest areas through the Metro Atlanta area but most of the exits have services at the exit or nearby..

@cochrab Thanks! The "Grady Curve" is called such because the highway curves just to the east of Grady Hospital as it makes it way through town.

One more thing... when the segment between Kennesaw and Cartersville was finally completed, that made I-75 the first completed Interstate to stretch from one end of the U.S. to another (IIRC).

@JDRSBJC You're welcome. The last unfinished part of I-75 was Mile 290 to Mile 269 (Barrett Parkway) US-41 just a couple miles to the west of I-75 was the main road (detour) at the time.

@FreewayTitan Thanks, I think it looks better heading south but it's definitely interesting to drive.

The 2-part I-75 NB videos are among your best ever IMHO!!! :) Like the sign shots you added. I'm tempted to try the same thing in my future videos and thanks for the inspiration, Jim.

Thanks, another great video. I remember as a kid taking the detour (on our yearly trip to Florida) by the last unfinished part of I-75 but can't remember the exact detour route. Would you or anyone here know the exact route that the detour took? I'd like to take it again someday and see if I remember/recognize anything.

@cubsrule2040 All Urban Freeways Including I-285 and everything Inside I-285 is 55MPH. Speed Limits are 65 in most cases outside I-285 and 70 in rural areas. There is no explanation other than that's just what the state decided to do.

Great vids as usual my dude. Where did you get the 1960s pic of the downtown connector? I'd be interested if there are any more older pics of ATL freeways from that era that you can point me to. Thanks, and keep up the great work!
@Freewayjim13 жыл бұрын
@FreewayBrent Thanks Brent. You were close to that 15 lane section when you were here! There is a 16 lane section over 6 carriageways near the Airport and a short 16 lane section where I-75 and I-85 split. The metro area keeps going for another 5-7 miles north from where the video ended, sprawling indeed!
@adogg61913 жыл бұрын
@Freewayjim Hey Jim, great video as usual and I love the song. But how come you didn't utilize the HOV lane here to avoid the traffic and reduce constant lane changes? Were you traveling alone for this particular filming? Just curious.

@MyMultimedia Thanks, much appreciated! I thought it was average at best but I'm glad you liked it. The signs, well I shot every single one with a DSLR Camera while driving/filming the route then tweaked them in a photo program afterwards. I will not do this for every exit ion future videos but possibly for major interchanges, provided I get a good enough shot of the signs, it's not as easy as it may look or seem.

Wow! Atlanta looks like it hasn't changed much from 1966 to 1996. The freeways in '96 look like '66 on steroids. Same goes for the stadium, just a few paint dabs here and there. In '66, the stadium looks brand new considering the Braves and the Falcons each played their first seasons at what was then Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. It was later remodeled in 1996 for the Olympics and then renamed Turner Field. But Atlanta 1996 looks like its buildings got taller and its air more polluted.
