Beautiful work, Jim! Atlanta has changed sooo much since I first visited in '96 (and it changed a lot before then, too). The streetscape improvements on Peachtree in MIdtown are really nice, and it will get even better with the streetcar that's planned to run down it. I really wanted to film this type of tour during the night on my trip last month. I'm thinking I can get down there and do it this summer. Maybe a possible Freewayjim/CosmoPhotography collaboration? haha Super job, again!

@casmatori Yes, you are correct on that. There are only so many streets that are worth filming. The only reason I did this video is that the 2009 version is very popular but in standard def, I wanted it upgraded to HD. The videos I shot in 2010 are in HD so no need to upgrade them right now.

BTW -- meant to say, I love your channel. I have sent your videos to a number of people around the world and they have been suprised at how modern most American cities are disspelling certain stereotypes aome have around the world about the US. To the contrary, most have been SHOCKED at how modern the US is in reality. I sometimes take it for granted -- that is, until I travel abroad and return. THANK YOU!

@GoGETTAMAN12 Thanks for the suggestion, you are the first person in 4.5 years to say that the text distracts from the view. I have considered your suggestion before but I'm afraid if I went in that direction people would complain that I'm ruining the music by talking over it. I can't win, lol! This format I'm using works IMO, I try hard not to place text where there is something of great interest to see.

Excellent video. I love Atlanta although I was born and raised in Queens New York. Iam thinking about buying a condo in Atlanta and making it my second home. I was in Atlanta last year for a motorcycle event and brought by motorcycle with me. I love the smooth roads on the highway. Also I can't forget the food and southern hospitality. Love it!

This was uploaded in the spring. Atlantic Station in the summer is no joke and I live in Jamaica. Thought I was going to die just getting out of the car to go into IKEA. My sister agrees with you about the 180 degree turn of that section of Peachtree. Said it was sketchy in the extreme back then.

This is nice, thank you. By the way I live in Sacramento and I've also lived in Seattle. Atlanta has much better weather than Seattle. Atlanta is rain and shine, Seattle is grey, rain, and more grey. You get about 6-8 weeks of decent weather in Seatlle, that's it.

@cabasse Thank you! on #1) we can agree to disagree, not even close. #2) I took Ellis as a means to get to the highway and end the video (and start the next one). Adding Auburn & Edgewood would have made the video too long but they could be used as separate subjects for other videos at some point.

I'm back and forth on where to live. I'm from NY, but its too expensive, in terms of buying an apt with good space. I'm looking at Atlanta, Chicago, and Denver. Atlanta is ahead now because it seems diverse, has a nightlife, modern, cost of living is great, and good weather.

One of the best tours i've found of any city - well done! My wife and i are planning a visit to get a feel for the area ahead of a possible move within the next couple of years. my wife is 30 with a PhD in Mechanical engineering and i am 48 and a lowly city planner with tons of Geospatial analysis experience. i told my wife i needed to live in a city with an Ikea - we currently live in Melbourne FL :O( i know traffic is bad but is that a huge deal-breaker for transplants? i've had two friends move up and back but i didn't ask them why. we like the outdoors and we have a Boykin Spaniel that needs tons of exercise. we would naturally like a single-family house with a backyard but we know we are asking a lot. any thoughts?
@Freewayjim9 жыл бұрын
Thank you...traffic can be bad but at least there are large roads to handle it, you learn what parts of town to avoid at certain times with regard to rush hour. My family moved here in 1977 from the Northeast, no way we'd move back. As for the house, too many factors involved I don't know your situation, where you'd work and such, I suggest you contact a realtor with those types of questions.

@Headbiter The older cities in the northeast are less car reliant than the newer southern cities, which are more spread out due to cheap land and at the time, cheap fuel. Not having a car in America is the exception to the rule for the most part.
@Freewayjim13 жыл бұрын
@purplesparklesox Thanks, I hope things work out for you.
@iriewaregl12 жыл бұрын
Yes, Americans love their cars. BUT, Atlanta has a very modern (somewhat underutilized) mass transit system -- MARTA -- with high speed subways and buses that will make getting around fairly easy. Just check out the MARTA website. There is a big station at the airport.

@Freewayjim Interesting stuff here. All the office and apartment high rises resemble Downtown L.A. a little bit with the exception that midtown Atlanta has a lot more trees lining down the sidewalks. Looks nice enough to just park the car, and take a long walk up and down Peachtree for a closer view and get some sun on your shoulders. That's what I would like to do.

Atlanta isn't NYC for sights but really if I had to live anywhere in the States it'd have to be there. Its clean, most of it is safe, good schools. There's no shortage of shopping and while it can be cold at times it's nothing like up north. Plus you have to love the tree canopy.
