I think the theme of this season comes from the first episode. “These White Folks going to kill you”. The lesbian couple, the concert promoter, the Central Park 5 reference, Socks killing Paper Boy creativity, & white chick killing the Nigerian restaurant. The white lady accusing Van of stealing the wig is from the chick that accused the son of that celebrity of stealing her cell phone. They were rich and she still felt like she could police them.

I dont think Van was actually there. The whole season they have placed some sort of reference or direct idea of dreams. Earn wakes up in a tiny hotel room. You can see the desk in the corner, and there is just one pillow that hasn't been slept on. A suite that he was in (during the dream) would have had a king size bed in a huge bedroom. He wakes up disappointed because it was just a dream about Van. How did he get to that hotel in the 1st place? He just happened to be there and asked where the nearest apple store was? It's like any other dream where you start in the middle.

All, here are a few thing that no one has mentioned. Do you remember there was the Blackface Scandal with Gucci? Firstly, If you don't know Hip Hop History, you may not know Dapper Dan. He was a Harlem designer who used Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, MCM fabrics into Streetwear. He did what he had to do because as usual "Ghetto until proven fashionable." Even US Supreme Justice Sonia Sotomayor got him arrested back in the day when she was general counsel for Chanel. All the rappers and drug dealers bought his clothing because he styled it dope. Watch the Netflix film The Remix: Hip Hop x Fashion, it explains in totality. Anyway, Dap got shut down mad times and was never accepted in fashion. His clothing was deemed too Black and ghetto. In 2019- Prada, Gucci, Moncler, Katie Perry etc all had Blackface in their designs they needed to figure something out to get good especially because Black people buy so much designer goods. A few years ago, when Gucci was called out for copying Dan's designs, the designer had a series of talks with the company which eventually manifested into a partnership. When Dan spoke to Alessandro Michele, the trailblazing designer credited with revamping Gucci, he told him that if black culture is going to be appropriated, then people of color need to have a seat at the table. "When people appropriate our culture, they make mistakes," he tells the show's hosts. "So my approach to them was, 'you got to have us in the room. We got to be a part of this so these things don't happen.'" Gucci and Dapper Dan had a closed door meeting and they added Dapper Dan to the Gucci Diversity Council AND gave him an atelier Gucci shop in Harlem plus programs to help Black Fashion Designers.As it pertains to his partnership with the Italian fashion house-when the blackface scandal prompted customers to condemn the entire Gucci establishment, Dap helped spearhead some much-needed reforms within the company. "We have a changemakers program, I wish everybody would go online and see what they implement," he explains. Dap has a book out called "Dapper Dan: Made In Harlem." I have seen the program help but what Black creatives and entrepreneurs need is MONEY. This is why Al has a shirt on at the table that has the Gucci red and green stripe (which is supposed to represent beauty and class) and it says "FAKE" on it. Secondly, I think that Khalil is supposed to be like DeRay- DeRay never takes off his Blue Vest and Khalil never takes off that Red BLM scarf thing. Ouch. Khalil is the Black Socks. He is misguiding Al in a different kind of way- they are too trusting. Khalil is out for self and Al might trust him because he is Black. All skinfolk aintcha kinfolk! Sometimes people will give people who look like them or have the same interests the benefit of the doubt for that reason and it doesn't always fare well. Darious and Van smashed and that's why she brought up his name when she was with Earn. Darious is AL's friend not really Earn's. Sharen is Karen and when she was taking the order at the food truck, she said "raisins" LMAO- raisins in the potato salad! RIP Chadwick Boseman iykyk I never comment on YT but I had to. I appreciate theses reviews because content takes time and it brings us together. Shouts to @MovieFiles. Shout out to Dapper Dan, Hip Hop culture and the entire African Diaspora. As a Jamaican, I see too much appropriation instead of appreciation of all forms of Black Culture. Everyone's opinions are beautiful. Have a dope day!

The one managed to be the funniest and saddest so far, which is the real beauty of satire. While I missed the usual surrealist (and more recently, horror) elements that this ep was lacking, I think it was a great way of checking in on the characters (especially Van) and I think it may rank with Atlanta's best in terms of social commentary. I think the depressing reality eclipsed everything else tbh. The unhelpful and redundant "diversity" initiatives and programs, exploitation and gentrification, the blatant "All Lives Matter"-ing of Al's idea, and the depressive spiral I think we're seeing in Van all lingered with me more than any of the humor, despite how hilarious it was. I wouldn't be surprised if the season ended with "E"/Earnest from the "short film" episodes making a first and only appearence in proximity of the group, blatantly telling us that those stories were not just Earn's dreams or stricly metaphor/commentary. Atlanta has always exaggerated social issues in America for the sake of satire and story, so I wouldn't put it past them.

And I had the same thought about the short film episodes. Maybe they explore the fears of Earn through his dreams/nightmares.

Idk if anyone else peeped this but right before Earn notices Van in the hotel he's talking with his boi from season 1 (homie from the airport) in the lobby as he's heading out. I'm assuming he flew him out to Europe for a bit to chill and it's nothing major really, i just thought it was a nice subtle cameo to bring him back real quick

Al and Demarco's interactions were so hilarious, i couldn't stop laughing
@keandabennett81092 жыл бұрын
Beginning of Atlanta, they describe Earn and Van as being the couple who had a lot of love but could not afford couple's therapy but now that they are experiencing financial stability there's no excuse why they couldn't do that for their baby, you know...

The problem was the line was named Central Park 5 with a White girl laying down next to Black men in the ad. His explanation in the beginning seems to suggest this a complete coincidence (his influence being Central Park, and it was the 5th anniversary of something) but I'm sure that didn't matter once the ad was released.

I can totally see what you mean about the hesitancy about Darius being less confident in “claiming” his Nigerian roots. When people detect an accent on me somehow, they ask me “are you Jamaican?” I never know how to answer since it’s just my parents from Jamaica and I was born here. Meanwhile, the black adjacent dude might be only “quarter black” and trying EXTRA hard to rep meanwhile even when we come from the culture, we’re afraid to rep it, almost.

What’s happening to Van ? Was she so impacted by “Tupac” death or did the lady that spoke to her at the death room impact her so much that she’s changed ?
@keyboardevangelist2 жыл бұрын
She is recklessly trying to find herself. Season 1 and season 2 was about her being defined as just a mother or earn's on and off baby mama. She didn't like to be defined as only those.. shes trying to be care-less/free like how earn used to be.. but i think its gonna bite her in the end..

This was the first episode that went over my head in the sense that, this is just not a part of society I know or get at all, so like I really couldnt analyze much of what was going on, or at least, my assumptions seemed incorrect, like in the sense of, who was helping Al, and who was really interested in investing in black businesses and communities, like it seemed like everyone was out for themselves??? But then one dude gives Al some advice, finally, but like, no one seems to care? I feel that way too, like you want to make a difference and change the world but other people are just living their life not bogged down by all the unfair things about society... But the end scene with Van, like he wants to call her out, but she is just being like him, coming and going as she pleases, not explaining herself, and not making Lottie the priority, but see how upset Earn (and fans) are about Van. She is tired, tired of being trapped by motherhood, sorry, some women can break free, but it is a trap, and it holds you back, and maybe you can say it is worth it, okay, maybe it is, but it still holds you back, and that is a trip, something as a mother you really wrestle with, and I am glad to see it being vocalized on this show.

With all the ghost references this year I'm starting to buy into the whole Van is dead stuff. It's already canon that Darius believes in/saw a ghost. So him interacting with Van... I don't recall Alfred speaking with her. His attempt to talk to Ern a last week to check on him. It's sketchy & would be wack to have her be dead, but I can see some threads of it. How does she end up at the same hotel? Where did she go in the morning? The interaction with the Karen didn't happen until Ern was there. 🤔

I believe the creators have collaborated on blurring appropriation… in terms of struggle in terms of culture… in terms of class and the finesse game. What is appropriation in terms of perspective, and even in the production of the show itself… does one practice appropriation in terms of self interest and if one finesses the appropriation and gains, does the perception of 3rd parties of the act matter in the long run.

Great review on the episode but I'm surprised you aint touch on how Khalil was kind of a satire of these clout chasing, social justice "woke" "influencers" and "activists" and "leaders of the community" who basically use social justice as get rich quick scheme. I mean Khalil was wearing that life vest the whole time and who do we know that is a famous social justice personality that wears a vest jacket?

The Deray vs. Shaun king vs. BLM founders. There is a lot of corruption in the movement which is so said. Millions in donations with lack of oversight and accountability.
