As someone from London, when the Nigerian food shop closes that’s just typical of gentrification in London. Authentic shops by immigrants are always getting shut down when the areas get re invested in by outside businesses and it pushes all the people who live there out of the area and further out of London which is so sad. So the re invest in your hood scheme just hit different for me here and it’s cool to see Atlanta touch on that
@Ronkyort0dox2 жыл бұрын
But Nigerians aren't original from London either (not for many generation at least). There was a time where they came first and took the place if other people that lived there before. London is not their "anchestral homeland". They'll move somewhere else in the Uk and start another business there. It's the nature of big cities.

@@Ronkyort0dox The British colonized many places in Africa, Nigeria included. Basically fucked their countries and dipped...that's why so many Nigerians end up there.

^ NOPE! look at History: Gentrification is less about "cities"'; its more of the nature of our post-war, capitalist hegemony. Many older pre-WW2 cities around the world developed well-known "ethnic" zones that survived thru multiple generations. Western globalism sells off all that old-world/ "human scale" charm. The "cities" lose cosmopolitan city-ness
@rubencabral18382 жыл бұрын
Thats not how it works, these communities were pushed to these areas because they were undesirable to white britons so these areas became their homes. So because of that these communities have taken ownership of the areas deemed appropriate for them like how Notting Hill has a massive caribbean influence with a yearly carnival open to all or North London being predominantly Turkish/Kurdish with most businesses being owned by that community. Thats why gentrification is such an issue because its like taking a dummy from a baby right after you flashed candy in front of it.

I really loved the mirror shot of Earn and Al. A simple but very efficient way to express visually a lot of ideas. One of them that really stuck with me was how "the real" Earn was filmed compared to the reflection of Al, that I interpreted in comparing how Earn is more and more rooted to reality when Al is becoming a cliché version of himself.

I thought of what Kahlil said yesterday when I found out that Atlanta had been almost snubbed completely by the Emmys. "You expect them to fund their own demise?" People are mixed on the anthology format but I love it because it is such a sublime and creative way of othering white people the way they have othered everyone else. Even the episodes that are seemingly about them are really explorations of them for the entertainment and understanding of black people. Why would the Emmys reward or amplify that. I really love this show and I'm glad I found your channel.

I think Darius suppose to Lead the crew to some kind of direction but everyone is caught up in there own little world.No one really paying him any attention (especially when he wanted to find the rooms on the map) He seem to be getting more and more feed up as the episodes keep coming. Speaking of reflections: the fashion designer's company's (Esco Esco) is two E's but one is facing the opposite direction (look at the logo on the box at the beginning when the rich kid unpacks the Central Park 5 jersey and later at the end of the We're All From Some Hood commercial). That specific letter is interesting considering there's the main Earnest, "Earn," and his 'reflection,' the White Earnest, who says "Call me E" in The Big Payback. I don't have any specific theory but I do find it curious...

No one has mentioned this so I guess I will. The thing about this Season that I am really enjoying is seeing Black people traveling and having adventures in Europe. Seeing our protagonists navigate foreign cities, outside of American culture. From 2013 to 2021 I was teaching university students English in Istanbul, Budapest and Prague, and it was always a joy to run into Brothas and Sistas backpacking through those cities and connect, compare notes, or just kick it. I love seeing our Black people OUTSIDE the U.S.!!
@danielortizrants72092 жыл бұрын
The clothing line is a direct reference to Gucci and their appropriation on black culture. First off, the pickaninny dolls they sold a few years ago and claiming they knew nothing about the racial implications of the look; which in itself shows how they fail to educate themselves beyond their profits. They provided a half-hearted, faceless apology that sounded similar to the designers apology in this episode. 2nd, back in the 90's Dapper Dan was shut down by these European designers when he rebranded their clothing for streetwear and was shunned by the fashion world until Gucci stole his ideas in 2017. After being shouted out on social media, all of a sudden they gave credit where credit was due, and aaaaaalll of a sudden Gucci partnered with Dapper Dan to create a men's line of clothing. 3) Let's talk about the primary colors of Gucci. The parallel red and green stripes. Similar to the Pan-African flag.The only thing missing is the black stripe. The way that black people embrace the line, and with all the insensitivity they've conveyed, are we the black stripe?? If it's mere coincidence, it's eerily aligned. Lastly, let's discuss Al's outfit at the board meeting. The Gucci influenced shirt with "FAKE" written on the front. Now if you do any type of design, you know not to put yellow text on a white background. The text is harsh on the eyes and gets lost on the background. 🤔 This might suggest that Paperboi is losing his identity. Then as the scene continues, they purposely set the camera angle on the back of his shirt to show the word "NOT" in yellow text, stating that his mission towards being authentic might be behind him now.🤔🤔🤔🤔. It's interesting because it's how I feel about black people that still buy Gucci. A brand that we've shown so much love to but has not reciprocated. We boycotted for a while once the dolls came out, but literal months later I see black bodies draped in the clothing. Claims that it's too dope and the subconscious belief that it represents success continues to keep our people in a headlock. This episode is chalk-full of messages, but I noticed this one was overlooked. Just some things to ponder.

This episode felt too familiar. As a Project Manager and Filmmaker, I got the project to produce short films on the experience of black staff working at a hospital in tn England. The main focus of the film was racial discrimination but in came the LGBTQ network and decided I make it about discrimination against black LGBTQ staff and then other minority ethnic group wanted a piece of the project pie. I stated my project brief was explicitly on "racial discrimination" but they kicked up a fuss. Thankfully, I got support from the Equality department and produced what was intended. If they had their way, the project would have been diluted the racial discrimination message.

The legs of the whole "Van is really dead" theory get stronger every week. The theory makes a lotta sense. Maybe every time we see Van its a dream sequence. We've seen a scene of Earn suddenly "waking up" about 3 or 4 times this season and assumingly everything that happens with Van before the wakeup is a dream sequence. Sometimes when we lose a loved one we have dreams about them. And the dreams are usually happy ones where things go exactly how we wish them to go, hence Earn & Van being in the room getting along and spending the night. Even during the dream she tells Earn its a simulation, a line i didn't catch until watching this YT video..... Maybe every time we see Van she's a figment of Earn's imagination who communicates with him. In ep 3 we see Van stealing from the rich white man's house, and staring at the picture, and pushing white people in the pool. In this ep we see her stealing again from a white owned store. I think Van is popping up and subliminally guiding Earn to milk the rich white people for all they have just like they do us. In ep 3 he ends up finessing the investor. In this ep he tries to convince Al to do the same (unsuccessfully) but then Earn turns around and finesses a free penthouse suite at the hotel. Again this theory is DEFINITELY a stretch but it has legs 😂

Van actually heard the simulation theory from her friend. Who was with Darius and they had to walk together at the end of the Drake episode enough time to talk. Earn and Darius have developed a friendship or kinship. Earn going from seeing Darius as unreliable to relying on him to keep Van occupied. Probably noting Darius always finding adventures and his growth from the previous seasons. Also, Socks I feel is a reflection of Darius's form of chaos. Darius, mentions we may find your phone if we follow the map. Also, notice how socks isn't really there for paperboi, but has attached himself to Darius and the sense of chaotic adventure he was expecting from the crew. I believe he took it without a purpose. In hopes to wonder around following Darius's map just to be doing something. I believe Socks went as far to create a murder mystery like atmosphere to fulfill Darius plan to explore the map. In failing to excite the adventure socks throws the phone away seeing that no one was up to cause chaos or mayhem as they did in the previous episode. With the crew seemingly defeated by the lost of phone socks skipped off satisfied with his own brand of chaos.

Unless that epi of them walking home together actually had a scene where her friend actually makes a statement of simulation theory I highly doubt it being true seeing how Atlanta follows a strong structure of subliminal jabs. I hope for both our sakes I’m wrong though lol that observation of Sox is spot on though

@@calebsanchez4861 it was by the pool Nadine says, "... it's a simulation Van. It's all fake." Van says, "You're right. It's all fake there's no Drake. So, don't ruin your high and enjoy yourself." Almost, kind of like the outro to The Weeknd's Dawn FM. Like almost basically, if you are in a simulation you might as well kick back and enjoy the ride... If you can't free yourself.

The show is very interesting because if you watch the first two seasons and digest it as it is you can see the trajectory of where the story was going pre-pandemic...and this season feels like was going to be the final season which would have been season 4...I think the original season 3 was going to focus on the differences between a tour from an industry plant (Clark County) vs an independent rapper and the mentality that puts on artists seeing an industry supported rapper who are getting all these opportunities versus Al and the struggle for him to find his voice when he's really not interested in doing it, but realizes that that's all he can do much like the previous episode...It would also be a reflection of classism something that has been sprinkled around throughout this season which could have been interesting blending in the racial topics as well as classism and the blurred lines between them...Man I love the show that makes me think like this...One of the things that's coming is the further to the top Paper Boi goes the more a Target he becomes to the "Streets" which he brings up in this episode referring to the people that he shot one being the guy from season 1 who got away and then there's the Wing guy who made him the lemon pepper wet...Surprisingly the latter is what I'm worried about...That dude was on some next level creepy stuff he was praising paper boy for being real and shooting people, his last words to him where "don't let me down man, if you let me down I don't know what I'd do" so I don't think that dude's going to like that advertisement in this episode especially since Paper Boi is advertised in the ad as the collaborator...I'm just saying the wing dude looked intense and the vibe I get from him is that if he were to see that ad it would serve as his The Catcher in the Rye and end up pulling up on Paper Boi and John Lennon him...also in that Wing episode in season 1 Montagu is playing in the background at the wing place while they wait for their order, when Paper Boi is at Fernando's he's eating chicken (different brand) but you can see montagu's time lapse footage on the TVs in the house maybe it's trying to get you to connect the two...damn this show lol now my theory is we may see Paper Boi die or get shot because of decisions made by white people...I mean it makes sense they show Tupac (a rapper) getting killed by a white person controlling the "machine" (the industry) which happens to be a white piece of latex that suffocates and is inescapable...It'd be very interesting foreshadowing there's a lot of thematic elements that fit the way they use white in this episode and in that scene with Tupac very similar...The raccoon I mean is a pretty clear reference to the slur and the fact that it's on what looks like a football jersey on top of the Central Park 5 shit it's just layers of racist symbolism...The goat in the ad symbolizes the evil referenced by Fernando at the poker table when he said "the devil is just as powerful as God why do you think there's so much death in the world? Why do you think I have so much money?" so it's some subliminal message that the system is inherently evil, and it's reflected in the ad which is "this is how we (the corporation) see you and how you fit in our narrative"...Which is why the Jewish guy looks orthodox and the black dude looks like a thug it's a way for corporations to keep us in these boxes. Black Panther 2 is the representation of what the black dollar is capable of, the first one did over a billion and the corporation capitalized off of it and now they have the luxury of saying "oh we always knew this was going to happen" without acknowledging the real reason it made so much money, so they get to have their cake and eat it too on paper it looks like they're on the right side of History yet how many years did it take to get a Black Panther film made?

Gucci, moncler, and H&M had some racial toned issues. The activist character with the RED vest, had to be a nod to Deray M(BLUE vest). The questionable black character HAS to be Shaun King based, I’m not sure but..aye?

I personally think the scenes where Darius comes back to the Nigerian restaurant, and when Al goes back to the design studio are flash forwards. Probably not a huge jump, maybe a couple weeks later. Also, another “real cinema” moment was that shot of Al’s Gucci sweater amongst the “fake” activists. Its ironic that he’s wearing the word “fake,” but he’s the only one spitting real game. Then we get a shot of his back which says “not,” showing how he’s not with the fake activist shit. I found it interesting that the very first teaser for season three was a close up of Al in that room with the waiters/assistants facing the wall and some scary music. I was expecting some Illuminati shit in this episode when I saw this room and remembered the teaser.

8:30 nah player, she's deflecting and gaslighting him. She doesn't have a point, that's why she's doing this foolishness. Technically she abandoned her child to "find herself." She wants to get caught stealing, she's on some Winona Rider ish...

@zod43652 жыл бұрын
@@drowninglifeguards this season or Season 1? IF you are referring to Season 1, you're deflecting like Van. Also, still isn't the same. Earn, stayed in contact and provided time and money, when he could. She, didn't get a job and bounced. She is choosing to not contact her Mother or Daughter. Also, stealing random items in another country where the laws are strict, for such behavior.
@Ladytee_is_She2 жыл бұрын
I could be reaching, but what if Van is truly having mental health struggles right now? I mean most woman that “abandon” their children are dealing with some real ish and sometimes the kids are better off not with the mother (although I think using the term abandon is a strong term considering Lotti is in the care of her parents while she’s away.) Clearly they had to find a way to write her into the European arc which is why she’s there but still… a little compassion goes a long way. Sheesh… mothers are judged so harshly

@@Ladytee_is_She 1. Earn isn't stealing and isn't "finding himself" 2. To your point, if you left your child with someone without contact, that's abandonment. Emphasis on zero contact. 3. You are correct, although I thought it was obvious, she's clearly going through something. By that, correct, she shouldn't be around their child. Unfortunately, when you have a child, your life is not your own. Also, my original comment was in regards to her gaslighting Earn and deflecting, to make sure she doesn't have to answer questions, she probably doesn't have an answer for. Or one, he really doesn't want to know. (ie. stolen wig, where she's been, etc).
