I do think this episode highlighted how the theory of the Tendency of The Rate of Profit to Fall could be applied to musicians. Essentially at a certain point an artists/entertainer/influencer will realise the full money potential of their clout and run out of ways to make more money, hence why some tend to resort to exploiting others. One part of the seminar that I did find telling is that the host pointed out that Al could simply choose to retire comfortably so long as he lived a modest life yet he still wants more.

This is a reach but when you said earn dropped a gem at the end of the episode, I think he was talking about the hands in his dreams and how D’Angelo said the hands didn’t necessarily want to do bad things to him. How if he stayed up and fought the hands, there would be a worse outcome. Also, I think it is referencing (although earn doesn’t know it) yodel kids death by oding and how you shouldn’t do that. Another thing I thought of just now is Paperboy not doing what feels good (sticking to his roots and not taking up a YWA) but instead doing things that lets him survive (getting a YWA). This is definitely too far of a reach but maybe when the leader of the YWA meeting was talking about how the YWA will “put food on the table” (otherwise you will starve) he was kinda talking about this

I took Earn's line at the end of the episode to be something like "You gotta do what you gotta do to earn a living, you like doing it or not" meaning he doesn't really like being a manager but it's what life got him to and were he's comfortable enough to earn a living even though it's not his preferred choice EDIT: A different meaning (and most likely the right one) can be the same message the episode was telling with AL's story with those white rappers of keeping your legacy, above everything else

RIP Yodel Kid. But I got a different comparison to Yodel Kid to Juice Wrld. Yodel Kid before getting into Paperboi's car says, "I'm fine, I'm a legend," Juice Wrld's last song before he passed away in the airplane was Legend. The album born to die was indicating that he was eventually going to die while in the lyrics of Juice Wrld's Legend he talks about why we are dying young demon youth. I made a connection of Yodel Kid to Juice Wrld even though it's a connection to the Walmart Yodeling kid Mason Ramsey

Maybe the album is a reference to a couple things. Kodak Black had an album called "Dying to Live" after all, and living a damned life is a pretty common theme of exploration amongst rappers, and, frankly just most of art. I think yodel kid is kind of a shot at the success of "Old Town Road", but less subtle than the explicit talk about YWA. That country music fuses with hip hop in an episode that contains a storyline of D'Angelo being deeply impactful but economically unrealistic (to say the least) seems noteworthy. As you mention, D'Angelo was deeply impactful in the 90s for reimagining and reinvigorating soul music. Perhaps this new generation will be significant for reimagining hip hop as a more white-friendly sound - as Earn says, it only matters what survives.
