Kids all over the world most have had some of their more disappointing moments in life opening these two boxes. But as collectable they are fun and you can spend lots of time pondering who thought these two sets where a good idea.

Loved it. It was useful 1/32 for my Action fantasies. (I loved the afrikakorps for their separate helmets and heads). and poses.

I had the second box (US infantry) in 1/72 scale and I LOVED THEM. They had so much character compared to my Esci figures. The guys erecting the flag were fun because they forced me to imagine them doing other things (i didnt have any use for guys erecting a flag in my war games) and this forced me to think of some very fun scenarios. I wouldnt be happy if these were the only US figures out there but they definitely helped me to have fun in my childhood. Thankyou Atlantic and thankyou Toysoldiernostalgia.

You´re right and I would probably have liked them to as an addition to other sets of US soldiers.

Some odd poses but I feel if these figures were painted to a good standard they would look great.

Very funny, me and my 9 years old son had so much to laugh watching this 😂 cause we are big fans of Good old Airfix material 👍
@ronaldmcdonald83038 ай бұрын
Me too. I used to have an Airfix shop straight up the road from me, but it went bust recently. What I like about soldiers and Airfix is that they are based on real life. I also like doing those soldering electrical kits. If you have a son you may like to introduce him to the army men series by 3DO, their games based on toy soldiers. If your son is only 9 you should get him a rabbit or a guinea pig, a tame rabbit like a female dwarf lop, I had one as a teen and she was beautiful and fluffy!

The crouching guy in the second set might be setting himself up for doing #2 business. The crouch is pretty close IMO. He does need to drop trow and he really needs the required entrenching tool with toilet paper roll attached.

Amusing video. As soon as you put the first set of figures in front of the camera I started laughing, in a nice way mind you. By the way, I'm from New Zealand, I have to say you guys in Europe/UK are well placed when it comes to collecting 'vintage' soldier sets because that was where the centre of production back in the 1970/80's. Also, collecting from NZ is very difficult because of freight cost from the northern hemisphere. The market here is very limited. Keep up the good work!!
@toysoldiernostalgia8 ай бұрын
Thanks man. It`s getting kinda difficult collectin here in Sweden as well. Our currency is tanking against the Euro, pound and dollar. So right now everything is pretty expensive outside Sweden.

Atlantic, the box art was usually much better than the actual figures. That’s why they were disappointing when you opened the box

It must have been so disapointing as a kid to open some of these sets. But I think some are much better then these two.

I am a 60 year old Italian and as a child I played with these toy soldiers that I still collect today. The Atlantic brand was not at the level of accuracy of Airfix but their intrinsic value lies in reminding us children of those years of an Italy where there was work, the industry worked and it was possible to hope for a better future.
@tomsenior74058 ай бұрын
Thank you for this. I have learned so much about Atlantic from you. These figures are especially bizarre and it makes sense to get them out of the way in a "Double Feature". I have no nostalgic connection to Atlantic, so I am finding out what I missed out on, in my childhood. Turns out - Not very much. Nevertheless, I can imagine children who grew up with these toys being excited by every new release. For many children, an army of Green Soldiers facing off against an army of Grey Soldiers was all that was needed.

I literally have thousands of army men, including pink ones too. I went on to an auction site in France and got some antique aluminium soldiers as well. I'm saving up for a really big order from BMC toys in America. I like the fact that I'm not the only adult who enjoys toy soldiers. I have a small collection of police figurines and a security guard too. The reason I got the guard is that some top security are trained by the military and some are permitted to carry guns. Sort of a cop for hire I think they call them in the states! I also have 11 of the games by the late 3DO, Army men!! My sister and her husband went to Denmark a few years ago and they went to a castle where they hade gold soldiers, Romans and Africans. The king there used them to teach his son battle tactics!

This video reminds me again why I always preferred Airfix (and Matchbox) figures over Atlantic. However once again a great review about toy soldier sets from yesteryear. Keep them coming! Not sure about the rifle of the cold war infantry. A generic 7.62 mm x 51 NATO rifle, a mix of the FAL and the G3 maybe.

The American soldier advancing with the rifle reminds me of a figure in 1/72nd scale but bugging me from what faction,possibly a matchbox figure,loved the atlantic far west range and the Egyptian figures but was really disappointed with the ww2 stuff,although still have a box of Russians with the enormous maxims.

I think that figure is pretty close to Airfix US Marines in 1/72. If I ever get rich I will get all the Egypt and Roman sets. A bit expensive for me right now. But like you say those are the best Atlantic produced.

The Atlantic toy soldiers were born and were produced in Treviglio in the province of Bergamo, Italy. The owner was called Ercole Compagnoni. The first 8000 1/72 series boxes had the Italian flag. Boxes were also made for the French market.
