A unique Independence Day celebration!
In 1776 Thomas Jefferson announced to the world a British colony’s plan for independence. For the first time in history, there was to be a nation and a government dedicated to the individual’s rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
In this free online event, ARI chief philosophy officer Dr. Onkar Ghate and ARU instructor and visiting fellow Dr. Nikos Sotirakopoulos will examine how Ayn Rand’s novel “Atlas Shrugged” launched a moral revolution, without which the political revolution of the Founding Fathers would have had to remain incomplete.
This event will take place Tuesday, July 2, at 3 p.m. ET. Dr. Sotirakopoulos will interview Dr. Ghate about his powerful 2007 talk “‘Atlas Shrugged:’ America’s Second Declaration of Independence,” which will then be rebroadcast. Dr. Ghate will reflect on what has changed since he originally delivered his talk and how the fight for independence is even more important today.
They will discuss what this moral revolution has meant for America so far, what it promises for the future, and why “Atlas Shrugged” should be considered America’s second Declaration of Independence-a declaration not of political but of moral independence.

I've been an Objectivist for over forty years. I've read every Ayn Rand book at least once - and several of them three or more times. I never get tired of Rand's clear and uncompromising message.

A cogently delivered and incredibly edifying speech. I saw the original with the question and answer following the talk but it was great to be inspired by this again.

Atlas Shrugged truly changed me. Before I read it I kind of tended towards a more relativistic moral outlook, but not after. It drops some hard truths, and I'm glad I read it. It's a book I'm very thankful exists.

it must suck being a sociopath?

@@tinkletink1403 If sociopathy means recognizing the sovereignty of the individual over their own life and what they can earn in that life, and recognizing that one person's need constitutes no claim upon another person's achievement, then yeah I guess I'm Patrick Bateman.

Little known fact there were multiple drafts of the DOI that were rewritten as the were deemed, "too hostile". Imagine those documents boyz.

Would AS be the SECOND Declaration or the completion of the first, by putting in the missing parts that were needed to make it whole?
