@@WRECKEDGEAR Thanks for the reply. It's funny because I am a firm believer in 'front locker is better'. I have selectable in both axles and will go with front locked first most every time. So I don't know why I wasn't thinking front drive if you are only powering one axle. It will be fun to try.

@WRECKEDGEAR
@WRECKEDGEAR 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your gearing. mine was a 5.1 so the torque of the 4.0 motor and the low gears put extra stress on the rig. I had to beef up my stub shafts and chase a couple welds. drive line ujoints and axle ujoints folded after the atlas. keep that in mind but know that the atlas case is 100% worth it.

Very good job. I have my first atlas in a a v8 TJ crawler, and I’m struggling to know where I’m at all the time, which stick first,etc. I immediately noticed front wheel drive worked great, and generally front wheel drive is more effective than rear anyway. I’m in on that.

We just lightly power break. applying just enough pressure to lock up the rear tires but to where your fronts can still power through. I know a lot of people use that line lock for the rears. or cutting breaks.

@WRECKEDGEAR
@WRECKEDGEAR 3 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all and I have the answer. If you ever get bound up with your rear tires if all for are engaged the front tires will actually push your rear tires into more of a bind. but if you take your front out then it allows your rear to do the work without being forced by the fronts into what your bound up in.

So do you have 2 brake pedals? One for the rear and a separate one for the front?
@WRECKEDGEAR
@WRECKEDGEAR Жыл бұрын
We do not. Some rigs do witch is cool but its more to manipulate and with to many gadgets it can take the fun out of trail wheeling. When we do a front or rear dig, to plan the not moving tire we just hold the breaks enough to stop the non powering axle but allows the other one to do dig through the breaks. I go through a set of break pads about every 2ish years.

can you do 2 h, 4h, fwd, rwd ect on the 2 speed atlas or only the 4sp?
@WRECKEDGEAR
@WRECKEDGEAR Жыл бұрын
Yes you can do all of that with a 2 speed. The 4 speed is just a doubler. You have an extra shift lever that you can double your crawl ratio giving x2 lower gearing.

A little late to the part here but I was wondering if you could tell me what ratio you have, I believe you said 5:1 just wanted to make sure, and also, do you wish you had gone any higher? Thinking about getting one in the near future, but don’t want to over or under gear it. I know it’s also kinda odd but I’m going to keep my 3.73 diff ratio so if that changes what you may recommend. I know I’m asking a lot so thank you if you do respond!!

I have a 5:1 ratio on the atlas and a 102 crawl ratio. I drive a stick sto 5:1 works well with the combination of my drive train. I use Second gear most the time. But it is nice to put her in first and let her eat. It really all depends on your set up. If you call atlas they have great techs and can give you the best option for your platform.

My Atlas doesn't allow front wheel drive and when I called them to ask why they said that their case never allowed it. But your video showed it in action; WTF? I can only shift the front into whatever position the rear is in. Rear in high will allow front high, rear in low will allow front low. The front lever wont move to high or low with the rear in neutral, nor will it allow the front to engage in a different ratio than the rear. The tech guy I talked to said that this is how they're designed. What gives?
@olliehopnoodle4628
@olliehopnoodle4628 2 жыл бұрын
There must have been a miscommunication between you and their tech guy. It won't shift into "high" with the front only. I am pretty sure about this. Try shifting both into low. While moving forward give it a bit of gas and as you let up try shifting the rear into neutral. Do this a few times. I can do this while the rig is in drive but if you find it isn't working, while moving, shift the tranny into neutral and try again. This is just to confirm it actually will go into 4 lo front only. It's the 'easiest' way to do so.
@DonziGT230
@DonziGT230 2 жыл бұрын
@@olliehopnoodle4628 THANK YOU! I thought I had tried to put the front into low with the rear in neutral, but apparently not. I just went out and tried and yes, it works. I guess I got mentally stuck when the front wouldn't go into hight and maybe I hadn't tried low, or because it was parked maybe the gears just wouldn't mesh up. I first tried it in park and could tell that the lever moved part way into low, put it in neutral with the engine idling and it goes in and out of low with the rear in N.
