If you check in the description I have a few equations listed for Brigantine. The 'first sail' equation is the one you'd use in your situation, since you're looking at placing your first weight sail. My equation, though, is for a level 1 ship with 15000 max weight: (1-(x/15000))^0.5 = ((2/3)*((1-(x/16100))^0.5))+((1/3)*(0.6*(1-(x/(16100)))^0.5)) You have 19,000 max weight, though, so we need to change the equation. I'm assuming you're considering a large common weight sail, which would add 1100 in weight capacity. So what we need to do is replace 15000 with 19000, and replace 16100 with 20100 (your current max of 19000 + 1100 from the sail). The equation adjusted for your situation looks like this: (1-(x/19000))^0.5 = ((2/3)*((1-(x/20100))^0.5))+((1/3)*(0.6*(1-(x/(20100)))^0.5)) Now rather than solving this by hand, I can just go to www.wolframalpha.com/ and copy-paste that equation into the website. The website gives us a lot of results, but if we scroll down we see it gives us a "Solution": x = 16306.8 If your Brig regularly weight above that much, you should get a weight sail. If it's below that weight, stick with speed sails.

I think he was talking about after adding a Large Weight Sail then adding more weight and surpassing that percentage line again, then adding another Large Weight Sail etc. until you have all 6 Large Weight Sails and what that would look like in terms of where the line would be each time. I do not believe it is a static 75% like orome59 says. I believe its skewed each time based on the new weight maximum for where your weight current would need to be to justify switching from speed to weight sail. Also I have a question about the Weight Sail in general about whether or not the design of the sail was also considered for how it performs. Weight Sails and Handling sails seem to have the same sway movement. Understandably, the Weight Sail rotates the same as the Speed Sail so it cannot benefit more from improved angle. However, would the weight sail catch more wind at the extreme angle than a Speed Sail at the same extreme angle? Or does this simply not exist? Also are weight sails easier to handle (faster to change direction, etc.) than speed sails at the same weight equalizer or are they exactly the same in performance? Just food for thought.

One other thing. I noticed that there is a higher weight equalizer for 4L Speed/2L Handle vs 6LSpeed when you change 1L Speed to 1L Weight. Is this because the speed maximum is lower (thus slower) using the Handling Sails? It's really interesting that you can get more weight in on the ship before needing a Weight Sail to keep its speed from decreasing when you use Handling Sails in place of Speed Sails.

@@BLUFGaming Lots of math, to bad you forgot to look at the various levels of blueprints and the extra stats they can add + int builds ect..ect for another video now that you know? ex: weight sail bp's can sometimes come with "max sail weight +XXX%(100.000%-300.000% before int iirc)" and other bonus types.

For what its worth, you can get rid of the help text over at the top left of your screen by pressing Esc>options>Advanced settings abd finally itll be on the right hand column, it will be the 9th from the bottom that says "show tutorial hint text" and you can click it to toggle it off. I like how you did the math in the top left so i figured id throw you a hint so its easier to see in future videos, thanks for the great content!

The only problem is after I input my weight and projected weight into the calculator, a SINGLE weight sail only become a viable option on a galleon when I have hit roughly 89% of total weight capacity which renders all weight sails completely useless. Unless you want to run a ship at basically 90% weight all the time, weight sails in this case would be garbage. Is that true BLUF?

Ok, going to make this simple. I want to upgrade to a Brig from a Schooner, without sacrificing 40% speed. I was told that the Brig automatically runs 40% slower than a Schooner, both full up with speed sails and dry weight. Is it even possible to get them in the same neighborhood with a different configuration on the Brig? I regularly run the Schooner at 60% weight vs. capacity and I am sick of dumping cargo or bumping into the furniture to keep the speed up. I guess what I am asking is, at what percentage of weight to capacity does the Schooner have to reach before an underweight Brig is just as fast?

Hey, a good question that has been floating around the forums, and there doesn't seem to be any final consensus. My testing was...inconclusive. Does the survival skills for increased hand-gathering apply to tools, like picks/sickles/axes, or only for hand gathering fiber or rocks on the beach? Would love to see a video on this.

Great vid, can you do one on the captaining tree we were wondering how the cheaper crew, repair, and sink rate work and if they stack with others in the company or apply to the accommodations. I have gotten to the tier 2 for cheaper crew but didn't notice a difference before or after applying the points. we have also tried logging out and swapping zones but the pay rate was still the same.

I'm actually working on it right now. Trying to do a little research so I can include number of levels put into weight on the ship. And also want to add in a way of inputting two weights (empty and full) for when u take a trip and bring back stuff so your weight is higher. I'll post a link here when it's somewhat operational and then I'll iterate on it.

I'm not sure why you're setting up your equations the way they are, it would be much more useful to substitute the left equation with the targeted speed. At the moment your equations are set up to find when speed sail configurations will sail at similar speeds to the weighted+speed sail configurations under specific loads. Which unfortunately does not equate to a good sailing speed.

So with your speed equation, Sail Speed = (1-Load/CarryWeight)^.5 . At the moment you have Sail speed with a variable Load set equal to the sail speed of different sail configurations with the same Load variable. What you solved here is at what Load that the sail speeds converge. For example, with your Schooner Large equation, what you've solved for there is that with a Load of 8259.3 kg a Large+small speed sail configuration will travel equally to the Large weight + small speed sail configuration of a snail pace of ~28.7% max sail speed. This is far from an ideal speed, and what this tells me is that weight sails are busted since by the time the speed converges the weight is unwieldy. What would be more useful is set the Sail Speed to a predetermined sail speed and find out what load they can carry at those speeds with those configurations. Then modify the ship to carry those weights (e.g. a warship with a specific armament and operation Load).

@@Xanndal Yes, you could do that. The speed set, of course, would have to be a percentage of the maximum theoretical speed that ship type could achieve if it weighed zero. If a person was targeting a specific speed and was willing or able to adjust their ship weight, that would be the method to use. I get lots of questions about when someone should use weight sails instead of speed sails. My equation answers when the switch is worthwhile; or, rather, what the fastest sail configuration is for a given weight.
