Yeah, corruption and dictatorships are inevitable towards a transitioning from difficult status to a more solidified identity. I feel like this is a consistent pattern on a lot of 3rd world countries that have just escaped colonialism. I believe the future is bright for humanity. African people will learn to become competitive against the western influence and thus create a formidable identity for themselves that they can defend. It gives them more possibility of becoming a superpower in the future. There still is hope, I believe. The sphere of influence of the western world is continuously decaying no matter how much lies and manipulations the media and governments does. We are now soon transitioning towards a more multipolar world where no country can confidently exert their influence fully to others, because everybody now has equal share of influencing each other.

East African leaders have huge egos and not many permit or tolerate any freedom of speech. Magufuli & his CCM stole the Tanzanian elections and have decimated the opposition, Uganda's Museveni stole the elections and intimidated Bobbi Wine. I lived in Tanzania and the East African block was meant to meet to discuss the trade deals. Uganda and Burundi's leaders were bitching at each other and neither attended putting their own petty personalities before their people or Africa's welfare. East African leaders are immature megalomaniacs so I doubt whether the EAF would ever be a reality. The block is currently taking severe strain after Magufuli prayed covid out of Tanzania and denied his people the vaccine, this gross human-rights violation will not only affect East Africa but the entire continent. It's not going to happen, look at whats happening in Ethiopia with Tigray?

As a semi informed and interested Tanzanian I can very confidently predict that the EAF will only remain on paper for a longer period of time if current trends proceed. Firstly the union was envisaged to mimic more the EU rather than the US and a political federation would be an optional package after successful implementation of other protocols such as FTA, Common Market and Common Currency. Secondly, democracy is backsliding at an alarming rate (if it existed at all in the region) coinciding with the prevalence of strong-man quasi and full on dictators a la Kagame, Mugabe, Kiir, Nkurunzinza and even (gasp!) JPM. I don't see these guys relinquishing their fiefs any time soon. Thirdly; Xenophobic trends are growing in the region notably with Tanzania tightening its policy against movement of labour/people into TZ as Kenya simultaneously tightens its borders in reaction to acts of terrorism from Al Shabab, as well as Rwanda's China-esque Obsession with population surveillance and control (understandable after the horrors of 1994, but creepy nonetheless). Lastly, the status quo in the region benefits those in power so much that it is unlikely they will want to change it for the sake of absurd ideas such as socio-economic development and all that pie in the sky ideals, particularly since such an undertaking will undoubtedly require a herculean level of competence in diplomacy, negotiations, strategic planning and implementation, qualities surprisingly rare amoung EAC leaders, ministers, diplomats and other government officials. But all in all great video, was lovely for TZ and my fellow East Africans getting a shout out on YT as Geography Now! takes its sweet time getting here.

True though some of the current problems are temporarily and will disappear in the short term such as terrorist Alshabab. They are a threat but not significant and active the borders between Somalia and Kenya. They will be eliminated once Somalia resolves its problem (which is making a progress). However, the biggest challenge will be governance and having a corruption free democratic institutions. There is along way to go on these areas.

@@gondor532 I am not saying that they (you) are the same nation. The facts are that part of Croats are talking in language, that is more similar to Serbian than to theirs countrymen. Montenegrin is in fact pure Serbian. There's nothing wrong with it! But don't get crazy about that. Leaving that aside, that nations has no such level of mutual intelligibility in their native languages. They need to use lingua franca like English or Swahili to communicate freely. That was not the case with Yugoslavia. You are saying that they were just separate people thorough all of history - yes, but so people of future EAF. British colonial rule is just like occupation - does not really count in my opinion. East African leaders have huge egos and not many permit or tolerate any freedom of speech. Magufuli & his CCM stole the Tanzanian elections and have decimated the opposition, Uganda's Museveni rigged the elections and intimidated Bobbi Wine. Kenyatta has blood on his hands and public funds in his pocket. I lived in Kenya & Tanzania and the East African block was meant to meet to discuss the trade deals. @@wvereijssen9449 I don't think so, I'll check rn: Although Mexico's war of independence pushed out Spain in 1821, Texas did not remain a Mexican possession for long. It became its own country, called the Republic of Texas, from 1836 until it agreed to join the United States in 1845. You're right, it was, they still joined the USA pretty quickly, 9 years. South Sudan has existed since 2011, so 8 years, I imagine this East African Federation it would take a few years to create. The EAF should form a republic like the US. That way if one of the bigger countries like Kenya or Tanzania start doing dumb things or put a bunch of extra votes in their country to try to rig a national election those inflated numbers don't affect the election because it only matters which way the "states" go as a whole.
